I don't think its an issue at all with whatever band you have, but you have the BCB, which dresses it up nicely. So don't worry about it at all. Unless you are concerned that its too feminine due to its size, then I can't help you. :):)

I'm a lawyer at a global law firm and wear the stainless steel Apple Watch. Currently using the white sports band but awaiting my link bracelet, which I think will be more suitable for pairing with a suit.

I'm not following you, I swear (I just responded to your link band thread).

That said, my husband is in the same boat only with the black sport band.

Hopefully, we'll have those link bracelets soon.

This. Apple Watch is a tech toy for the younger crowd and always will be. It will never go with a nice suit in a formal setting like a high end mechanical watch, ever.

Serious question:

Do that many men sit around looking at other men's watches to see if they're "high end mechanical" or not?

:)

Business men notice everything. Your suit, your shoes, your glasses, what car you pull up in and most certainly your watch. Even if I would have kept my AW, no way in hell I wear it to a business meeting with rich clients.

So, they're snobby?

:D

I think I'd be paying more attention to the actual ability of a person to conduct business, but I think this supports my theory that most people who have gotten very far in management are former cheerleaders. ;)

People can put on a wide variety of airs and be broke and terrible with money.

I do notice clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc, but I tend to put more emphasis on my impressions of what a person is saying and how they're behaving.

I sometimes notice other men's watches and think either it's rubbish or a great looking watch

I totally agree
Snobby or not that's the way it is

I do that with women's jewelry. :D

And I know that it's the way things are, but I think it's kinda snobby. And, granted, we all feel snobbish about one thing or another (even if we don't want to admit it to ourselves), but I think men might be worse than women at some levels of business...

Depends on the industry. Interesting!

My industry is extremely pretentious, a few more years and I'm out :)

Hey everyone!

My job role requires me to often dress formally and I've been using automatic watches for the past 15 years. (Mont Blanc)

I have a 38mm SS BCB on order and I'm not still quite sure about wearing one of those in a formal attire, with a suit.

Anyone here who wears one? Thoughts? :)

It's all subjective and most geeks don't understand style. I wouldn't rock a sports watch to work, but I would rock a normal Apple watch with a nice band to work. It's not really about the gadget, it's more about your confidence.

I work in a somewhat business environment and kind of want out because of the snobby'ish attitude along with lack of ability.

Going back into more 'tech' later this year where what you wear doesn't matter and the only thing that matters is your ability.

So, they're snobby?

Out here in southern California, yes they are unfortunately. I live in and do business in one of the top 10 most wealthy areas in the country. When you are trying to secure multi million dollar deals, you need to look the part. Believe me, I wish I could show up in shorts and sandals and take clients to TGI Fridays :). Its usually suits and ties and the whole 9 with lunch and drinks. Ironic part is its usually Tommy Bahamas across the street from the beach, so shorts and sandals should be an option, but I digress.

Well, even I would turn up my nose if you tried to take me to TGI Fridays for business or any other reason. ;)

You are in Southern California... say no more.

I'm more accustomed to Northern California and it is so variable in SV.

Totally about the feeling of wearing something that is more mature. I'm not quite sure how to explain this feeling. Don't get me wrong, the Apple watch is amazing. But, in a formal setting, does it go well with the dress code ?

Exactly my point. Some people tend to look at these things as toys. :roll eyes:

They are toys. Don't get me wrong, I love my particular toy, but I am aware it's still a toy.

I work in the tech sector, so I have a feeling the Watch would be perfectly acceptable in our boardroom. That said, I won't be wearing it to any formal events. If I worked in an industry that was more traditional, I probably wouldn't wear it to any serious meetings either. Now, I might change my mind once my steel link band arrives. It could give the watch an entirely different feel, less sporty, perhaps a bit more serious.

I would say that affluent people definitely notice the higher end things that you wear, it makes you seem "on their level". I think it's more about commonality with them and less about the actual item. For me I work in a second generation high end jewelry store, I'm young and to someone walking in the door they could easily think I was just a salesperson not an owner. That's one of the reasons I wear Hermes belts, and my Rolex or Hublot. The average person never even notices but men with nice watches always do and women with LV bags etc. always do as well. It's a status thing.

I can speak from personal experience on two industries - financial markets and aerospace. In aerospace you can wear whatever, at whatever level you are, and no one cares. Your watch is totally irrelevant.

In the financial markets, it depends one where you are in the structure. If you're front desk (or you want to be) and working your way up, with dinner and golf with clients and such, yes, you pretty much need the nicest watch your bonus or your credit card can get you. If you're middle or back and aren't working to make the front desk, no one cares what you wear. It won't determine your advancement. If you're top of the pile, you can pull off anything you want, but you're also not going to be asking what you should wear in a forum like this, LOL.

In NYC and LA, yes, pretty much everyone will judge you based on what you wear, and not just on your wrist. In NYC we called it the "once over" and girls get it more than guys. If you're "last year" or "no year" or whatever some girls won't deign to meet your eyes let alone talk to you. It's a very friendly, welcoming environment.

Now that I live in Seattle, no one cares what I wear anymore (on my wrist or otherwise). My pink hair is much more likely to hinder my career advancement than my clothes or my watch.

Personally, I wouldn't want to work in a profession/industry where someone would go one way or another about a business deal because your watch wasn't high end enough for them. As far as the "gadget"-ness of the Apple Watch, it helps me do my job more efficiently. If you're so busy being a dinosaur that you can't realize a useful productivity tool, then I'll be the one looking down on you, not the other way around.

Am I the only one that uses the email/text/calendar features on my watch to make my work life more productive? It's a tool, and I am of the opinion that the person who uses the most useful tools for the job is the person I want to do business with.

Ridiculous. The SS bracelet options look classy and awesome in any setting. So would the classic buckle.

Come on now! REALLY?!?! Is this actually a question?

The stainless steel was created for formal settings. And it actually looks good with a suit. It's not just a piece of tech. Apple worked really hard to make this thing a fusion piece as well so you wouldn't be scared to wear it in a formal setting.

Is it a Rolex? No. But nothing techy can be a Rolex.

The Apple watch can 100% be worn with a suit.

You lost me with the BCB?? Edit: Ah, I think you mean black classic buckle. Totally appropriate for business, trust me.

I am an HR professional and I wear my watch every day. I'm getting tons of reaction, all positive, from people that I work with. Talked to a new hire this morning and had to do a demo for him - he was very excited. ;)

I have the Milanese loop band and it looks awesome with business attire. I couldn't be happier.

You're confusing men with women.

Certainly it won't be admitted here too much, but all you need to do is go to few other sites of other hobbies, cars boats, etc. and Apple can be really polarizing. I can't take that chance when I'm contracting millions of dollars worth of business. Sometimes what they don't say is important as to what they do. It's just not worth it. Everyone accepts a hi end offering from the major watch players: Omega, Rolex Breitling/ Swiss watch. Kinda like a Brooks Brothers charcoal suit.

Is this a serious post? What kind of servant to the rich are you that you can't even be confident enough to wear an Apple Watch? Wow......

Woman here. I wouldn't even notice if you shaved your head one day. I just don't spend that much time worrying about other people. As long as you are appropriate for the circumstances, I'm not looking at brands.
