My Apple employer discount get the sports bands down to $44. The saddle brown and orange Hermes are $35 off. Not much, but I had bought another Hermes band because that's not too shabby.

It seems like that would put pressure on your wrist by pushing the watch face constantly.

Nope, there is padding on the rear side of the band to prevent slippage.

They wouldn't announce these at next weeks event since it's education focused and NOT a typical spring product event. To be honest they may not even announce any products at next weeks event.

For context, the original comment which I thought was funny:
There's 25 minutes gone from the Spring event next week
:D

I think you’ll find they didn’t announce them at the event they announced new Apple Watch bands yesterday BEFORE the event.
You've basically re-confirmed my initial worry you missed the joke. You definitely missed it... by a very, very, very large amount :p

Give me a break, the product line was 1/3 what it is now and there were plenty of whining back then, go look in this very forums archive. Rose colored glasses are really annoying.

Most times when something is not updated, it's Intel dragging their damn feet, complain to them. The Mac Pro and Mac mini are probably the only significant current hole in the lineup.
Mac Mini has thunderbolt 2, and a CPU that is now four generations old. But that's NOT Apple's fault?

Blame EVERYONE else but Apple, all you like. But it won't change the apathy/disregard Apple has for large segments of their own lineup.

It's not a "large segment" it's a minuscule but vocal segment.

I don’t knock anyone’s decision to buy Apple bands, but they are a waste of money to me. Maybe I’ve just gotten lucky but my cheap knock-off ones feel great and still look good. I don’t currently have much disposable income, but even if I did, I don’t think I’d get Apple bands.

I don’t think that’s it in this case, because I got to pick the hardware color and the leather color— got it from an etsy person in the U.S.

The makers are so close. I would pay $100 for a nice leather band but the area around the lugs has to be occupied by the band.
Even with the knockoff sport loops the narrow bands keep my wallet shut.

Amazon supposedly had the best quality knock off sport loops - I ordered a total of 4 and all 4 went back within mins. The narrow band is definitely a deal killer.

I went to the Apple Store and gave them my $53 dollars for the black sport loop reluctantly but I’m happy and it’s what I wanted quality wise.

Gee, I wonder why it's so minuscule - Mac Pro and Mac Mini - as both have been ignored by Apple for 4-5 years.

While updates to those are long overdue, they wouldn’t change that it’s not a big item revenue-wise. The 90s are over.

I purchased one recently based on assurances by others here the narrow band wasn’t an issue.
I received it and it was.
Contacted the seller. They were more than eager to resolve the issue.
The seller asked me to chose a different color as they were out of the crimson sport loop. The odd thing was, they still had it posted for sale. Not sure if it was an on hand inventory issue but they were accommodation.
At the end of the day, the band works. However, it’s not the same quality and attention to detail that the Apple loops are.
The knockoffs are used for my Nike version. The closest the knockoffs get to the edition and SBSS is a view from the cheap seats.

I think that this is really a personal preference issue. I can spot a fake band (even a sport) quite easily. I see some that look good and some that look like crap. Usually the latter. Some of the bands aren't even really so bad, it's more that I think the style looks weird with the AW and I just don't care for details like the buckles, the stitching, the way they connect with the watch, etc.

I have seen some really nice 3rd party bands, but they are not cheap knockoffs. They are styles that differ from Apple's offerings and most aren't cheap.

Holy crap, has Apple been boring in the last six months ....

This is about Apple Watch bands and if you don't need or want one, then I guess this is boring, but people who like to buy new bands and switch up their watches DO like to discuss them. I mean, I like my MBP and all that, but I find sitting around going on and on about specs a real snooze. Always have. If it works when I want it to work, I am happy. And, it does.

Yeah it’s definitely a personal choice. I had actually built up a fairly extensive and expensive watch collection (by this i mean I had one for any kind of outfit I wear). Wanted to recreate that on the cheap since I moved to Apple Watch. To me the focal point is the watch face and I use it more practically than I ever did before (in fact years ago I stopped using watches to tell time I just wore them out of habit preferring my phone). Also I much prefer charging every night... it always seemed all my watch batteries died at the same time lol.

The leather loop is made with actual leather and magnets embedded in the band for nearly infinite sizing options.

That band is worth more than 30 or 40 bucks. I have several.

I get not wanting to pay for quality, but let's not be totally cheap. You could probably find one for less than 150 on eBay in great shape, but not for what you want to pay. You can find knockoffs of that style on eBay, so if you like the look but don't really care about the quality, you could try there.

That band has come in black, midnight blue, brown, tan, gray, white, and cosmos blue. What color did you need?

I think it would look good in an olive drab green or a hunter green, myself.

Maybe a red.
[doublepost=1521692341][/doublepost]

Agreed. I want a really rich red.
I thought I made it clear in my post that I wasn't willing to pay that insane markup for the Apple one. The knock off leather looks and feels about the same. I could even see $50 for genuine leather, but not triple that. Let's not forget that leather comes from cows, of which there is a nearly endless supply. I get that processing skin into quality leather costs money, but this isn't a limited resource. The fact that the Velcro ones are $50 tells you just how crazy the markup on bands actually is. I don't have a problem paying Apple premium for their other hardware. The quality/engineering makes it worth it to me. A leather/plastic/metal/silicon strap? not as much.

I think you should buy whatever you want, but knock off "leather" is not usually even leather.

Apple's bands are quite pricey, but there also appears to be a significant quality difference. I haven't found third-party bands that are as good. Monowear is perhaps close.
