Apple Watch naked

I have never used a case on ANY of my smartwatches:

1. Original Galaxy Gear
2. Samsung Gear 2
3. Samsung Gear S
4. Motorola 360 1st generation
5. LG Watch Style
6. LG Watch Urbane
7. Asus ZenWatch (1st gen)
8. Samsung Gear S2
9. Samsung Gear S3 Classic
10. Samsung Gear Sport
11. Apple Watch Series 3
12. Apple Watch Series 5

Of all of them, the two Apple watches have held up the best. not a noticeable scratch or ding anywhere to be seen, unlike all those Samsung and Android Wear watches. I'm also just using the aluminum and Ion X glass versions.

I never even knew using a case on an AW was a thing until a month ago when I started looking in this forum. Never put a case on a Rolex so would never put it on a cheaper watch 🤣

Your example of putting a ‘case on a Rolex‘ was already posted from another member, and makes no sense. Reason being, Nobody would ever put a case on a Rolex, it’s construction with the amount of steel makes it completely unnecessary, plus Rolexes are some of the most aesthetic mechanical watches made in the world, which are meant to be shown off Given the unique identifiers with markings, gold, etc.

An Apple Watch Doesn’t even compare to a Rolex in terms of durability, and is far more susceptible being prone to inadvertent damage, which is why those cases exist in the first place.

I don’t use cases on my Apple Watch either, but they certainly have a place in existence, where they would not be necessary for a Rolex. Smart watches v.s. mechanical watches are not mutually exclusive in that regard.

Your logic was flawed earlier in the thread, and it still is now.

Simply, if you think people paying north of $5,000 for items like watches, no matter what they are made of aren't worried about getting scratches on their devices, no matter how small the scratch then you just haven't spent much time in watch forums like Rolex, PAM etc. If anything it's much more intense because of the cost involved, and not the materials.

People don't buy things, no matter what the cost expecting to drop it and dent or scratch it. Paying more for something with better materials doesn't mean you don't care about looking after that purchase.

If you've seen threads here by some people with micro scratches on the screen of their iPhone or Ipad etc, or their device is bent 1mm, of the colour is off it looks like under certain light - trust me - some people with expensive items are just the same or worse. Spend time in a Rolex forum with a thread about rehaut alignment, or scratches to the ceramic bezel, or is thir tritium not perfectly even on every marker since they are payng for perfection or their 'they thought' impervious 904 steel bracelet and you'll see it's no different than here (Well, it's more intense actually)

But - they're just watches.

It lookes like I forgot to put the 'I' in my original statement so let me correct that as it seems you took my statement that I was speaking for every Rolex owner when I am not, I was expressing why I would not put a case on my AW.

[Edit] I never put a case on a Rolex so would never put it on a cheaper watch 🤣

I’ve been a mechanical watch enthusiast for many years and have always enjoyed the patina look on dive watches to add character. I’ve never understood those on forums like WUS who obsess over tiny scratches and even less on here with Apple Watches. My boss has a Rolex Pepsi GMT Master II and he doesn’t give a toss if he bangs it against things. For a watch that’s probably only 5 years old, it’s got plenty of character and looks all the better for it IMO. An AW has such a short life span my philosophy is just enjoy wearing it and don’t get too absorbed in worrying about damaging it :)

I wear a X-Doria bumper on my S2 Nike+ because that’s the watch I use when I’m doing things that could damage a watch, but for my S4 SBSS I only have a LK dry install screen protector on it.

No case on my Apple Watch. iPhone yes. iPad yes. Apple Watch no. I never consider one. It seems fine and I mostly wear long sleeve top, shirt, hoodie etc so it well enough protected by long sleeve.

I have never ever seen anyone with a watch protector.

Then it’s obvious you never go to the gym. Frequently saw them all the time for weightlifters at the gym where they’re protecting the casing from having contact with machines/free-weights. Even the employees at Gyms have protective bumpers around the Apple Watch, because of how much they clean in close contact with the weights and machines, it’s the same concept.

I only have a case on my iPhone because being a 6s I worried about 'bendgate' still being a thing and also my left front pocket is vulnerable to large things banging into it (batteries from golf cars I work on mainly) and I didn't want it to be dented. I tend to keep whatever I buy and have zero intentions of replacing it for long periods of time so I like my stuff to last.

My iPad however is naked since it stays at home or in a laptop bag and is never being held over any hard floors only thick carpeting which would not damage it should it fall.

Closest my Watch came to being damaged was this last week at work. I slipped holding a wrench and my watch dinged a painted section of an engine. At first I thought I had finally scratched the aluminum and glass near the band, but after using some Goof Off and a microfiber cloth for a few minutes, it ended up just being some black paint from the engine. Seriously, Apple designed a great watch. My Gear S3 is dinged all over the metal parts but the glass is the only part that has yet to get scratched.

Am I the only one who never knew you could get a case for a watch?

I've met several Apple Watch owners who have said the same thing.

I've seen only a few cases that looked "cool" (G-shock like) but I can only imagine all the gunk that the case collects over time. I've only ever used my watch nekkid and make a point to clean it after every run (run it under water, use fingernail on outside of glass dial under, using soap on band every 2-3 runs) - etc.

I had the gear s2 for about 3 years, my 11 year old now wears it, it has had so many bangs and scrapes..

The number of blemishes on the watch. Absolute zero!! I'm gobsmacked how it's lasted so well....

I bought a case for mine for the rare occasion I would go out doing some serious rambling for the day. I haven’t used it yet but that’s the only occasion I could see myself using it. Probably won’t bother to be honest.

LOL that title had me going for a minute. No, I've never had a case on my Apple Watch. It's very durable in my experience.

Murphy's law kicks in and if I don't have a case on, I'll be bumping my watch into everything. It is like a magnet. I had that happen with a Fitbit and put a nice scratch in it. So no, I do not use my watch without a clear case on it.

No, it does Not. You’re merely assuming this without experience.
Man that’s rich coming from an S4 owner who takes every opportunity to tell the world that the S5 is an incremental update not worth buying because AOD, which you’ve never tried, isn’t worth it.
