I have never ever seen anyone with a watch protector.

I was working with a company to test their cover. Nice little piece of protection... looked pretty nice, too... but the mechanism from holding in place was not particularly robust, and it popped off - I lost it. It was made of the same aramid fiber as their iPhone cases... was actually quite fond of it.

Had a clear case on for a week but took it off...just made the watch bulky. I do have a clear screen shield, however.

That’s the problem with so many cases. I don’t see the point of using them if they’re just gonna pop off. That’s why I think most cases suck.

This might sound strange, but I think part of that is due to ‘user error’. Some of these cases if they’re not installed properly, they don’t seat precisely around the display, causing Unevenness/pop-off. It’s also the same common issue with third-party iPhone cases with ‘hard shells’, if they don’t clip directly into place, they unsnap or come loose.

This was not user error... it was a design problem. I am working with the company to test their protypes... the problem was that the case could be easily dislodged when you put your hands in your pocket - it wold cause the friction fit to "ride up", and it was just a matter of time before it popped off and got lost.

I can kind of see that. But many pop off from impact. That’s unacceptable to me.

Didn't have one on my S2 and seemed to get away with it. What I did though was always keep one of those wrist bands you can get in sports stores nearby (I'm not a sporty person... I think tennis players use them?). I slipped the wrist band over it if I was doing something like reaching into tight holes pulling cables, making a mess of the garden, or out riding my scooter/bike/whatever.

Tempted to get a shell for the S5 just in case (I haven't had the best of luck recently, couple of years ago I somehow cracked the screen on my brand new MacBook Pro) but here's the thing.... the design is gorgeous, and the shells I could see on Amazon are not. They all make it look like the cheapest Mickey Mouse smartwatch from Aliexpress. If it's on my wrist I'd rather it looks nice!

Might get a film type screen protector (all the glass ones get mediocre reviews), or might just try not to knock it on stuff.

The casing will eventually wear on the ones that are colour anodised (e.g. space grey) if the laptops are anything to go by, but hey ho, watches get wear and tear. Could always put a case on it to cover it up ;)

Thanks for your reply, but at no point was my post indicating you whatsoever with ‘User error’. You chose to over-read into that.

I did not "over-read" that. My reply was to clarify. In some cases, with other products, I'm sure that "user error" plays a part - large or small.

In this case, however, it was as design issue, as confirmed by the company... when I reported it, they acknowledged that the have received other, similar reports from other testers.

@Relentless Power - Do you use a case? If so, which one?

I don’t. For the Series 3 models and under, I would recommend ‘Spigen’, reliable/lengthy track record with products, This is the most widely used one that I have read/found others experiences in the gym, etc.

Series 4/5 (44 MM), look at Elkson. Smaller brand company, but solid reviews across the board from Amazon. (Decently priced.)

I know, it’s a crazy world, right? I mean, those same people that attend gyms, work in the restaurant industry, construction, welders, actually use cases on their Apple Watch? It’s just unfathomable.😁
This but not sarcastic. Putting a case on a watch is just ridiculous.
