I got a deal on a brand new pair of solo2 wireless. they were a steal at $180 unopened from a friend who needed cash. Never been a fan of anything beats because I can appreciate good clean sound. I use paradigm studio's in my home theater so I hear good sound on a regular basis. Bur I was shocked at good they sound for 1. Being beats & 2. Being wireless. I'm far from an audiophile but these sound great to me. Maybe slightly heavy on the low end, but more then acceptable.

Being and Audiophile has nothing to do with it. There's only 1 question, do you like to sound. I don't like beats sound. They have got better, but for me still waaaaay to much bass emphasis.

Huh? Both the Beats and the Bose Soundlink bluetooth headphones are excellent. Guess you haven't looked around enough...

You're forgetting a cheaper alternative that works well. It's Outdoor Tech BT adapter for $40 which I own and it could convert ANY standard headphone for wireless listening.

It's awesome and will save money in buying a new BT headphone gear. It's also rechargeable and can be used while driving for Siri voice control.

Ever try running and change the song using the iPhone? It sucks, much better option.

The watch could still control playback on the phone.

Bluetooth with wires! What could be better? ;)

Honest to God anybody who purchases the 17K Edition model is either 1- A Fool, or 2- A rich jerk, or 3- A combination of both.

Seriously, it does the same thing as the Sport model does and you know 2 years from now (Maybe even by next year) this model is going to be completely and totally obsolete (hey iPad 1st gen!)

Your statement comes across as someone that is jealous of those who have a lot of money. Not everyone that has a millions in disposable income is a fool or a jerk. There is nothing wrong with Apple providing a product that fits their desires. What a lot of folks fail to realize us that Apple is partly entering the fashion market and they must design, market, and cater to that market if they want to be successful.

In your opinion.

I don't like the sound from either of these two brands. Beats have got better, but still far to much emphasis on the bass. The Bose soundlink, though better sounding than Beats are on ear headphones, not good for running.

And let's not forget that it is the most accurate watch in the world..for about five hours.

Nope, not accurate at all. I have absolutely no jealousy or desire to own an Apple Watch Edition. I just don't get it; this isn't a Rolex. At the end of the day, this is a consumer electronic device, period. And just like any other consumer electronic, it will be updated regularly, thinned out, etc, rendering the older models basically obsolete. And I don't see why anybody would want to spend that much money on a device that will be rendered that way very soon, when they can get the exact same thing in what I find to be an aesthetically pleasing design for far less. But I guess if you have $15k just sitting around then why not (rolls eyes)

What's the point of 2GB music with no headphone socket port?
Bluetooth is not the answer here unless you consider having the watch require bluetooth headphones just like it requires an iPhone.

A headphone lead running from a watch sounds like a real problem
Bluetooth is definitely a better solution - no leads to tangle!

It blows my mind that the $350 version and the $17K version have the exact same tech specs. I realize the price is directly related to the fashion factor. It's just weird to see a gadget that does the same exact job across the board regardless of price, aside from the screen size which is a surprisingly modest price increase.

A Kia does almost the same as a lot of luxury cars out there. Jeans can be had for $10 or $1000.

Hey, I agree. The Sport Model or the (maybe) Stainless Steel model is absolutely the most practical thing for me. And I completely agree that the Watch will be replaced by a much better model in 1-2 years, and the v1 will likely be obsolete in 3 years. However, that may not matter to someone with millions in disposable income. They'll just buy a new 18K Watch whenever they feel like it. But just because the ultra high-end watch isn't practical for you or me doesn't mean that there isn't a market for it, because there is. And calling them jerks or rolling your eyes at the concept does express some form of jealousy or ignorance towards other people's desires.

Obviously the watch will be useful for some people but for most we will still need to carry our iPhone. When you go to your gym do you go without a phone?

My understanding is that if the gym has a wifi you can leave the iPhone in the locker while you go exercise with just a watch and nothing else. Please correct me if I am wrong.

----------

So, what on earth is the other 8GB for? The Watch OS and built in apps can't be that big!

Do some reverse thinking. 8GB on your watch could potentially mean 8GB of free space on your iPhone. You could put your workout/commute playlist on the watch and 8GB extra of Apps on your iPhone. Of course, it all depends on the user.

My view is this will be useful for me. And I realise it will not be useful to everyone.

Why?

1. Because I want something small that I can use to count my steps (I try and do 10,000 a day) and the watch will tell me this. I will not need to take my iPhone out with me for the steps to be counted. I do not need to know where I have been (therefore I do not need GPS on the watch) as I will have just been there. I realise some people DO want to know where they have been on a map and that is fine. But for me, it is about how far I have walked / calories burnt etc not the route I have taken. I did once have a GPS watch but found it more useful for measuring how far I'd walked not WHERE I'd walked.

2. I want to listen to music during my walk with the dog and having the storage referred to gives me 200+ tunes to listen to with bluetooth earphones. More than enough for 10,000 steps.

3. I always wear a watch for telling me the time / date. Tick.

4. I actually do not think the watch I will purchase (£339) is expensive compared to some models of watches I own. And given what I have said above, the :apple:Watch will do much more that will prove to be useful. Would I pay £600+ for a watch? Probably not but hey - I don't have to.

5. In addition, I work from home and having the watch with me instead of carrying around my phone in my pocket, whether upstairs, in the garden etc, will be very useful. Including for counting my steps, answering messages, quick calls etc.

6. I sometimes use the treadmill in the house and at the moment to count my steps I have to carry my phone. Now I can leave it downstairs and use the watch, whilst still listening to music through bluetooth headphones (and of course still receive notifications).

7. I like the idea of directions when walking on the watch - when we travel I will be able to use directions on the watch, and keep my phone in my bag instead of carrying it in my hand which sometimes isn't a great thing for security reasons. Again I will also be able to receive notifications without taking the phone out of the bag.

I consider the watch will allow me to use the phone less and less.

So for my money the watch works a treat.

Just my two pence worth.

Shawn

<standing ovation>

Exactly. All of the above.

8 GB internal with 6 GB free space... yeah right, since this watch tethered with the iphone, might as well use the iphone for music.

But you have to get all music from iPhone to Apple Watch anyway and why waste the battery and require iPhone to be nearby when you can just store locally?

This is absolutely awesome!! Leave my phone at home go for a run/bike ride! Perfect!!

I still don't see why would I need an Apple Watch.
My phone is with me at all times.
If I'm home I don't wear a watch, and if my iPhone is far away, I'd just dial or answer calls on my iMac or iPad.

And I've never been good with wearing a watch, as these end up broken.
The only watch that has lasted me a very long time and still looks intact is a Casio G-Shock watch.

Wow, thanks for the personal update. We've all been wondering when you would let us know what your needs are.

----------

And let's not forget that it is the most accurate watch in the world..for about five hours.

Hyperbole much? Let's not forget that it has power saving, and will function as a watch for a long time.

I think it's RARE for someone to carry their phone with them in the gym. Usually their phone is left in their car or the gym locker, and not out on the floor.

I use my phone on the elliptical to watch movies all the time. And when I’m not on the elliptical doing weight work the phone is in my pockets connected to a Bluetooth headset. I have a LG G watch connected to my Note 4 but it’s pointless to put music on the watch when I’m already connected to my phone which has 96GB of combined storage. The smartwatch comes in very handy to see notifications without interrupting the movie or taking the phone out my pocket. But I would never use it as a standalone mp3 player. Makes little sense because I must have my phone with me at all times for emergency purposes.

I just don't see the value in this device. As soon as iOS is on version 10 the gen1 watch is most likely not going to be supported rendering the device useless. Where as spending this kind of money on a high end watch it will last forever and is water resistant. Also high end watches go up in value where as the Apple Watch will only go down in value. That's just the nature of technology.

I also don't get why Siri is even on this device. Why not plug the mic hole and make the watch water resistant/proof? I dunno I think Apple really missed the mark on this. Some of the bands are more expensive than the watch itself.

this device is pretty useless...if you are serious about sports get a Heart Rate Monitor...otherwise everything else is duplicating iPhone functions

I don't think it is useless and I am a marathon runner. I think it is amazing I can finally go on a run, listen to music, and track my run without needing an arm band, my phone and having to wear a chest strap for heart rate monitor. Being able to not have these items on me while running is what I have been waiting for! And please don't say it can't accurately track runs without GPS because Runkeeper and other running apps let you map out your run afterwards on their website to get exact distance aka what GPS would be doing while you run. But for people who pretend to workout ya this is not for them at all

----------

8GB storage for $350 LOL yup... way overpriced.

if the watch is $100 then i'll buy one for my kid.

Yup you are paying $350 for 8GB storage and nothing else at all. It can't do anything else at all but store 8GB of data.

I highly doubt there is enough space for 512 GB.

Yeah, thatsthejoke.jpg.

Gold at $10K - that's the problem. In a year, the new watch will be a millimeter thinner, and have more memory, processor, whatever.

and you have a ten thousand watch that is as relevant as the iphone 4 is today.

It really is for people who have ridiculous amounts of money. Not even really for people who make six digits and buy a $10,000 watch that they keep for years and years. It's for people who make millions and blow it on buying a solid gold watch every year or even a few times per year. Sure, you could spend $10,000 on one without being rich. I could buy one without completely breaking the bank. But I never would, and I wouldn't expect anyone else like me to buy one. It's not for me. It's not for 99% of the people on these forums. It's a marketing tool for Apple to increase their brand value perception.

Show me a reasonably priced and actually good pair of bluetooth headphones and I will agree with you. The tech is not there yet to actually make good ones.

I agree totally. Just enough to get it all to work and that's it. Will make future upgrades that up the ram amount a necessity because more intensive watch apps will come around that can use the extra ram.
Jaybird Bluebuds X are amazing and I've used them for a couple years. Every day at work and also at the gym.

There're similar ones out there too. I know my coworkers have some cheaper ones (battery just doesn't last as long), but I can't recall the brand.

Seriously, it's 2015. I've been using stereo Bluetooth head/earphones for at least 7 years.

I've been amused by all the hostility the Apple Watch has generated on this forum. The first question anyone who would buy one should ask is: "do I want to buy a watch?" If the answer is no, then you're done. Second question, "what's my budget?" You can get perfectly good Bulovas for under $100, so if that's the answer then you're done. If you're willing to spend $300-$1000 for a high quality watch then the next question is "What do I want for this watch?" Only then should you weigh the Apple Watch against its competitors.

All the "Fail!" "Too expensive" "Silly gadget" complaints add nothing to the analysis. For me, I gave up wearing a watch a few years ago because the iPhone serves the same function. Recently I've been missing having a watch. Also, I like the idea of not pulling my phone out to check notifications because, really, it's a very rude social development. Checking the watch is much less intrusive into meals, conversations, etc.

But you know what Taylor Swift says about haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate ...

Who is Taylor Swift? Regardless, I hate her :D

Well, I do think it's ignorant honestly. If someone is going to drop THAT much money on a watch, why get this instead something like a Rolex or other luxurious brand that IS timeless, and isn't going to be rendered almost useless within a matter of years. I mean maybe I'm looking too much into it, but I'm definitely not jealous of people who might buy this. I certainly wouldn't even if I had the funds to do so.

That being said though, I'm really interested to see how much further they take this concept. I'm not going to get one of these right now because I just don't see really any viable reason to have one, but I'm sure within the next year or so my mind will change on that. But I'll probably just stick to the sport model!

Bluetooth is not the answer here unless you consider having the watch require bluetooth headphones just like it requires an iPhone.

And I wonder how the memory (NOT the same thing as storage) is handled on the Apple Watch. Is part of the 8GB just used as memory or does the Apple Watch have some amount of dedicated memory? If so I cam't see more than 512MB of memory in it. But I could be wrong.

Would you really use a watch with headphone tethered to it? Talk about impractical!

This is absolutely awesome!! Leave my phone at home go for a run/bike ride! Perfect!!

Not sure if serious. Maybe for someone that is single with little worry but as a family man with an 18 year daughter driving to school/work and a 15 year old in sports I can’t be without my phone. If I was to forget my phone at home I would have to turn around and come back for it because there would be no quick way to contact me if an emergency came up.

This isn't new in the watch business. A SUUNNTO watch does the same exact thing (if not more) than a Rolex yet the price difference is astronomical. It's the materials used.
