That sounds about right to be honest, but I have to laugh hard that Apple would ever think people are going to see it's Apple Watch in the same light as Omega or Breitling!!!

Erm, no Apple, just No. Just ditch the gold and stick to stainless steel...

THEN AGAIN...

People in this world ARE totally and utterly dumb and stupid enough to spend $48.5 MILLION on an iPhone:

Or why not get yourself an utter bargain of $300,000 Ear Pods:

So if people in this world are stupid enough to spend that much on gadgets, then I guess $4000 for an Apple Watch is peanuts?

Who would pay $5,000 for a watch that will be obsolete in 1 year when they launch Apple Watch 2? You can buy a real Swiss watch that will keep its value for life.

same here

I love Tag watches.

----------

The Rolex watch buyer knows his watch will maintain its value for decades. There something "timeless" about luxury watches. They don't go obsolete.

Smart watches will look dated in a couple of years.

It's timeless only because the people in the watch community decide that it be timeless, and the Rolex watch maintains its value insofar that there are people willing to pay for it.

The smart watch may be dated, but I believe the higher price tag will be mainly due to the more expensive materials used. The Apple Watch will likely still be worth something due to the materials used alone.

$5,000 Dollars? I Rather buy a Rolex. I can feel confident my Rolex will hold value in say the next 5-10 years,

NFW huh... With Apple's upgrade cycle and planned obsolescence your sunk investment will truly be sunk :( I love my Apple products, but a gold iWatch will probably not be one of them (will stick with my swiss timepieces, unlike Johnny I don't see the swiss watch industry as being f*cked :D)

Haha. $500 for stainless steel, no sapphire (if you buy sport edition), no GPS, no waterproofing, requires an iPhone and will be obsolete as soon as you open the box.

No thanks, I'd rather just buy a Seiko or Citizen.

No waterproof, no thanks.
I'll keep my Omega Seamster. I hope Nike/Apple come back with a fuel band that is waterproof and can be combine with any watch. That's what I am really looking for.

As others have said, the gold watch is for people who think $4,000 is chump change. It's not for someone who's thinking maybe they can spare $350 for the Sport.

I think $500 to start on the stainless is a good price point. I'm assuming the larger screen version will be $100 more (although I'd hope it's only $50 more), and the type of strap you choose will affect the price as well. So we're looking at $550-$600 on the larger screen stainless version. I could go for that.

That's a lot of money for a technological toy that will be outdated in about two years. The new cheapie iMac, the new mini and the Apple Watch, I don't know what happened to the company named Apple that I jumped to in 2008. So sad...

Only $4-5K? That's a steal! Imagine how you'll feel when version 2 comes out correcting everything that is wrong with version 1! And after a couple of years, toss it in the recycling bin.:eek:

I will wait until generation 2 when they cut the thickness in half like they did with the iPad. Or even with the iPhone, twice the speed, half the thickness, half the price or whatever they were saying back then.

Perhaps they could have made this version half the thickness has they dropped that stupid heart rate BS

"Hey there, wanna see my $4000 apple Watch?!"

"Woah, nice!"

"Yeah this thing has got everything!"

"Crazy! Can it track your runs with GPS, like every other smart watch out there, without having to strap an extra $600 iPhone to your arm?"

"Well, no..."

"Whomp, whomp..."

Good god those seem expensive. I can't even justify the $350 price tag for the Apple Watch Sport. $500 for stainless steel seems excessive to me too.

If you could melt down the gold from your obsolete Apple watch and and sell the ingot for $3500 then it will be worth it. Or perhaps if Apple offer an extraordinary trade-in price (will never happen) for second hand gold Apple watches.

$5,000 Dollars? I Rather buy a Rolex. I can feel confident my Rolex will hold value in say the next 5-10 years,

An iPhone 1 NIB is worth thousands of dollars. The value of a Rolex used is, well, do people actually buy used Rolexes? I see a lot for sale in pawn stores and eBay, but do people actually buy them? On eBay, it looks like 95% of the Rolexes don't sell - which to me means there's not really a good secondary market for them, at least at the 4 figure price and up.

IDK, maybe it's me but I rather spend $5k or more on a Omega Seamaster or Rolex that can last a lifetime than spend $500 on an AppleWatch that in two/three years will be obsolete.
Not being waterproof is a deal killer.
