First is predicting a flop. Then early success is always attributed to the fanbois, continued success is attributed to the stupidity of consumers. Then they buy one for themselves to find out what all the fuss is about, but complain about minor details somewhere on a forum. Finally they use the previously scorned product as an example of how Apple used to be innovative but has now lost its edge.

And the Apple hater cycle continues on.

Man, you are fine observer of the "human" psyche :). I call these haters (or maybe self-haters because like you said, eventually they buy the product they hate) "human", because I have too, not because I want to ;-).

It's an encouraging number but let's not forget that many people pre-ordered multiple Watches in order to secure their favs because they hadn't yet tried them.
With a limit of two per customer, you could cut the number sold in half—if everyone ordered two. Realistically, it's unlikely that more than 15% of customers had the discretionary income to buy two just to return one.

BTW, it's $17,000.
Why not use fake gold?

Those prices are Rolex territory.
I really don't see that WATCH re-selling for more than $170 in 3 years.

Dude really? Read the message first. It's the damn band...$7000? Wtf, Apple? Btw, Gold used in Apple watch was close to 1.5 Troy ounce, how the heck will 1.5 oz of gold be $170 in 3 years while it's almost $1500 now? Think a bit, would ya?

I think Apple could get away with keeping the iPad/Apple Watches around for a few cycles before releasing a new version. However they don't have to. It's up to the users to do the every few years cycle not Apple themselves.

Right. Apple should definitely go ahead and push the boundaries as often as they can. Otherwise how can I buy a watch with a battery life of 96 hours or more

So, the band is really worth $2,250 of the WATCH you paid $17,000.
OK, so most likely the band won't fit on the WATCH 3rd Gen; therefore, you can only sell it to a gold dealer for 1/2 price ($1,125).
The WATCH 1st gen in 3 years, itself, $170 (who would pay more for an obsolete thing??).
You take a $15,700 haircut in 3 years + $1,360 in original sales tax, and THERE IT IS: a $17,060 LOSS.

Therefore, $170 is the salvage cost in 3 years.
Dude, you ain't got no $18,360 Rolex.
In 2018, all you got is a 3 year-old, 1st Gen Apple WATCH, one of 4 million, (with q battery going lame and a screen full of scratches).

Not really because we don't know that to be true.

Sure we do. Pebble leads the pack in non-Apple smart watch sales. They've sold 1million - since they launched 2 years ago in 2013. Next up is Samsung, who have shipped (to retailers, not sold to actual customers) 800,000 units in the past 2 years, and sold an estimated 400,000-500,000 to customers. In two years...

No one has come remotely close to selling a million watches on opening day. Should go without saying, really... But there ya go. Google's your friend.

Ah, ha! I should have ordered the space gray 42mm Sport first, not the 38mm white Sport! The white is due upon release (ordered 12:10am) and the grey not until May 8 (12:14am). I wonder if the large slant to the black version was unexpected. I actually thought about the silver Sport with black band — but that's not an option. The pop to stainless — at nearly double the weight and the price — just wasn't worth it.

Just because your not sure why you bought the Apple watch doesn't mean you need to bash Android and everyone else who didn't buy one.

Seriously though, who made you mad?

Actually, to be fair.... you seem mad here.

And you are right, only when people buy and Android running product, they are sure why they bough it

I am interested to see how fast they will be shipping them out. The inital batch having a two week window is interesting for an Apple release. The fact that they are now saying June shipping will mean that they are being very cautious with their release dates or they simply don't plan to produce them at the same speed as something like an iPhone.

I think they expected the demand to be geared towards the white and black sport choices based off price. I personally prefer the look of the regular watch, but being a first gen product wasn't willing to drop the extra few hundred dollars just for the stainless steel. I feel like they also heavily advertised the Milanese loop so I am sure they expected a demand there too.

I'm the one who posted the article. It clearly states estimates....that is not actual sales. Many of us have not even been charged yet.

The iPad would be the sole exception there. I remember just about everyone going head over heels for it. Moreso even than the iPhone, which was generally well liked among reviewers.

And the first gen MBA? It was deserving of skepticism, since it got so hot, it could fuse your legs together.

I recall differently. Everyone ridiculed the iPad when it first came out and said it was just a big iPhone. It was deemed a failure pretty widely, but everyone was buying it. It was an absolute sleeper.

They could have literally released a shiny turd for sale, and they'd have sold a large # of them.

Untrue. They already tried that with a number of products, including the Apple III, Pippin, Cube, Xserve, iPod-Hi-Fi and others. Apple did NOT sell a large # of them, not anywhere near 1M units. I don't know anyone who actually purchased any one of those products, deluded fan-boy/girl or not.

Don't forget the first MacBook Air....or any MacBook for that matter.

so 1M for US only...i guess another 1M for the rest of the world.....so 2M for a brand new category is big...
i think 2014 the other smartwatches combined sold 700.000 units

Ok, fair enough... But still, even with those "estimates" - which are, by the way, U.S. sales only - does anyone really think that some other smart watch manufacturer comes remotely close in total sales to what Apple most likely sold in one day or weekend?

Right on the money! :apple:

Most won't be charged for a while either. Apple doesn't charge your card until the item is shipped (Unless you use a debit card, in which case they have to, to secure the sale. If you use a credit card, no money taken until they ship)

I used a debit card but no money was taken. I was kinda surprised TBQH. My Retina MB purchase was charged right away.

Although impressive, I expected at least as much. Several people are ordering more than 1.

Indeed, half of them will probably end up on eBay.

The problem is that it's been on the decline ever since.
