And shaving their armpits?

But he didn't, actually. He was just going through the motion, presumably because it's one of the movements people do in the shower that he could show on youtube. And I guess it's one that could put the watch more directly in the water's path at closer range (higher pressure)

My watch is certified watertight to 300 meters. I can't imagine personally going under water deeper than that.

Well not and returning again!

I can like and dislike various aspects of something.

eg: iPad2, I liked as an upgrade to iPad1, but iPad 2 had a joke of a 1 megapixel camera on the back, even worse than a childs toy so was disgusted by Apple fitting such an embarrassing part to the device.

Plenty not to like of what Apple does, but they can't make everybody happy. Also, plenty of things to like, to be fair!

We also rarely know what is happening behind the scenes and with parts availability.

I agree that the camera in the iPad is terrible, but the iPad is not meant to be a camera.

Say a new generation of cameras comes out with higher resolution etc. etc.

Until that generation is manufactured with decent yields and enough quantity available it takes a while. (Apple uses millions) There is no choice but to go with "last years model". (A little exaggerated) and keep selling.

Problem is that everybody thinks the latest and greatest is available immediately when they just read about it.

A hire wire act to have the latest asap and making it work money wise, supply chain etc.etc.

Oh yes, I accept there are not unlimted supplies of the latest and greatest.

For me, I'd be happy if a new iPad had the same camera and flash module as the previous years iPhone.
But we are not even up to THAT level, and unbelievably despite almost all cameras from childs toy ones, thru real film ones, thru compacts, instamatics and the whole range of digital from day one, it's still, in 2015 not got a flash unit.

Irrespective of anyones personal view about camera's and tablets, imho, there should always be a flash alongside it, cost of about 1 or 2 dollars max.
This planned and deliberate crippling for no good reason is the type of thing I find annoying

YES! This just made my freaking year! Swimming every day will be that much better =D =D

I would imagine that all Apple Watch models will be the same? Do you think it being a sport it would have more water resistance? Probably a stupid question, but I just want to be cautious since I have a SS edition.

Wow, I honestly have to give credit where credit is due. Apple got down with the Apple Watch and the new Macbook. I was blown away by this news and shocked at how small the s1 chip is. I am not interested in either products yet, but one cannot help but admire the engineering of these brilliant products. Great Job Apple....:):apple:

The hardware teams are doing a fantastic job at the moment. Shame the software side isn't doing as well over the last 12 months.

I have the same concerns and am frankly, disappointed that the watch isn't waterproof. I am an early adopter and will be getting my watch today. I would love to be able to wear my watch while running in the rain (I live in Portland, OR) and also in the shower. It's not that I want to use the watch in the shower, but I like to keep my watch on all day. Seems like this is a step backwards and while I also understand that this is a gen 1 device, it seems to me like it should have been waterproof even as a gen 1 device.

You can wear it in the rain without a second thought. The watch is rated to withstand up to 3 feet underwater for 30 minutes.

I often wear my watch in the shower, but I'm going to wait for some more data points before risking it!

What in the heck? Also I wish my tub was deep enough to cover an iMac!

honestly tho...I sure hope a at least 10m waterproof one comes out next year. That's what I am holding out for....

I had trouble focusing after he starting shaving his armpit. Is that what most guys do now?

I was disappointed to hear that the Apple Watch wasn't really warrantied for any significant water resistance. I'm glad to see that they were able to take it underwater, but as others have noted, we don't know (yet) if this watch is still functioning fine several hours later, and if it will be functioning fine next week. Water might have gotten in and not caused a problem *yet*.

And if you do get yours wet and it stops functioning, don't expect Apple to replace/fix it for free, because they specifically caution *against* submerging it or using it in the shower.

No way am I going to wear my Apple Watch while I'm in the shower, swimming or washing dishes. I'm not taking the chance.

How will they know?

Do they have a crystal ball in store to see how it happened?
Or do they just assume?

I thought the impressed surprise over the bucket test was weird enough, but okay. They also submerged it in a bigger bucket for 15 minutes. Still not stressing IPX7. If the watch had failed any of these tests it would have been closer to false advertising than 'underpromising'.

If it goes to a depth deeper than 1 meter and survives, they have under promised.

Finally an Apple Watch post that's actually about something we all do... take showers and get in a pool.

I agree with those that have stated they don't swim or take showers with a watch on. I usually don't either, but it's good to know that you can rinse a couple dishes and load the dishwasher without having to remove your watch first.

IPX7 is way enough for showers, my 3GS is rated for nothing (without a case) and I routinely have had it soaked for almost 5 years. There is something ridiculous about those worries when they're already been addressed countless times.

I do. Haven't taken my Rolex off for over a year (except to get through airport security).

That or to change the date, my Submariner has been on my wrist for the better part of 25 years. Only exception has been when it was sent off twice now for typical servicing.
