Great! Hey Apple, how about standalone TIME SETTING?!? Like, letting users set the TIME on the WATCH, without the phone? I never understood why I cannot set the time, the core function that the device is named for, without the phone.

But, good job the "watch" can stream music on its own, just not set the time. That's some great engineering for you.

For the love of god...OFFLINE Playing is what people want. Why is this so hard to implement?

In other news, watchOS 7 now restricts storage available for media to just 8GB.

Gee, that's money well spent on 32 gigs of storage for sure.
lol, why they did this though? what else should ocupy the storage if not the media 🙄🙄

On my watch app now and works well! I still find it a frustratingly set up app but at least now I can leave my phone at home when our running/on my bike.

Shouldn’t the title rather be: ”Spotify now supports Apple Watch”
I doubt it. Spotify have supported Garmin watches for years with offline music, so it's unlikely they made a decision not to do the same on Apple watch. Much more likely is Apple abusing their position again and blocking the move either through API access or through trying to take a cut of Spotify revenue.

The article isn't about offline music, it is about ability to stream through the apple watch. Spotify has had opportunity to do this for a long time but have not released an app for it. You can't blame this on Apple with any degree of mental gymnastics.

For offline music I simply don't know if it is blocked or not. So I will not comment on that.

EDIT:// Apparently Pandora has been able to do offline music on Apple Watch for quiet a while, so again the issue isn't Apple but Spotify.

Spotify has started rolling out support for standalone streaming through the Spotify app for Apple Watch. With the new feature, Spotify users can listen to music or podcasts from Spotify over WiFi or cellular without having to have an iPhone nearby.

There has been a Spotify Apple Watch app available for the past few years, but the standalone streaming option is new. Spotify has been testing the feature for a few months, and prior to now, listening to Spotify required an iPhone even on Apple Watch models with standalone cellular connections.

Spotify Music can be streamed directly from the Apple Watch to Bluetooth headphones, which is ideal in situations where the iPhone isn't needed such as exercising.

The feature continues to be available in a beta capacity and is not available for all users at this time, but Spotify has confirmed that it is "rolling out" as of today. German site Macerkopf.de first spotted the change, which was confirmed by TechCrunch.

"We're focused on developing experiences that enable users to listen to Spotify wherever and whenever they want - regardless of the device or platform. After an initial testing period, we are now rolling out streaming capabilities for Spotify on the Apple Watch," a spokesperson told TechCrunch.
It may take some time for the new standalone streaming option to be available to all Apple Watch owners. The Spotify app can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

ok and what about Amazon music? Will this be finally added as an app to the Apple watch?

Hi, do you have cellular/LTE on your watch? If so would you recommend to a fellow outdoor runner?

The decisions on the AW have always been a bit weird... there's good reason why most apps for the AW are not working well or are extremely limited in their function (beyond the physical restrictions of the AW).
Apple prevented Spotify from implementing it for the longest time. It's part of the antitrust case in Europe against Apple.
Apple prevented a lot of things on the watch... until now it's not intended as a standalone device but as an annex to the iPhone. In that scenario there's only very little reason to have offline storage directly on the watch.

AW should be a standalone device... with all its consequences.
HomePod’s last beta supports Spotify and pandora natively...
Do you mind posting a screenshot?

Too late.

I moved to Apple Music several months ago and pretty happy so far!
I held out for several years because of old negative experience with iTunes Match, but tried again the newer version (iCloud Music Library) and it worked without a hitch!

What do you mean? That has always been possible …
Please educate me. Most of my mp3s are not released into streaming services. These are my students sampler sounds, or other educative materials . I wish I can put these on my watch on daily bases. This will make life much much easier.
