If I owned a watch, I'd probably need a new band now and then.

This week's stock dividend will just go straight into the bank. Sorry, Tim. Apple used to get lots of money from me. Now there's nothing for me to buy, so I get lots of money from Apple.

I wonder how many bands they sell given that you can buy third party ones at a fraction of the price and there is no technology there, is just a band.
I bought 3 bands from Amazon spending less money than the price of a single original band and they're good.

I'll start by saying I also buy my AW bands on Amazon for much less. That said, There is some technology in the bands, if nothing but aimed at overall quality. The Apple sports band is much better than anything I've found on Amazon as is the link bracket band. But definitely not a price factor of 10 better. :D

As I sit here, trying to render of complex 3D scene, calculating how many hours and days it will take on out of date hardware, I am glad to know Apple is concentrating on this.

Apple as usual has its priorities straight.

I never understood why they make such a limited supply , I get they are seasonal but after one month already out of stock?? Maybe triple the numbers to at least get through the summer.

It very well may be intentional to create artificial scarcity.

Ah, what a coincidence, me too! It’s awesome!

That's the one I have, as well. It's an excellent band. Easy to get on and off my wrist, and it's easy to cinch up for a perfect fit.

Looks great, too.

I wondered if the "spring collection" was also being sold below the equator, in Australia for example where it is actually autumn.

For anyone else curious, the answer is yes. "Spring" bands are currently on sale in autumn in Australia. So odd of Apple to not take local seasons into account.

Yeah, because the same people that are designing the mac pro and such are also designing watch bands.

RIGHT!!??? They can make millions of iPhones in a quarter but not some watch bands??? Its totally artificial.....and stupid. I get if they sell out in a few months but not a few weeks. It's ridiculous. Especially around the holidays.

I just get my bands from eBay. A teeny weeny fraction of the cost and the quality is sublime The nylon bands are £3 with postage and I defy anyone to tell the difference. £6 for the leather magnetic loop. £1 for the silicone sports strap and £2 for the Nike lookalike ones.

And for the brave at heart there is the "Wild East" of Ali Express which is even cheaper but that is a gamble for you to decide on! Sometimes I am brave and get lucky... sometimes you get trash or worse, nothing.

Saying that though.... I would like a nice and cheap but proper quality leather strap with black attachments or space grey if anyone has any tips or suggestions for a UK buyer that would be appreciated. Apple ones are absolutely outrageous in price.

Who said that? It's blatantly obvious that they're either not putting the proper resources towards developing Macs or they just don't care about the Mac anymore. Just because the people developing bands aren't the same as the ones working on the Mac doesn't mean that Apple shouldn't put more emphasis on the Mac.

It was implied in what I quoted "I am glad to know Apple is concentrating on this." and "Apple as usual has its priorities straight." I don't understand why every time there is an article about watch bands people bring up the mac. The two are not related in the slightest. Bottom line, the bands cost Apple next to nothing to make are the margins are huge. They are going to continue to come out with new ones. No need for people to get hot and bothered by it.

So true, the number of people who get triggered by watch band posts amazes me. Apple makes extremely high quality bands all across the board, and it's nice to have a change of pace once in a while. People here act like they're taking engineers off of iOS to design and produce watch bands.

Of the two products, which has been the more newsworthy and successful for Apple? The watchbands. Meanwhile, Apple has fumbled (vulnerable keyboards, batteries, Siri...) or stagnated in its core competency. What were once purposeful and reliable products are resembling toys and jewelry.

The parts you quoted have nothing to do with your reply. You said, "Yeah, because the same people that are designing the mac pro and such are also designing watch bands."

One topic — who designs what. No, it's not the same people designing the watch bands and the Mac. I don't think anyone actually thinks this.
Other topic — what are Apple's priorities. Yes, many people feel that the fact that they release more watch band updates than Mac updates suggests that Apple doesn't have its priorities straight.

They're two different things and it's frustrating when people act as if the two are the same.

Do people actually collect these things? Like, "Gee, wiz! I wish I had bought that version of the yellow sport band before it went to complete my yellow collection of watch bands!"...

Nothing but white looks good with my ceramic watch.

Really couldn't give a Monkey's - until Apple recognise that not everyone has a skeletal wrist and starts manufacturing adult-sized bands for the smaller watch size.

No it's not. Watchbands are simply an accessory that I suspect Apple is making a decent amount of money. Ahrendts is doing a fantastic job.
Oh, that is so baiting the audience. Someone out there with time to spare, please work out the profits made per year from band sales and work out what that is as a percentage of Ah(hor)redous' average annual compensation package.

Just like in many large companies, the success of the two products are barely related. Good on the people that Apple hired to assist with Watch accessories at being so good at their jobs. For all the things Apple has "fumbled" on, they have also been extremely successful at others (Watch Series 3, Airpods, iPhone X, etc).

I’d really like to get one of the pride bands. But I don’t want to have to pay inflated eBay prices.

As long as all these bands will fit the new watch, I'll buy the new watch. If they do not fit, I guess I'm holding out.

I'm guessing they will fit, though. Maybe not the generation AFTER this next one, but the band system is good, so why change it? I think they do brisk band sales.

Drama queens. :D

The pride ones sold like crazy last year. I have one, but I still wear it some. I had the original one, that I bought off eBay (the one that was for employees only), but I felt bad hanging on to it, so I sold it for double what I paid for it. Score!

You can buy a 32mm link band and add as many links as you want.

Just go to Amazon, can find a bunch there.

Just have to point this out. Although true you can’t find third party bands on Amazon and eBay, they are not _nearly_ the quality and construction of Apples OEM bands. Apples bands are made with much more premium materials, last longer and certainly don’t feel as cheap. Even though third party bands may resemble Apples bands, they certainly are not even close to being in the same realm of the overall quality.

Of course they release more watch band updates. They find a few colors they like and they are finished. Since the watch was first introduced they have only made 3 new types of bands: woven nylon, sport loop, and the Nike band.
