I'm the one who posted the article. It clearly states estimates....that is not actual sales. Many of us have not even been charged yet.
Assuming that Slice only tracked receipts rather than order confirmations, as implied in the OP, then their projections would be quite conservative, since they would necessarily omit orders with delivery confirmations beyond the 30-day window that would legally be allowed between charging and shipping.

I love the new Apple WATCH. It really is nice (no kidding).
It definitely is worth $99 and the 3 month wait.

I used a debit card but no money was taken. I was kinda surprised TBQH. My Retina MB purchase was charged right away.

Yeah I guess it will get charged on Monday then. Or maybe that rule has changed. (Or maybe you got lucky and you'll get it free)

It's an Apple product so a great opening weekend is expected. What remains to be seen is long term sales. Is this an iPhone which continues to gain in sales each revision or is this an iPad which already peaked and is in decline at this point?

I'm not trying to be negative, but it's hard to say if a product is a long term success by the opening weekend.

are you serious? my phone stays in my pocket, and a glance tells me everything I need to know. and, BTW, while it is limited by its age my iPad is still useful and appreciated. #

So where is everyone who was calling it a failure now? Hello? Where did you guys go?

Did Apple just sell more Watches then all other smartwatches combined in one day?

HI.

I'm still not really convinced.... Go on eBay, so many guys just buy it to resell it on eBay with 2-300 $ extra at least... And we'll I also realized thatvthere is a quite huge number of person that can buy a product without testing it before... That's just craziness or adoration to mother God Apple... It will be funny when people started to cry that they should have taken the other model or size... It is a daily use product so like shoes, you won't wear some that hurts you just because it is fashion or it get you free drinks by some guys/girls... But again I respect your choice but these numbers are nice I should admit and definitely interesting but can we wait to see how many customers will keep their watch and not return it or resell it... Honestly the Moto 360 with the second model approaching feels me more interesting than the apple one that again comes without a stand to charge... Apple will sell or for $$$ and that is the problem.... If you cumulate the price of iphone and watch then it is a crazy expensive thing....

Anyway let wait and see in few months when the second gen will come out :)

And how many Moto 360 units have sold total to date? And what about other Google Wear devices to date? I think I remember reading last that the Moto 360 has only sold a few hundred thousand units since it came out.

Wow! What did the iPhone sell like 10 million pre-orders? :D I think 1million+ is a pretty solid number for Apple.

That's the current iPhone, but this definitely beats the original iPhone preorders on 2007. …

Where are you guys getting the 10 million figure from? These are estimated figures for the first day or preorders, and only in the US. According to Apple, the iPhone 6 and 6 plus (combined) only topped 4 million on the first day, internationally.

That's less than a TINY amount (for Apple), but a HUGE amount for a gen 1 product with no track record. Well done Apple :)

Soft demand as I thought. I predict demand will soften more when the hype dies.

How is 1 million sales in one country in one day, a small amount? It rivals anything Apple has ever released, including the iPhone.

So where is everyone who was calling it a failure now? Hello? Where did you guys go?

I'll be the first to put my hand up and say I was wrong… if the actual sales figures are anywhere near this estimate. I don't think I ever said the watch would be a 'failure', but I did anticipate that sales would be 'modest'. I have no desire to buy one of these (and I have just about every other product Apple makes), but evidently a lot of other people do! So go ahead, enjoy your gloating.

Apples only problem with the watch is their supply chain.
They would have sold more - but there were clearly issues (out of Apple's control) that held production back. No doubt a lot of people held off when models are now shipping in July.
I am sure that this exceeds Apple's expectations as well. Judging from what I saw at the Apple Store in SF on Friday this is going to very popular christmas gift this year.

Expecting 5 million at least

These are estimates not including 8 other countries. Also does not include Gold watches which sold out. Margins on Gold are insane and can push ASP much higher with much fewer sales.
Rumor initial run is 5 million so I predict 2 million US and 3 millions rest of world with China HK Japan taking half of that.

Raymond James analyst so crazy to RAISE estimates but downgraded Apple based on "muted" reviews even though many reviewers said it was BEST smartwatch yet and would buy. Munster said sales would be flop cause supply constraints casting doubt on operations GENIUS TIm Cook. Now who has MUD on their faces! Apple making analysts look foolish for sure. When you are that wrong you have to be wondering if they should be managing other people's money.

Also watch success locks user into Apple ecosystem with iphone. And pushes more converts to iphone from android. More watches = More iphone sales!

I think Apple sold more than that , just a gut feeling.

As for this research, why would you let someone track your inbox for receipts?

iPhone sold 270k units on its release day.

iPad sold 300k units on its release day.

1mil units is "Soft demand" my ass.

It's relative. You think apple had the same customer base for those launches as it does now? How many units of iPhone 6 were sold on release date?

I'm not in the least bit mad... I'm just laughing at the absurdity of Apple Haters and the extremes they go to to trash success outside the Android World

I got the joke and thought it was funny. Our Costco in Kauai has a HUGE display of Android watches right at the entry. I did not think there were as many Android phones. No one is ever near it.

I am shocked at the haters here on the forum. I just cannot imagine spending so much time focused on something I am not interested in. I have even tried to stop responding to their nonsense trying to stir up issues where none exist. Someone will post a silly question and they pounce on it like we ALL want to do that stupid thing with the watch so it will fail. BAH. Happily many of the worst trolls seem to have gone away after the quick sellout on Friday.

Yeah, I think the issue is more on your age. Remember, this product is a gen 1. Its meant for the younger, early adopter, group.

You should follow MacRumors, and potentially buy the 4th or 5th generation. Usually the 60+ category is saving up for retirement, and shouldnt be too focused on the early tech releases.

I tried one on, just because I was stuck in a mall with an Apple Store yesterday. Came away decidedly unimpressed by the demo (they don't actually let you use it at all while it's on your wrist. Lame.)

iPad sold 1 million in one month, iPad 2 sold 2.4 million in one month. You really believe that Apple's customer base grew 2.4 fold in one year? No.

First gen products sell less.

Not to mention you cannot compare this to a phone. Not everyone wears a watch, but arguably everyone has a phone.

So, the band is really worth $2,250 of the WATCH you paid $17,000.
OK, so most likely the band won't fit on the WATCH 3rd Gen; therefore, you can only sell it to a gold dealer for 1/2 price ($1,125).
The WATCH 1st gen in 3 years, itself, $170 (who would pay more for an obsolete thing??).
You take a $15,700 haircut in 3 years + $1,360 in original sales tax, and THERE IT IS: a $17,060 LOSS.

Therefore, $170 is the salvage cost in 3 years.
Dude, you ain't got no $18,360 Rolex.
In 2018, all you got is a 3 year-old, 1st Gen Apple WATCH, one of 4 million, (with q battery going lame and a screen full of scratches).

You honestly think that someone who is able to pay 17K for a damn watch cares about its resale value?

Glad to see a strong debut.

But really wondering why anybody would allow anyone to scan their email inbox!

That was the first thing that came into my head. What is the incentive that would make a million people give away access to their email receipts.

Astounding.

There are some spam tracker software that accesses your inbox, reads all emails and decides what is spam and what isn't. I don't use one but I have some friends who do trust the developers of such software.
