Do you always sleep alone?
Sleeping with watch on your wrist is going to end up scratching your loved ones' faces.

Also fitness trackers do that, not all smart watches.
I would guess that most normal people don't wear their watch to sleep, smart or not.

My Garmin Fenix 3 is on my left wrist, my partner's Vivofit is on her right wrist. So far we've managed without any accusations of marital abuse. It is quite possible that because most of my friends are sport minded my view is skewed by experience, but yes most of my friends wear their relevant smart watches / fitness trackers to bed. Except those of course who own an Apple watch.

Actually there is a smart watch that satisfies me quite well. It's listed in my signature.

Great. I'm sure it has 7 days battery life and looks fantastic /sarcasm

Now maybe you can comment in another thread about another item you're not interested in.

Oh no!? I just heard a rumor the apple watch 3 will be out just after the 2 and they are researching the 4 meanwhile I'm enjoying the 1 now and will just upgrade when I feel like it... Just like I'm enjoying my 2013 New Mac Pro which still has no gen 2 and previously enjoyed gen 1 of most Apple devices since 2001... iMac G4, G5, 2006 Mac Pro 1, iPad 1, iPhone 1, MacBook Air 1, iPod nano 1, iPod shuffle 1... Sometimes I upgrade to the 2 and sometimes I wait a few more generations but I use and enjoy in the present not the future

well, if decent battery is all you're arguing for, it DOES have a decent battery. the iPhone 5S and 5C iterations were low for apple standards, but for regular standards was more than 'decent', it helped retain millions of apple customers and helped millions of people looking to buy a great smartphone.

if you're paying attention to your settings (auto brightness off, background app refresh 'curation', wifi location feature off, etc), you shouldn't be having a problem unless you're a power user. which i only find acceptable if its for work. if it's personal use, get off your phone! i kid, i kid.. but imo, too many people throw up their hands and blame apple for the lemon they got (and should simply return), or they use their phone too much. in which case, buy another phone that suits your power needs i suppose.

i have toggled every single feature that i can turn off to save battery life, and i still have to charge it 2 times a day (late afternoon and before going bed), so you can consider me a power user if you want.

Sports and sleep tracking seem rather unrelated.

Anyway good luck waiting for apple to come up with a sleep tracking device that lasts many days without a charge.
I'm sure they're just around the corner making that perfect 7 day sleep tracking watch just for you /sarcasm.

The things that would get me interested in a watch are:

  • Better biometric sensors
  • A seamless, error free Siri
  • More processing power
  • Smaller bezels
Looks like it might be the third generation before I contemplate buying.

..I have to change the battery in my watch every five years or so. I only take it off to have a bath, and that's not often because I normally shower. I'll accept one week on the AW

ahh, the ol 'regular watch' battery versus smartphone watch battery argument. so, you want the apple watch from the future then? show us a smartwatch of AW caliber whose charge lasts a week. even an iPhone 3g with the i6 battery wouldn't last that long unless you merely left it on standby.

Lol good luck with that.

I just won't buy one until they improve the battery life, no luck involved.

The iPhone was a revelation, remember trying to use WAP? Nightmare. AW offers nothing at this point to the vast majority of people and most of the reviews out there both professional and personal agree with me.

If you want me to buy a product that only rates a 'meh' then you better not inconvenience me by having to charge it every night. It's going to be fascinating to see the published sales results after the early adopters have been phased out, I'm suspecting they won't be that stellar. Apple has a chance to fix these 'meh' and battery problems over the next few iterations and if they succeed then it will take off.

I'm so glad you put "/sarcasm" at the end of your post, as you are most likely aware we know nothing of sarcasm in Britain so it is most useful when someone points it out so obviously so we can truly appreciate it :D

Do you partake in any sport btw? A good nights sleep (tinnitus permitting) makes the difference... e.g. a PB on my 10k run or smashing my swim interval training target.

It's the 2030 apple watch with VR sex companion Siri (or Sam) built in.

Actually, they would care. Because the handful of ultra-wealthy people I know didn't get wealthy by buying $10k Apple watches, nor would they waste their money on such a useless vanity item. The people who did buy it aren't as rich as you think they are, and will probably be quite pissed off at how short of lifespan Apple Watch will have.
NO! This is a unique luxury item. People who bought this are not the same people who buy and respect luxury watchmakers.

Delve in deeper, this is bought primarily in Asia and the mid-East - in most cases to simply show off to the small circle of their friends. There is no "appreciation" of this watch - and it will be worth $3k max next year.

I'm almost certain sales of Edition Watch 2 will be WAY down next year. The novelty would have worn off.

I'm also certain that Edition watch sales have fallen off the cliff now
. That's why Apple will try tempt the "middle ground" ie. $1000-$5000

It does have a seven day battery life, and I'm not vain.

The Apple watch does have features I'm interested in, but none of them are worth such a massive compromise in battery life.

I think this is a mistake. What about those people who spent $10K on the first generation Apple Watch? They get obsolete just like that? Apple Watch 2 should come out in 2018. People are still finding about its existence. At the end, it's just a watch, not a smartphone which we need to be buying every now and then.
I think you might want to look up the definition of obsolete.

Well I should've guessed that someone with such class and style would have no problem recognizing sarcasm.
My apologies.

I have a personal trainer who gives me my workout regimen.
Last time I checked, there are a few forms of sporting activities which don't involve sleep tracking.

sounds like you were just born too early ;) this is a smartwatch/smartphone in-the-infancy-stages 'problem', not an Apple problem. if there's an android phone that lasts twice as long, i'd buy it if i were you with your needs. as long as the ecosystem/OS doesn't bug you to no end, as it does with me personally.

Show me the killer feature of the high caliber AW that makes me want to put up with the inconvenience of charging it every night (only when it's brand new BTW, when old not even that)?

OMG! I can't believe you just called me 'old'. How embarrassing.

Oh so you were talking about Pebble.
Isn't there a pebble forum you can visit?
Maybe not enough activity because it's a niche product eh?
Last time I checked pebble is desperately trying to raise money, so it will be interesting if your super awesome watch maker even survived beyond 2016.

There is a reason why Pebble never became a mainstream product but I guess you will never understand.

Yeah, there is that middle eastern billionaire who bought two gold models to put on his dogs front paws. I'm sure most of us have seen that picture.

And $10,000 is cheap for a high end gold watch. The average price is around $25,000.

BUT its not a high-end watch. It's internals are worth $400 bucks! and the casing is made of gold - that's it.

I've got a 42mm Sport and the idea of a camera doesn't really excite me. The second gen watch would need to run faster or have better battery life for me to feel like a sucker. Not that I've found battery life to be an issue.
