I saw one in person. I had high hopes but was extremely disappointed.

I was the same. Way to big for my wrist. And it felt way to light. It's one thing for a phone or tablet to be light as you're holding that in your hand but a watch should have some heft to it imo. I wonder if the Watch Sport will be as light as the Almost 360.

Me too. I was literally shocked. It just looks really rough as if they skipped the last steps in manufacturing (polishing, etc.) It almost looks handmade and not in a good way. It has a prototype appeal

Not only that but the leather strap felt really cheap. I'm sure the metal one is better, but the casing itself also felt cheap. Plus I couldn't figure out how to use it.

Exactly, the lightness gave it a very cheap feel.

The gold Edition Watch is essential to complete the look.

That's what makes the difference between "got this suit at an expensive designer boutique" and "found this suit while clearing out Grandpa's wardrobe"

Interesting you'd say that because that suit looks like some that were in my grandfather's closet. Maybe it worked in 1925. But regardless it's hipster today, and I'm thinking an 18K gold watch is anti-hipster.

Yeah it has some kind of toy appeal. That screen is gorgeous though.

Not for me

I am afraid for me, the Apple watch has all the allure of a 1970's Sinclair LED digital watch. First time for a long time, that an Apple product leaves me completely cold. I do have one electronic watch, a Breitling Aerospace Titanium (analogue hands plus LCD display panels) but this only needs its battery changing every five years and not a recharge every night.

Depends on the watch design. A diving or racing watch, yes, it should have bulk and heft. A dress watch (not as much in fashion these days, I admit) should be very thin and light. A running watch should also be light, but not necessarily thin.

I think it's elegant and good looking. So far none of smartwatch is even considered nice enough to wear.
I think LG has the best traditional looking smartwatch. It's the LG Watch Urbane. I could easily wear this without feeling geeky. Although it only works with Android, to me, it's the best looking bridge between watch and smartwatch. They even have an LTE version that works independent of the phone (Korea only for now)

I wonder what kind of hack they have installed on the device for it to show the watch face all the time. It's not like those people on all the magazine pictures are doing a particular gesture for it to get activated.

that lg watch isnt nice aswell. The way the leather strap gets pulled down 90° from the body because there is no curvature to the chassis looks terrible imo. looks like the watch is being strangled.

This is getting to be too much.

The Apple computers (I, II series)
Lisa
Mac
Peripherals
Software (including OS)
Portable versions of Mac
Professional versions of Mac
-----
The above are a coherent line of a computer company.
-----
Then, a couple of forays into PDAs (Newton) and a camera, and a retreat from app software (Claris dropped, FileMaker spun off)

Still, coherent line for a computer company.
------
Then, Apple goes from Apple Computer Inc. to Apple Inc., as the iPod, iPhone, and iPad now meant that Apple was now more than a Computer company in the tradional sense. It became a digital device company, and for a while, all the devices really needed a computer home base to be useful, so these had all been computer accessories to one degree or another. Still coherent.
-------
Then, iCloud and other iOS updates made the base computer less central, the Apple Watch and talk of an Apple car are starting to make me wonder if Apple is a computer company AT ALL anymore. The watch wouldn't be a problem except that the fashion part of it is starting to overshadow EVERYthing else. If this watch is REALLY so life changing, why are fashionistas expected to be able to really assist the consumer as to its use, outside of band selection in the "pop-up" stores? A CAR throws so much more into the mix (and I don't care if it is electric, cold fusion, and can be made with a StyleWriter 3D), we are getting VERY far afield now. What kind of company is Apple now?
--------
I never identified with the "cool factor" of Apple. I saw some great products, occasional breakthrough software, and often the best option in a PC world. I bought, recommended, administered these devices for other reasons than style. I don't see a coherent identity for Apple any more. I am hopeful that either they buy Tesla but keep it separate from Apple and make the watch business a subsidiary, or just spin off the Macintosh and become a lifestyle company.

God damn it, you made me retrieve my account just for this...

That's how traditional analog watches look.

Either that model has a cone shaped head...or he doesn't know how to put on a hat. I know it's the "fashion" now. My 10 yr old nephew wears his hat like that, and I always knock it off his head when he comes over.

I know what you're saying about the "geeky" thing, but the funny thing about geekiness is how cool it becomes.

I think the way it goes is this:
Geeky - when you're the only one in the supermarket that has one
Elite - When the only people that have them are those with money, and geeks
Interesting - when you're in the supermarket, and you see 1-3 people that has one
Cool - When kids are begging their parents for one
Common - When everyone has one
Commodity - When grandma or grandpa asks why you don't have one

I'm getting more and more curious about who's going to wear this and how they'll use it.

I mostly buy all my Apple devices because they look good. But the Apple Watch really looks crappy compared to LG's, Samsungs and Huawei's SmartWatches.

So bulky and... Just not pretty. Hope I change my mind when it lands in the mailbox.

I'm saying. Why aren't more people talking about this?

The more pictures of the watch I see, the more I am thinking it is not for me. I am left handed, but this watch seems to be only for the right handed people. I could not put on something that big on my left wrist and still be able to write comfortably. If I put it on my right wrist the crown will by on the wrong side and make using it difficult.

I am almost positive I read somewhere that the watch is ambidextrous and can simply be flipped around to accommodate left handed people. Keep in mind, the bands can be removed and placed on different sides of the watch. And it wouldn't be difficult to flip the image on the watch in the software's settings so that the crown could be on whichever side you prefer. I'm almost certain someone from Apple has addressed this.
