Haha that was exactly my thought. It you're going to the fashion week, at least try to look and pretend to be stylish. And go to the gym Jony!

Mind you there are some people that just aren’t tidy. My friend can get in the car and when he gets out his shirt is perfect. Me, I’ll try and keep still, lean off the seat but look like a crumpled magazine.

LOL he is getting fat again. Should have a "skinny" clause in his contract.
Not quite as ostentatiously as Eddy Cue as he is big guy by nature. And Schiller has always been on the round side (though I think it's bit better under control now).

To me this symbolizes they truly don't know where to market it and that Ive doesn't know how to dress appropriately for this market.

I can see the apple watch become reborn apples first real failure

Not sure about that. I think they’ll have trouble keeping up with demand. A lot of trouble.

My first thought when I looked at the watch photo, "I overslept!" The second was that the metal looks as if it was discolored by too much heat. Third was the size or scale looks oversized on that specific wrist.
It's funny, the Apple watch looks too big for me in most images but I wear a Suunto Core which is even bigger (and clearly identified as sports watch with its big LCD).

iOS7 design and now ... an "ensemble outfit" stolen off a 50's wise-guy ... Ive has got to go ....

Jonny impress us with a better ui design, one that takes longer than 5 minutes to design, otherwise move on

iOS7 was not their finest hour. Functionality was great but the looks, eeeuughh. Mind you it must be extremely hard to design an OS.

A bunch of grown up people, slightly on the elderly side, overly self important because of designing and selling some ridiculous expensive outfits for which 9 out of 10.000.000 people will bend themselves to be en vogue, wearing sunglasses inside a building.

All that just to have a look at a watch presented by an embarrassingly bad dressed and puffed up guy, which is not only pretty much obsolete as a device, but also rather ugly, fat and totally against any design principles, for which that manufacturing company normally stands for. A watch, which is supposed to be worn all day long, is fat a cheeseburger and a phone, which is inside a pocket, is waverthin to the pinnacle of be bend.

Yeah, that's quite the hype, man

Oh dear, Apple. What have you become. :(

Wish they would build an awesome X-Mac instead, upgradable with kick ass graphic cards, together with a bunch of new retina screens and professional software to match. Ok, share price would drop. But what the heck, man.

Weird. Apple used to project the young maverick company image fueled by creativity, passion and idealism. It's arrogance and narcissism, which were also always there but kept in check, are overwhelming those traits now.

Money hangs thickly around them in every image these days. It's unsettling.

Wow, listen to the pearls of wisdom from this expert.

I believe my life has value, and I don't want to waste it thinking about clothing. I don't want to think about what I will wear in the morning. Truly, can you imagine anything more boring than fashion? Professional sports, perhaps. Grown men swatting little balls, while the rest of the world pays money to applaud. But, on the whole, I find fashion even more tedious than sports.

Dressing well is a form of good manners.

P.S. You sound like boatloads of joy.

I won't be getting an iWatch, but I really hope it does well.

I'd be so happy if the prices of real luxury watches drop :D

The Apple Watch doesn't seem to have much to do with computing. Forgive my ignorance, but after reading about its functions, I still don't understand what it does.

I am as big as an Apple fan as they come, but this picture represents why so many people hate Apple (like many of my Samsung Galaxy loving friends).

It's not the products that they hate, it's the arrogance about how they present them, and this is a perfect example of that. Rich hob-snobbing fashion industry and high and mighty types flaunting a piece of jewelry as if it's the worlds greatest designed object. I mean LOOK AT THEM! It comes off very distasteful, especially for people who can't afford one (cue again many Android users).

This post may sound very anti-Apple, but it's not. I'm just looking at it from the perspective of a non-fan and how they may view something like this.

Apple is marketing to a very specific type of customer, and that's OK. But when it gets to the point when you start to alienate the general public, it can sometimes do more harm than good.

In my personal opinion, if what the above said has any basis in reality, then it is with your 'Samsung Galaxy loving friends' that the problem lies.

I see nothing arrogant in this picture. I see a bunch of people, albeit with some highly questionable wardrobe choices, mingling and posing for a picture. There is no flaunting, no 'distaste', no arrogance, and no jibe towards those from lower socioeconomic groups. That said, I'm observing a lot of judgement being applied from many people in this thread, yourself included. You, along with other posters, are making the assumption that because of their apparent wealth, these people have a somewhat maligned moral compass and willingness to belittle a significant proportion of the population. That very element of the population Apple hope to sell this watch to. It just doesn't add up.

It may be that I am now in the silent minority, where I approach things with an open mind and not apply judgement to people I do not know. Or it could be that people are resentful of something they just can't afford and decide to attack the people who can instead?

I'm aligning towards the latter.

Find it interesting how the whole world (on this forum :) ) is coming down on Jony Ive over this photo.

It's an ironic reminder that reality isn't perfect. Apple (better than most companies) is really good at painting an idealistic picture of the world with their products, where everything down to the last thing is thought about, planned out and under complete control. Yet the people behind the company, who create the mirage of the perfect world, which we all got to love, are after all just people like you and me. They get tired and look it, aren't always in perfect shape, don't always dress impeccably. And so on.

Considering this, I really like that picture, a lot. And Jony Ive, Sir, if you read this, so should you :)

Very well said. :)

The gold ones looked..uh... goldy ?? I hate gold watches, so I wouldn't know. And most people were admiring the metallic and plastic ones anyway.
One caveat though : Some fashion editor complained that it looked too masculine. I kinda agree. It did looked elegantly masculine, and even the smaller models with pink bracelets still looked somewhat masculine. I don't know how appealing it will look to women, but then again Im' not a woman, so what do I know?
EDIT :
a photo I took of my favorite model. It really looks better in real.

Thanks for the update from Paris!

Did they have the Rose Gold with Rose Gray leather on display? Did it look masculine enough where it could be work by a man as is? On the Apple Watch forum I've been discussing maybe doing a "mix-and-match" with one of the 38mm space black stainless steel bands since I like rose gold, but don't like the white sport band option. The rose gold Edition with rose gray leather has a black crown and so might match the stainless steel band a bit better. But if the rose gray is more subtle maybe I could pull it off.

Honestly I don't remember ... I do remember there were two gold models on display ( the big size ), but they had black bracelets. I also remember a small model with a Rose leather bracelet, but Im' not sure if that was a gold or metal model. That one looked the most feminine to me.

I think you're ( or others) reading waaaay too much in that photo. It's not like it's an official ad campaign for Apple's watch or anything like that. It's just a photo someone snapped and tweeted on his/her account. if you're an Apple representative and Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Wintour ( or any other so-called fashion icons ) came to the store to see your product , you're not going to brush them off. You're going to smile and politely shake hands and look happy into the camera. That's what everyone in business does. Smile and shake hands with powerful people that might help sell your product even if you think they're idiots. Even S.Jobs did it.

The photograph is symbolic.

It represents: Fashion Over Form

Which the iWatch will be.

An "innovation" too far, methinks :(

I appreciate your sentiment...
However, sadly- you're wrong.
Look: here's the thing- the 1st time I saw a "wearable" computing device was in the late 90's... It was in a Popular Electronics magazine. This guy had wired up a suit with a laptop, a camcorder, & a cellular modem. Think of it as a the first version of Google glass. He looked like a loon. Of course it did not take off at that time... However, Google glass seems to have garnered some interest... It's much more sleek & svelte... Essentially it does the same thing as Mr. Crazy Pants' did back in the the 90's, but now it's moderately more acceptable because it doesn't fly in the face of FASHION as much. Like it or not; that is the truth. Wearable computing IS the future. There can be no doubt. The one thing that is the most limiting factor (FAR more than just the technology), is whether population, as a whole, can be convinced to add a wearable computing accessory as an addendum to their current view of attire. I believe Apple has the best chance of making inroads in this particular area & thus pushing this wave of tech forward.

I don't party with the fashion crowd, but can someone explain to me why the hell apple cares to persuade these types to sell the watch?

I mean everyone knows apple, and I daresay half of the planet knows what apple watch is

So wtf cares what Chanel or lagerfeld says about apples fashion accessory?
Am I to believe that they need the blessing of vogue to sell to high end prince's?

It's really really REALLY sad that instead of commenting about the watch, a large number of people posting here can see fit only to criticize and slam Jony Ive and his physical appearance. Because you know, I'm SURE that every one of these people saying these things are the epitome of physical health and fitness, with ripped abs, and low BMI, and oh, yeah, they dress impeccably.

Either that or they are just insecure anti-apple trolls (insecure about both themselves AND the non apple devices they have purchased and the companies that made them?).

....OR....they are just...jerks.

It's called marketing, and positioning.
