Pre-ordered the SS with black sports band without seeing it... went in person and still liked the one I ordered best.

RE: Apple Watch is different - you HAVE to try before you buy

I have to agree with the OP. If it is possible / practical to try on the Watch. Do it.

I was ready to order the Sport with the idea that it will be less of a big deal to upgrade in a year or two. I decided, however, to hold off until my appointment (which wasn't until 6:30 PM on pre-order day due to work schedules).

Looking at the two watches side by side, I just couldn't go forward with the Sport and ended up ordering the Apple Watch with leather loop (I was torn between that and the Milanese Loop or however you spell that).

For the record though, that June ETA is killing me. <lol> (Hopefully it does ship earlier as some rumours have suggested).

It is a bit frustrating how different the watches can look on different people or in different photos, and how different people's impressions of them are. I guess it just goes to show that Tim Cook was right about it being a very personal item. But for people like me who have to drive 3+ hours to get to an Apple Store, there's little choice but to do some research and hope you made the right choice.

Well ... a Watch is a utility device that we wear ... and when we wear something its a fashion item like it or not ... as soon as we wear stuff we letting the world know whats our taste and a bit our self caracter.

When we buy clothes online ... its a gamble without trying them on yourself, same thing sould apply to watches.

Apple knows that the watch is as much an utility as a fashion device and to me seeing it in person and trying it on, confirms this and that they went out of their confort zone to make it seem as less as a gadget possible and more fashion !

Blending Fashion and Tech for people to wear is not going to happen over night, its a culture thing, but seeing Apple Taking this risk and going forward reafirms to me that THEY have a real vision and are leaders.

No need to try it on for me.

SG 42mm here. I'm using my watch for the gym and basically utility purposes. Not springing for the more "fashionable" watches the first go around.

I'm using mine for sports/fitness as well which is why I went for the 38. It won't get in the way as much as the 42 would

I have ordered 38mm SS with Milanese loop. I have not seen or tried one on. I have very thin wrists and am just hoping the Milanese loop will be able to be tightened up sufficiently!

I own two 51-30. Love the ultra size faces. Hopefully the 42mm Apple Watch won't feel too small for me.

I've been casually wearing a Nixon Corporal recently which is 48mm, and when I tried on the SS with Link Bracelet it felt downright tiny and super light. If you're wearing a 51-30 the 42mm is going to feel really small.

Yeah I noticed that too. The free end of the strap was like a thin ribbon, and not particularly luxurious.

Overall, it wasn't the quality I'd expect from Apple at the price they're asking. It feels like its design wasn't done entirely in-house.

It really does feel outsourced. Maybe they wanted to keep the weight minimal, but they sacrificed something with that band.

Are your wrists smaller than the sizes they indicated?

Here's my 51-30 compared to the Apple Watch in case that helps.

Agree 1000%. I ordered a small stainless with black sport band, but I think I should have gone with the 42mm after trying it on. I also got my wife the pink leather band, but I don't think she'll like it once she tries it on. Definitely not like an ipad or macbook. In person try on is a must.

I strongly urge that if you're going to buy one of these things that you get yourself to an Apple Store asap and put one on.

Totally agree. I have preordered Apple watch SS 42 without seeing it and after 2 visits to Apple store including "try on" and digesting all reviews, i have canceled my order.

Is that a left-handed watch... how come the crown/knobs are on the wrong side??
Lol, looks like a kinda cool watch... I was just imagining how difficult it must be to use those. Are they mostly for show?

It's supposed to be a diving watch, so they put the crown on the opposite side to prevent them from getting caught up in a wet suit sleeve.

I would have loved to try before I buy but that is simply impossible, my local Apple store is fully booked and not free on the right days as I work hell of a lot... I've ordered the 38 SS brown modern buckle and I just pray that its alright for me! I'm not willing to change my order in any way as I have 12th May delivery slot!

I'm just posting here to say the Apple Watch sucks and I can't believe you all are getting it. It's dumb and won't replace my <insert expensive mechanical watch here>. You people just love Apple.

--- Hadn't seen that post yet, so I felt that I could get it over with for all of us. LOL

Seriously, here's my watch next to the SG Sport.
I agree that in person changes all perspective. It felt smaller on my wrist, but looked similar when laying next to my watch.

Just measured my wrist with a piece of wool and it is 127mm, so I should be OK with the Milanese loop?

You are under the minimum size.

For the 38mm Apple Watch with Milanese Loop, the band fits wrists from 130mm to 180mm.

You really *need* to try it on for yourself to make sure that it actually fits tight enough, and that it actually looks OK to you.

I tried the 42mm with Milanese Loop last Friday. The official range for that is 150mm to 200mm.

My wrist circumference is about 155mm, which puts me just above the 150mm minimum for the 42mm Apple Watch with Milanese Loop.

I had to have it at the maximum tightness.

Although it did fit, the loop had to go all the way round, with the magnet end by the other side of the watch case.

To me, it looked "wrong" because of that.

Yes, that is what is worrying me - that the loop will need to go too far round for the watch to look good. I will endeavour to get to an Apple store to try on.

I pre-ordered before I tried it. I figured if I didn't like it I'd just return it. Now I've tried it and I liked it anyway.

I pre ordered the space grey sport model then went to the apple store and tried about 3 or 4 models and man the ss looks so much better than the sport imo...the classic buckle and the leather loop looks and feels amazing, I'm still gonna stick with the sport because I'm buying the watch mainly for exercise purposes but for someone who's not gonna wear it to the gym then go with the ss models they really look and feel a lot better than the sport models.
