Been waiting 3+ years for a decent Sport green color. Like a Forest or Hunter or mid range green. Nothing pastel or super bright. Another year I shall go..

I have both and the Apple bands are much better. I’m guessing it’s a combination of margins and not wanting to kill 3rd party band market. Although outside of partnerships with Nike and Hermès Apple hasn’t ever promoted 3rd party bands so I wonder how much they really care about he 3rd party band market.

Nike and Hermes is massive branding. Do you have any idea how many third party bands are available for the Apple Watch? (Rhetorical) Likely Thousands. As the Apple Watch has grown, third party bands have expanded exponentially. I would also say there’s a fairly large market for third-party bands due to Apples prices with their OEM bands. Yes, they are not the quality that Apples bands are with finish, but there literally impossible to distinguish the difference between Apples bands and third party bands. Most consumers want to save by purchasing three or four third party bands at what the cost of two Apple Watch bands would amount to.

This is where Apple’s obsession with margins sometimes goes wrong. I have a lot of watch bands but have friends who only have one or two (if more than one most likely a gift) because no way are they spending $49 for them. Drop to $29 and they would sell way more.

Yes but then you go from a luxury brand to a bargain brand

Or until the fall. That's more of a fall color. I would love Kelly green or emerald. Forest or hunter would probably be too dark for my own taste. The more vivid, the better for me!

What's with the long watch strap on the bottom right? Is that a watch for torsos or legs?

And the last "update" was really a pathetic downgrade.

Dude, are you posting in the right thread and quoting the right post??? This article and my comment has nothing to do with the Mac Mini. And if your post has something to do with Apple updating watch bands instead of upgrading the Mac Mini, I'm sorry, but there is no correlation between the two.

I don't doubt that Apple's bands are a higher quality, but if I can get a sport band for $5 vs $50, a milanese band for $5 vs $150 and a link bracelet for $9 vs $500.... I'd rather spend the $15 and get 3 (lower quality) bands than spend $50, $150, or $500 to get only one extra.

Your ‘eye rolling’ comment matches the opinion of many, even though you now abandon that position.

The desire to keep an iDevice product line, constantly “fresh”, does show us what the artist, formally known as ‘Apple Computers Inc.’, really feels about their roots.

That wasn’t meant as a jab at you, in any way. It just further highlights how far Apple has deviated from their roots, to the chagrin of many long time Apple enthusiasts.

Look for indistinguishable knockoffs on Amazon Marketplace at a tenth of the cost in about ... now.
Not indistinguishable in terms of quality.

Who thinks Apple’s $49 sport bands are luxury items?

I know this is old news by now but scnr: $49? A steal! Here in Germany they cost 59€ which equals around $72!!

Includes VAT, so really about $60, so the diff is a bit less.

Right... yet Jobs announced and sold socks, for Ipods.

not the item individually but the brand itself. nobody thinks the regular white headphones from Apple are a luxury item but they will charge you $30 for it which is ludicrous when you can get bluetooth headphones for that price these days. Its all about perception... you can't go too cheap even on the cheaper products.

I like some of these, but I'd absolutely love it if they dropped the price of these things to $29. They're extremely high quality, don't get me wrong. But I'd own so many more of these at that price. Surely they'd still be very profitable even at $20 less.

Boom!

29$ sale on the pearl nylon woven at Best Buy as a clearance item solidified it for me

It’s the most comfy band I own I think and doesn’t look half bad, but I still would feel guilty if I paid $49 for it

$29 id prolly end up buying a few bands to switch it up, vs none anymore

You didn’t understand the context of my first post. Please re-read it. For reference, you originally stated:

outside of partnerships with Nike and Hermès Apple hasn’t ever promoted 3rd party bands so I wonder how much they really care about he 3rd party band market.

Aside from Hermes and Nike, I stated that its massive branding because of the name. You went on to state how you “Wonder how much Apple cares about the third-party bands market”. I stated that there are thousands of bands offered at a much lower price point that directly compete with the Apple Watch OEM bands. Apple doesn’t have to promote any other third-party bands in order for consumers to realize they can save money with third party bands that look absolutely identical to Apples bands. In terms of quality, Apple’s bands are superior, but price point wise, the consumer doesn’t always care about that when there alternatives that are cheaper. That was my point.

I agree. Even though I can easily afford them, there is a psychological barrier for me at $50. I just can't bring myself to spend half a hundred on a dang watch band. I just won't do it - maybe it has to do with being raised not being able to afford stuff like that. I'd gladly spend $100 bucks to get 3 or 4 bands though, even in one purchase. It feels different.

Agree completely. I won't wear knockoffs and that means I have exactly one sport band purchased at regular price. Even though I have the money and would love to change the look up (a lot, even), $49 is higher than I can justify for a sport band. At $29, I probably would go buy ten of them.

Wasn't this $29 for the pack of five? That's a good reminder that Apple hasn't always charged the extreme prices we see today.

I have a Series 3 Nike watch, but the non-LTE variant, and I don’t have this watch-face color combination option, the white with crimson accents. I just have a white with volt. Does anyone else have this option or will be be introduced when the new bands become available?

I have that already. I have the watch that came with the crimson/black loop.

My wife and I love the leather loop style, but at $150, we'll stick with the lower quality ripoffs. I wouldn't mind a $29-39 price point, but Apple's markup on these is insane. I guess we'll stick with $12 eBay bands, and have enough color variety that they will last as long as a single Apple one.

Hmm, that’s interesting. I looked on the store app and see what you mean. Is yours the LTE version? Maybe that’s the difference, as you can see from this screenshot, the non-LTE like mine, aren’t shown with this color combination.
