Indeed there is. It's called paying for the repair.

Yes, it could be that. Or anywhere from $0 to $329.

Apple sets those prices.

It's a man made price.

Ask the man to consider the circumstances.

People do and Apple wants to delight.

Thanks, guys! This is all very helpful. I will definitely talk to my cc and see if there is anything they can do. Then I will talk to Apple genius as well. One thing about paying $329 for the repair... I don't know if that's a good route because I can't get Apple care for this watch anymore, and I am pretty sure I will drop this watch at some point again no matter how careful I try to be (too many hard surfaces in the house). I am almost thinking maybe just apply epoxy on the screen and wait for the next gen apple watch. Again thanks for all your inputs. I will try and post my outcome here.

As I said, using any third party repairer will likely void the Apple warranty in respect of any future issues. Stick with Apple.

They're not mutually exclusive. If the OP goes to Apple for the repair - currently the only option - the credit card company would still have to pay. This and warranty extensions are just two of the reasons I use Amex whenever I can, but they're not the only card to provide this type of coverage.

Yes, I did. Looks like Amex charged on 4/23. Is that good?

Yes! You are within 10 days of the 90 day limit. Go to the Amex web site and read about how to file a claim.

(That's assuming that your type of Amex card provides this coverage. I'm not sure that all do, since Amex offers so many varieties these days. I hope that you qualify, though.)

Awesome! Amex says I can file a claim online, and they will review it and let me know in 7-14 days. Fingers crossed. Thanks!

I've used this benefit several times over the years, most recently when Amex paid to have my damaged eyeglasses replaced. I've never had a problem and would be very surprised if Amex denied your claim. Now, aren't you glad you didn't wait another 10 days to post? :)

I know that. I didn't say that they were. I was talking about Apple vs a third party undertaking the repair.

OK, I guess I misunderstood your post. I completely agree that if there were a choice between Apple and other repair services, Apple would be preferable. Of course, in this case the point is moot since there are no other options. Anyway, I'm pleased that it's worked out for the OP, who will likely have the repair covered by Amex.

Amex will reimburse you the $329. However, you can ask the Apple Store if they're willing to allow you to add AC+ when you get the replacement Watch. A manager can make an exception and allow you to do this. A good backup plan given that you won't have Amex protection on the replacement Watch.

That's an excellent suggestion. I will be sure to ask when I bring my watch in for repair. Thank you.

:) Yes, very glad. I thought for sure I was out of luck this time.

@egghead6398 just so you know, you are able to buy applecare+ at the time of a incident. So after you pay the 329, ask if you can add applecare plus, and they can. This will give you 2 more chances to shatter the screen and lay $59 to replace it. Apple has been allowing "one time applecare+ purchase during incident" since it was announced. You only find out about this when you are at the genius bar

It's not Insurance. It's Apple care +

Big difference

In Europe, the accidental damage component of AppleCare+ cover is indeed provided via an insurance policy by AIG Europe Ltd.

"Thank you for buying AppleCare+, an insurance policy underwritten by AIG Europe Limited (“AIG”) who agrees to insure Your iPhone, iPad, iPod, Apple Watch or Apple Watch Sport according to the terms and conditions contained in this Policy."

. Does anyone know of alternative (affordable) route to Apple's screen replacement?

Thanks in advance.

Doesn't ifixit.com have a Teardown walk through on it yet? They usually sell replacement parts on them as well.

The Rub is its really brand new and the parts are pretty high all around. After about 6-12 months China kicks in with cheaper options

When I checked yesterday, the only replacement part they had available was the battery.

Apparently it can shatter even if it's only from 2.5ft drop to bathroom tiles. .
This just in water is wet, more at 1100.
Glad, after reading all the other posts, you may be taken care of.
So anyway, yeah it wouldn't be fully on point to do this, but it is hardly a big moral failing either.
As others have said... that line of thinking shows a HUGE lack of moral character. SO the next time someone rips you off use your same argument why you shouldn't be upset with them for doing it.

So I went and talked to the genius today. He told me I can't buy Applecare+ after the initial 60 days. He wasn't 100% sure, so he asked another genius too. I will probably ask again when I go back to pick up my watch (I was told in 5-7 days). I have to say my experience at the apple store today wasn't great. I made a reservation for 4:15PM but had to wait around for almost an hour, then I got stuck with a newbie who never handled watch before so he had to constantly stop to ask around.
