I'm curious why you feel this way. For me my phone does everything I need whilst I'm out of the house. Isn't the watch just a phone with a tiny screen, no keyboard, and few apps? What am I missing?

For me, my Apple Watch lets me perform certain tasks more conveniently than if I had to fish out my iPhone for it.

For example, I now use Apple Pay from my watch to pay for bus and subway rides. I have used Siri from it for quick queries and calculations as well (eg: “What’s 80% of $69 to find the final price of a piece of clothing). The Siri watch face puts my calendar on my wrist, giving me my day’s schedule at a glance. It’s also handy for quickly accessing the passwords for my various accounts from the 1Password app, controlling music playback, and a few other quick actions here and there. And of course, being able to see which notifications merit taking out my phone to respond to and which don’t.

It’s essentially a nice extension to my phone.

That's exactly it, no More no less. I own a very nice smartwatch, i use it for notifications from any messaging apps, an alarm on the morning, and ..er... telling the time.. and that's it. It has a myriad of functions, all lessened somewhat by the small screen size, so i use what it's good at, and ignore the others... to each their own tho....

Of course one should own both as the sum of the parts is greater than the whole. A lesson android should learn.

No.

That is an horrible idea if other manufacturers star forcing you to by their stuff locking you down to their hardware.

How weird? The Apple trade in value gives you an idea how much on true cost to them.
Cost and value often don't match. The used price of an Apple Watch reflects the value buyers attribute to it (of course also modulated by the number of used Apple Watches that are available for purchase). Apple's trade-in price is largely set such that Apple can sell it on the used market with a (small) profit. It is thus reflects the value of a used Apple Watch.

Thinking that it (the trade-in price) indicates the production cost of an Apple Watch assumes that Apple would sell new Watches as used/refurbished (and thus sees the trade-in program and their own production chain as two alternative sources for their 'refurbished program'). But I really don't think Apple is feeding new Watches into its refurbished channel in any significant numbers (returns, trade-ins, and surplus stock when new models are released are feeding that channel). Therefore the trade-in price is really about value and not cost.

One could argue that the Apple Watch works as well as it does precisely because it is so integrated with the apple ecosystem.

Did they factor in those return after 14 days!!??
Totally irrelevant

I was massively skeptical about the AW when it was first released but they definitely improved it over the years and I can’t imagine not having my series 4. It really is a brilliant device and turns exercise into a game rather than a chore.
I was skeptical too, but today I can’t stay without my series 5 (I owned everyone except series 2).
apple watch and AirPods are just the best products I bought in the last ten years.

I can see myself getting one in the next year or two. Would be nice for Apple to come out with a native sleep tracking app, but it's all good (is a comparatively minor quibble)
There are many third party apps for that.

A Rolex keeps its functionality and value for decades. An Apple Watch for months.

They compete for space on your wrist, but one is an investment and the other is disposable.
It’s fascinating to watch an hater’s behavior on the forum. Really fascinating.

that is the first thing I switched off on my series 5.
i tried it for a couple days and then decided it was a waste of battery life.
different tastes.
Since I got a replacement battery life been good. Be better off having a S4 if you don’t use AOD

AW needs a redesign overhaul and the faux leather band looks embarrassingly cheap. It would have closer to 73% YoY growth if it looked more like this.

There’s probably a very good reason Apple Watch doesn’t look like that. That reason could be a rectangular screen is better for displaying information, similar to a computer screen.

Why are you pretending that design has overtaken the market? AW has the dominant marketshare and actually gained more in marketshare than any other competitor. Samsung's YoY growth is a third of Apple's in number of units sold.

The iWatch is pure garbage because it's a rectangle. Watches are round. Common sense. Putting function over form. Typical garbage Apple.
Watches are round, wearable computing devices not necessarily so. The Apple Watch isn't mainly a watch anymore in a similar way as the iPhone isn't mainly a phone anymore.

What makes you think that's better? Because you like it?

The classic fail argument is saying something that is incredibly successful in reality would be more successful in theory if it only had some arbitrary design/functionality changes suggested by the person making the argument. That's silly.

You literally have no way of knowing how well the image would sell and zero reason to question the strategy for wearables by Apple. They are doing fantastic without your sage advice.
