Tech geeks are going to HATE that Apple understands a watch does NOT have to be just a toy for tech geeks to show each other. Even with a computer inside, it can still be a watch, in the watch market--and that means approaching it very differently from the geek toy market. Tech geeks will NOT grasp that approach. They care about specs, and Apple has given us none. They do NOT care about fashion marketing, which Apple realizes is vital. Why else sell high-end versions where most of the cost is the gold alone? They won't sell in volume. But without them, they won't be taken seriously by a market that geeks think should be ignored, but Apple knows cannot be--when it comes to something you wear. Mission accomplished: the fashion and watch worlds ARE taking the Apple Watch seriously, because Apple has chosen to take them seriously. I can't stand the fashion world--but I can see that it's a "necessary evil" here. Few tech companies would see that.

This is where Apple is succeeding. Marketing is everything for this product category. Samsung markets the Gear line for Galaxy owners. Moto360, do they even market it? Pebble just looks like a tamagotchi. Apple's success of this new device won't be with the tech genre, it will be with the fashion genre. They need to make it a must have device for non-tech people and non-fanboys. Its a reverse halo effect.
"I must have the apple watch, oh i need an iphone... wow this is great! Wow look at those ipads, i want one. Wait Apple makes computers too!!! Time to replace my old PC"

This is the plan. Proper placement of Apple Watch outside of the tech arena is what is gonna make or break it. All of us techies gasp at the idea of a $499 watch, but there is a whole market where watches cost upwards of $5000. Its a watch and it needs to compete in the watch marketplace, that is where the other manufacturers of smart watches are failing.

They're clearly not flying economy!

Health Alert!:

Health data from the sensors in your Apple Watch have been monitoring you for 30 days. Apple Watch concludes you should consider stopping smoking and stopping drinking beer. Thank you for your $349!

I found it amusing that the photo of someone with a beer in their hand a cigarette handing from their mouth was just above this threads title.

So am I going to get someone's Instagram account shut down (or at least gone private)? :p

Not sure if the cigarette or the watch makes him look like a bigger moron. Eh, let's call it a tie.

At this point is the watch even running real software? Or will they be using ones with a demo mode, like at the apple event?

EDIT: Oops....I guess I did make that happen. Not sure why MR had to post the photo on their front page with the name of the designer and his Instagram account. I never linked back to his account.

Nah, by the Colour of the Beer & shape of the glass I'd say that is a Belgium "Dubbel" or "Trippel" Beer. Fits with Apple's up-market style

And as "Dubbel" or "Trippel" Beers are Strong in Taste AND Alcohol content, the marketing line could be

"Appel Beer - It'll do the Job(s)"

Not a dubbel as they are much darker.
EDIT: The glass is Leffe-like

Because Apple, by and large, is considered a luxury brand. You can just as well wear a Casio and call people on a StarTAC phone. However, a watch IS a piece of jewelry generally. You're welcome to market your own offering at a lower price with the same functionality though!

Apple is not a luxury brand. It is a premium brand.

And Casio is cool.
