Considering the nature of my job it gets old checking my iPhone Plus every 5 seconds to make sure I didn't miss an important notification, and its actually surprising how many notifications I do tend to miss (whether its on sound or on vibrate). I've also been waiting for a FitBit like solution, so the Apple Watch would suit both these needs. A mere turn of the wrist to keep up to date on the latest notifications instead of fumbling around for my iPhone wherever the heck I left it is worth the price of entry for me (although I will likely opt for the Sport edition to save on the cost).

What a waste of money!! Why by a piece of electronics that is tethered to an iPhone? Instead just use your iPhone and get a Fitbit or similar which is a lot cheaper. Now if the Watch was able to do something completely out of the ordinary such as give accurate blood glucose checks with out pricking the skin then that would be worth the $$$.

Yes, the kids of today are jumping up and down for accurate blood glucose checks

They certainly don't want Instagram, the ability to send their friends colourful drawings and selfies.

Thanks. I was accurate in that the link you provided did not say.

I still wouldn't risk it. I doubt Apple will be handing out replacements very easily on that claim.

You could have done the 1 second Google/Wiki search even before doing the initial comment. Yet, you didn't.

How do you smell? :p

I imagine with his nose. How do you smell?

Really? It was worth you commenting? I could have. I didn't. Thanks for pointing out the obvious. I hope you're planning on fact checking everyone who posts equally - especially when they post something inaccurate...

Boring night huh? ;)

It could happen, but probably not as soon as they did for the original iPhone.

Today they reduced the price of the Apple TV from $99 to $69.

I'm betting that price drop had to do with HBO making Apple TV the only subscribing service. It was probably part of the deal to put the service in more hands.

Forced advertisement. Many users will probably be influenced by it to purchase an Apple Watch.

The app itself probably just a small front end for system services related to the watch in IOS 8.2. You wouldn't gain much space by deleting it. I'm guessing that would also help in interacting with watches in the vicinity (not your own).

I wonder why they use so many black screens, probably to hide those god awful bezels. In this day and age of beautiful bezel-less smartwatches Apple's stands out like a sore thumb.

Or the fact that I'm not entirely sure they are winning the streaming device "war." Their competition has an incredible install base, more streaming options and often at a lower price. While the Roku 3 is $99, you can almost always get it on sale. And you can do quite a bit with the Chromecast for even less.

The Apple TV has Airplay and iTunes. Now they have HBO as a selling point. I'm going to throw it out there that the exclusivity won't be "too" long.

So many negative reactions on these forums, kinda funny how people still haven't used the device.

So many people ready to hand over their wallet and praise the Apple Watch on these forums. Kinda funny how people still haven't used the device.

See how that works?

Everyone is entitled their opinion.

A market with very limited use cases. I think companies are gambling a losing battle. It's a fad for now. Yes it grew 10 fold but it'll pass and die out like any other fad.

The company that can make a real need use case for a smart watch will win the market. Apple has an idea to use it with health kit, medical research, and medical ID. Is that the direction to take the smart watch is for your health? Maybe.

Point is: Smart watches have no direction. No one has a clue where to take it besides Apple. Apple has an idea. Everyone else is kind of just throwing a bunch of crap in the smart watch and hoping it sticks.

You are so correct in saying "its a fad for now". I agree. It is also true that no company has been able to predict a practical use case for the smart watch yet.

However I believe we should not write-off the smart watches/wearables yet. Technology is evolving. They're a fad today because the OEMs are not able to channel their ideas - which also means that the opportunities are indeed endless. Don't forget smart in-car systems (this includes Android) and smart in-house systems (this again includes Android) are on their way. Smart wearables today are interfaced just like another phone - a mistake when rectified, will allow them their own new category of functioning, and very soon their use case will increase greatly.

I'll have to disagree when you say "Everyone else is kind of just throwing a bunch of crap in the smart watch and hoping it sticks". The others are rather designing their watches as a independent device - a way to go, if you really want your new category to be more functional.

Secondly, this is an evolving phase of wearable tech - hence nobody is correct, just like nobody is wrong. Also, in not time Google will pull one string and integrate everything with every other thing; Apple will only integrate every Apple thing with every other recent Apple thing.

How are hardware updates applied?

Here the base model is $499 AUD for the small one. But the kicker is the top model, we're talking new car money for one of those. Yes I know there are much more expensive watches in the world which people by but why such a price difference for a bit of gold when it doesn't do anything different and doesn't look any better?

In Australia the Gold version will sell for about $14K. When Apple release a new phone we buy a completely new device for each model.

For the Gold Watch what happens when the hardware is upgraded? Is it a trade in? Do they offer hardware upgrade to the owner's existing model? If Apple offers hardware upgrades to the Gold model then will they also do the same for cheaper models?

I don't see the attraction in spending $14K each time a new Apple Watch is released.

This thing is so dumb. It's worthless without a phone in your pocket. Leaving Bluetooth on all day for communication will drain the iPhone battery even faster than it already does.

No apple is throwing in a bunch of crap too. The difference between Apple and the rest is that Apple has an idea. It could be a bad idea or a good idea.

Name me one reason why you must have a smart watch in order to live day to day? ... *stares at clock on the phone as it ticks

You need a phone. You need a computer. You need an internet connection. Most jobs only accept online applications now. You also need a car unless you have good public transportation. You need a place to live. The smart home is a fantastic idea with real world case uses that can become a need with climate change and reducing the carbon footprint.

The idea being with the apple smart watch is that it's used to monitor your health. Phones can't do it. Cars can't do it. Homes can't do it. It's a good idea the question is will it take off? Will other companies follow suit and design their smart watches around health like apple did. Do people care enough about their health to spend 400 dollars for it or a 1000 to look good doing it.

Yes there are other devices too but nothing that links to health kit, medical ID, or medical research. Apple has clearly designed this product with health in mind.

How can you possibly say this with a straight face. What is "thrown in" on the LG G/R watch. Or the Moto 360. Or the Pebble.

Apple is no better/no worse. They've thrown in a lot of "crap" into their OS as well. There are some great things (like Apple Pay accessibility) etc - but you clearly have NO experience with other smart watches if you think they are just throwing in a bunch of crap COMPARED to Apple.

Where's theverge first impressions? They weren't impressed and they love Apple.

The first impressions by The Verge were for the original "hands-on" demo from last year and many of the apps weren't available and the OS for the watch was still in beta. This time around it's more polished and there were several apps available. I watched the first impressions on The Verge from today's keynote and they gave a positive review of the watch.
