Hi :) I am going to buy my Apple Watch in the LTE Aluminum version to perform sport and monitor activity. Is there a good time to buy the Series 4 or wait for the premiere of the new model, which is in three months?

I was just logging in to my account to post the exact same question. I can't make up my mind whether to buy now or wait for the series 5. Have there been any rumours about new features for the Series 5?

I moved to a new house last March and, unfortunately, my Series 3 was lost during the move. I considered buying a Series 4 to replace it, but decided to wait for the Series 5 at this point. I'm surprised that there haven't been any rumors about it.

Maybe they aren’t planning one ? But tbh I would wait for the series 5 anyways to buy a series 4 on sale. Unless you can get one for under $400 now

Yeah, that is what is making me question about getting the series 4 now as there just doesn't seem to be any info or leaks about series 5!

I got a series 4 a week ago. I would go for it there have been no concrete rumours about a series 5.

There usually isn’t a lot of rumors about the Apple Watch, they’re very minimal. Usually if any leaks surface, it’s towards the end of August, about two weeks before the keynote. Apple can be very unpredictable, so I’m not entirely convinced a Series 5 will debut in the fall, even though that has been the trend with past generation Apple Watches.

I was about to say the same thing. There typically aren’t many Watch leaks. I think that the number of watches produced is much lower than the phone, which might make it easier to contain production leaks??

That and also usually it’s only one main manufacture that produces the Apple Watch, which is known as Quanta, which doesn’t nearly have the amount of leaks that Foxconn does with the iPhone.

At this point I would wait if I didn’t need one right now. Series 5 is not very far away.

I am leaning towards waiting, but it feels like there were more leaks about series 4 before it launched, where as series 5 just seems to quiet!

I was going to wait, but Target was selling the S4 cellular for $100 cheaper than Apple last week. Best price ever.

The S4 was such a major jump forward that a) a fall 2019 S5 would probably be only a relatively minor upgrade and b) the S5 wouldn‘t have to arrive so soon anyway to revive the Watch‘s appeal as the S4 is still way ahead of any and all competition.

I have an S3 LTE Sport that I bought pretty much when they first came out. I was going to wait for the S5, but had, shall we say, a minor health scare last week. Fortunately turned out to be nothing. So at my wife's insistence, because of the ECG function, I just bought an S4 Sport (non-LTE). Managed to find it on sale at Best Buy, plus I had a $20 Best Buy coupon. Ended up paying $349 for the 44mm model.

And if in 6 months the S5 is so good that I can't live without it, I'm not out a boatload of cash.

I think I'll be ok without the LTE functionality. I so rarely used it anyway. Sounds like it'll be more useful with WatchOS 6 than previously, but these days I virtually always have my phone with me anyway, or am at work with full wifi coverage.

Not really. The only leaks the Series 4 had was about two weeks before the actual keynote, otherwise there wasn’t really that many major rumors aside from that. The same thing will likely apply to the Series 5 if it launches during the fall. But then again, there’s nothing guaranteed that a Series 5 will launch this fall either.

I'd wait. If you're interested in S4 there might be some good discounts right before launch. This way you'll have choices. That being said, I couldn't live without my Watch so I'd probably not be able to hold off.

I think the S5 is really just going to be a spec bump this year. Probably a little faster processor and maybe, just maybe, a little better battery life. The S4 was quite an improvement over the previous generations, I'm not expecting this next one to make the same big leap as the S4 did last year. IMO, the S4 was the highlight of last year's keynote.

if you want it, and is on sale get the S4

I bought last year on June an aluminium S3 because it was on sale, I knew that series 4 will go out on Sept, but sold my S1, because I felt it slow sometimes.

A week ago I've got a Silver Series 4 SS (which includes LTE & milanese band) on sale @ Target (50% off), the price was something like $424 + tax, and sold my S3 for $250...

At the end I paid for the S4 like $250 (including Apple Care, the money from the S3 and taxes).

How in the world did you get 50% off?

I don't understand how anyone could buy one of these iWatches. Compared to a Casio watch, these iWatches are fluff. Who wants to plug their watch in every day, day in and day out in order to run it? You ONLY get 18 hours of use! I remember when I had to wind my watch and if I forgot, it lost time. Then I got a kinetic watch that was self winding and I never lost time again, I was so happy with it.

Well, now maybe having the iWatch stop won't be such a drag, unless you do foreign travel or go in areas without internet access. You only have to charge it 1.5 hours a day. Honestly I wouldn't consider buying a watch like this for that has anything less than a full week of battery time. Really innovations should give you something equivalent to the previous models, but add on more features. Daily charging is a nuisance. I don't need to spend hundreds of dollars for a nuisance, no matter how "flashy". I got a Fitbit Charge 3 for my husband, who is rehabilitating following a terrible assault in a public park. I compromised because of the activity monitor which he needs. The Charge 3 however at least keeps a charge for a week. It also has some notifications and is water proof enough to swim with. It also costs about 1/3 of a new iWatch.
