I'm expecting to be disappointed by battery life. It needs to at least double to be competitive with a Garmin Venu, and there's no chance it will come close to matching a Fenix watch... unless they add the pogo pins like the iPad Pro (and original Apple watch), and then release a battery filled watch band. That would be a really nice surprise.
It will be a heck of a surprise when the watchband battery takes the wrong kind of hit and blows your hand off at the wrist. 💥

I wanted to buy one

Then I realized I would have to give up on all my straps I've collected over the years 🥲

Not necessarily. As the quoted „size“ only refers to the height of the Watch body, the existing straps may still fit. I mean, Apple went from 42 to 44 to 45 mm and all straps still fit; maybe they‘ll manage 47 mm as well.

Pro what? Definitely not pro athlete... we want a smaller thinner watch with less screen and maybe more buttons. as a triathlete i still have the series 3 because the other ones are too large. give me a smaller watch and i might upgrade. I dont want a bulky crap on my wrist that negatively impacts my performance.

Just a minuet! It's not "Pro" until you are bullet and bomb proof like this hunk of timekeeping. Imagine, deflecting all of those AK47 rounds AND IEDs shot and hurled at you by your imaginary enemies. Com'on Apple, a Pro watch needs to project a swashbuckling image like Garmin's...../S

exactly, this is crazy. why not offer it in the 41 and 45mm sizes? 47mm is borderline clown watch size
Yeah,I hate those

Kind of annoying that you have to get anything „Pro“ with Apple now, just to get the redesign, even if u won’t necessarily have the need for half those features
Maybe Apple is going to play the 'trickle down' game and will offer the smaller versions with new design next year.

47mm is too big for my dainty man wrists. 45mm is where it tops out for me I think.

Already jealous of the better battery life I'm sure it's gonna get.

I see the Apple Watch as a medical emergency device that can provide lots of other useful functions. The functions are tweaked annually. I have bought a silver colored aluminum base model annually since V2 and reuse a silver colored stainless steel Milanese band.

Looking closely at my 45mm S7, the curves in the fittings on the watch bands would probably not work if the 47mm has slab sides.

An aluminum in a silver color 45mm S8 could work for me as I would reuse my silver colored stainless steel Milanese band for a third year. If there are no "real" improvements in the base model, Apple looses my purchase for a later year.
