Anyone know the sales of the iPad mini? Because if they can keep that device then I'm sure there are plenty enough sales to justify the iPhone mini.

Are most of the market hung up on ship dates? If I am looking at getting a new iPhone (and I mean me specifically, not just some made-up "me"), I would figure out what one I wanted and wait for it to become available, not the other way around. Heck, I even knew I wanted to get a 13 mini when it launched and I waited until the new year. And I do believe that's how most buyers are.
Guess it depends on the person. I always do pickup because I don't want to deal with the issues that come with a delivery. But the issue this year is I didn't have the money until after launch, and the in store stock was way worse than other years.

Yeah well people are stupid, they think bigger is better and smaller is cheaper.

It’s the society we live in. Look at everyone taking out house sized loans just to get the biggest vehicle they can, status symbols etc.

I hate the society we live in. Lol

I remember the Reddit posts with $100K pickup truck brags. I'm just thinking enjoy your mortgage for a vehicle

appreciate this balanced sentiment. i clearly see the point and value of large screen phones for people. whats disappointing is how many large screen phone fans seem to celebrate the fact that people who prefer smaller phones are increasingly left without any options because they are supposedly too small of a group to matter. it just seems needlessly mean spirited.

i have a 13 pro for battery and 120hz, otherwise i'd definitely have preferred a mini. i often wonder how many other people were in a similar boat to me. i just can't get past the idea that there has to be some sort of better compromise possible between decent battery life and the absolute brick of a phone that is the 13 pro. sigh.
I see it way more from the small phone people saying "We don't need big phones!" But from either side I agree, as long as you get the size phone you want, why do you care what the other choices are. I'd rather have Mini to steal the show so Pros aren't impossible to find. In store Pro stock is way worse than other years.

Sadly for me I will be holding on to mini for as long as possible and switch to another similar sized device when it comes to market even if it’s Android. Size trade off is a huge for me. The reason I switched to iOS was mini and it will be reason for me to switch back to Android as my main device. :)
what was your android phone before you switched to the iPhone mini?

I don’t think of the mini as small. Heck it had the same screen size as the old plus models. The mini was the right size for most of it had been called the 12. Could have gone 12, 12 plus, and 12 max.
I love my iPad mini and it’s amazing how often people say how nice it appears, especially with cellular and they think about getting one as a second iPad

For me the problem with the iPhone mini is I really want a folding screen phone. A friend has that Samsung, that folding design just seems right for a phone. Both pocketable and somewhat protected when folded yet opens up to a large enough screen you can actually read. One good thing about a large phone is I refuse to carry it everywhere anymore kind of like the old days where the phone was attached to the wall.

I respect anyone who likes the Mini. It’s such a nice little phone, in my opinion, I could even say arguably the most aesthetically pleasing. I used to be a small phone fan myself, but a couple things happened:

I got a little older. I can’t quite read the screen as well as I used to.

I use my phone differently compared to 2012. I feel like Apps are optimized for modern screens now, where the Mini is an afterthought.

That being said, I use a 14 Pro now. I previously used a 11 Pro Max. I find the Pro to be quite compact and easy to use while having enough screen real estate for it not to feel like too significant of a trade off.
Apps behave pretty much the same on an iPhone Mini as they do on a iPhone Pro Max.

That's also pretty terrible because the larger screen on the Pro Max doesn't really get you anything except a larger screen. It doesn't give you a bigger grid of apps or more visible controls or anything like that. For text content there's some difference mainly because the wider screen fits more characters horizontally so you see more lines on screen.

The 14 Pro is not huge or anything so it's fine for most users. I'm just not convinced it's worth almost twice the price of the Mini models. Meanwhile the iPhone 14 seems like it exists mainly as a "well, I could pay more for the Pro and get a better phone" option.

Sure you get nicer cameras, nicer screen, ProMotion, larger battery etc on the Pro lineup but for me all that is "nice to haves" rather than improving the overall experience. I went from an iPhone XS to 12 Mini and apart from the size it was pretty much the same thing for better or worse. For me the physically smaller size of the iPhone Mini series is just nice to use when I am out and about and using it one handed occurs more often. At home I typically use e.g a laptop or desktop computer with a proper big screen and proper physical input devices so I don't need my smartphone to do everything in my life.

You can make all the changes to satisfy your needs but you don’t.

I'm sure the Apple cleaning cloth is selling much less than the mini, yet Apple keeps selling it, but that doesn't mean anything.😁

I almost did it last year and now wish I had. Can still get a 256 13 mini for $0/month with a trade in to t mobile though.

yeah it’s a minor upgrade but you get A15, slightly better camera, slightly smaller notch, and (best of all) better battery life and less overheating. All in all, should be worth it, given that apple doesn’t appear to plan to release any more phones in sizes I find comfortable.
Wasn’t the 12 mini known for green OLED tint issues ?

Based on the most recent display panel order data provided by Ross Young, it's clear this was the right move for Apple and for customers.

  • iPhone 13 mini received about 5 million units. The selling price is $729.
  • iPhone 14 Plus is getting 20 million panels. The selling price is $929.

Which one generates more revenue? The data suggests customers are buying iPhone 14 at the same rate as iPhone 13 last year, but the mix has shifted significantly to iPhone 14 Plus.

What LMAO!!!??

Are you reading that chart correctly or am I?
My interpretation is the mini sold 35 million units, the Pro 50 million, Pro Max 75/77 million units.

What's notable ignored is the per device profit margin! Also the 14 already had production shifted from it to the Pro's in less than 10 days!

If my interpretation is incorrect and the 13 mini was 5 million units then I point ONLY to Apple to blame for that. Absolutely no marketing/advertising of ANY kind, and add to that hiding the 13 mini online behind selecting the 13 was idiotic. Who's to blame for this?! Why was this done and allowed?

Kaiann Drance, VP iPhone Product Marketing
Vitor Silva, iPhone Product Manager, Worldwide Product Marketing at Apple

Personally BOTH failed at their jobs regarding the iPhone 12/13 mini as neither had a chance due to BOTH never making any 'marketing' push at all beyond the launch event. Terrible at their jobs!

By Comparison the iPhone 5C got significant marketing! So don't tell me these units failed due to demand ... this article differs:

The 5.4-inch iPhone "mini" size was originally introduced in 2020 with the debut of the iPhone 12 mini, which was greeted with much fanfare for its compact size. The device was followed by last year's iPhone 13 mini, a largely incremental update. Apple still sells both models on its main store page, but despite the smaller devices' clear popularity among enthusiasts, Apple has deemed the form factor to be not popular enough to make a new iteration for the third year running.

It remains to be seen whether Apple will decide to continue offering brand new iPhone mini models after it launches its next-generation flagship iPhone 14 series, and given its successor model has yet to be listed in Apple's refurb store, the returning availability of refurbished iPhone 12 mini units is likely to be noteworthy for consumers who favor the smaller size.

Apple began selling certified refurbished ‌iPhone 12 mini‌ devices in July of this year – a full 21 months after they were originally launched – but demand has made them hard to get hold of for the last several weeks after news of their imminent demise in Apple's upcoming new flagship range.

Hmmm.
