Yawn, really? "Complications" has a negative connotation to the primary market. Nothing you suggest "changing" has the same issue.

Do people today go out and buy "moneybags" and "packsacks" or do they buy "backpacks?" Ridiculous...

In the watch world, that word is still in use. Your analogy doesn't really work.

Though not announced based on the fact that Sports model has an Ion Glass screen vs Sapphire and is the less flashy brushed aluminum over chromed steel or whatever is on the other models; it's a fair assumption. I mean if you see a brown pile, it looks like crap, smells like crap are you really going to taste it to make sure it's crap?

You sir have never eaten Campbell's meatballs. Sometimes it's worth the risk.

Same thing with Brain's ******s. :D

Edit: Really MacRumors? A UK culinary delight is censored.!!!!! Yes, yes, I understand why, but still. :(

Wait for ALL the bugs.

...In addition to the bugs that won't be fixed yet from 10.10 and ios 8. It's all nice to get excited about the watch, but I could wait a while longer so they can SLOW DOWN and fix what we have now.

Tell that to the investors that sell at any delay in progress...

And so they will learn...no sense dumbing down vocabulary for idiots.

I was in charge of training some people, and when approached by their manager, he said, "You need to explain it to them so they understand."

My response was this: "No, I will tech them to come to my level of expertise. That way, when I leave, they will have the understanding to stand on their own."

I won, and so did they.

It really couldn't be any of them. A gold watch for $349. No. A stainless steel watch with sapphire glass prices less than an aluminum one with a plastic band. The logic of the process of elimination makes the sport watch the only one that could be $349 unless Apple has an all plastic version they haven't shown yet -- and which would be very deceptive given they gave us a $349 price while previewing the the 3 metal varieties.

It'll be plastic.

Unapologetically plastic.

The :apple:Watch C

Yes! That one is my target too. I like the lighter Sport, but I much prefer the elegant Steel. And no to gold, I am not that old. Oh, it's rhyme.

:D
From the hands-on photos, the regular stainless steel :apple: Watch looks amazing with a steel link bracelet. I hope that it is included with the watch and not purchased separately. Hopefully it won't be more than around 500 or I might have to pass this time around.
I think my favorite combination would be a light-colored stainless steel Apple Watch with a dark stainless steel link with the solar watch face.

I think they should find a different word to use than 'Complications' :)

Seriously. It sounds like a parody... of Microsoft jargon trying to be too cute and cool by half.

For a company that prides its products as being easy to use I now maybe think I should sell my Apple stock and buy shares in "face palm meme." Hard to believe the upper execs approved that word for the world to associate with the first (post Jobs) Tim Cook product. The late night shows will have some easy fodder there if Apple keeps it.

Hmm... Not liking all the watch reliability on the iPhone, definitely I'll wait for the second generation to see if it can be a standalone device.

Seems to me that if the iPhone battery depletes, the watch is pretty much useless.

I doubt it, for many reasons, but #1 is that if they had one that would be the sport watch, not the aluminum one. #2 they didn't show a plastic one at the preview -- even touted the quality of the cases -- so it would have been a huge c**k tease to show off metal ones for months and then drop a plastic one for $349.

They could have justified a $349 plastic one in Oct easily and then everyone would have their mind set they'd have to spend more for metal. But now everyone thinks they are getting aluminum for $349, so plastic at that price point would blow up in Tim Cook's face.

Good point, but not sure 2nd gen fixes an issue who's genesis is with the iPhone's battery, not the watches.

Which would be great if this were being marketed in the 16th century.
If you read any article about a specific high-end mechanical watch or a comparison of high-end mechanical watches, you will find that term constantly. And the manufacturers also use it all their promotional material.

----------

it's just a small screen to display apps that have barely any more functionality than the stuff you find on the Today notifications screen on your phone.
... in regard to third-party applications.

"In horology, the study of clocks and watches, a complication refers to any feature in a timepiece beyond the simple display of hours and minutes."

Right but 99.9% of people are not horologists or delve into that hobby... well unless there is a adolescent joke in there. Normal people do not know watch jargon. It's not 1947. They understand the common dictionary version of the word.

That's funny. Leisurely reading articles about mechanical watches. Heck even if Watch Week was the only magazine left in my doctor's office, I'd still just read conventional news sites on my phone to pass the time.

Pedantically speaking you are correct. Following those lines, everything the iWatch does beyond telling time is a complication. So do we start calling :apple: watch apps and notifications complications as well? They fit the technical definition.

With only a very few exceptions, mechanical watch complications are displayed together (or inside) the watch face. Thus, one can argue that only stuff shown on screens that include a watch face would be a 'digital' complication.

Yes, "complications" is the correct word to use and shows that Apple is being serious in the field of horology. But, c'mon they're going to be ridiculed in the media, and you know it, and don't give me any "who cares what people think?".

If they do change it to something more average-customer-friendly, I look forward to all the backpedaling here. I also am fully prepared to eat my own words if no one outside the RDF has a problem with "complications."

Is aluminum and Ion strengthened glass more expensive than stainless steel, sapphire and ceramic?

Sapphire/ceramic is the most expansive combo .

Aluminium for a watch is silly, it's going to be a scratch magnet. Stainless steal is a great choice

I'm not even gonna lie. I'm buying this day one just because I can.

I love your attitude. After not wearing a watch for 25 years, I too plan to get one. But, I will probably wait until the initial bugs are worked out. I don't think I could afford it, but the rose gold is just stunning IMHO.

Glad to see someone else here that gets it! :)

i did not imply any of that. stop putting words in my mouth. my question is perfectly valid and neutral.

people stealing watches and wallet requires physical contact. apple pay doesnt require physical contact. totally different things

Apple Pay DOES require physical contact. It requires the user to double click the crown of the watch and click a confirmation on the screen.

They're not going to change it. And I don't think they much care what the media says. The competition has been ridiculing Apple for several years now and Apple has basically ignored it.

Can't wait to get one !

I think the :apple:watch will rock. There is a lot of QQING about the watch but it's the best out there. I use to have and polar loop and I loved it! The apple watch is 3000 times better. Soo I'm more than exited to get one. Some complain about it doesn't have soo features like games but apple take out all unnecessary apps and functions so it only have the things you actually use, it makes it more simply(specially for the none geek users). I hate all the gimmicks samsung devices have. Getting the 350$ one , I don't like fancy jewelry
Sorry my english:)

Just because you haven't heard a term used before doesn't make it any less correct or relevant.

Clearly you're not a watch aficionado, and that's fine, but every hobby/business/etc. has its own jargon. People didn't know what "download" meant, or an "app", etc.

But I guess if you want to dump your AAPL because they're using the correct terms for something rather than dumbing it down, be my guest.
