Hypertension notifications = instant buy. This is what I was waiting for.
I don't get these comments. If people are enthused enough by this feature, you should be going to see your Dr. every year who will have a much better idea if you are developing hypertension than a watch.

I mean its a nice feature for passive warning, but seriously.

Or just get a good cuff blood pressure monitor. They are all pretty reasonably priced.

Stop calling it Series 11. The fact they stopped rebranding the S6 to S11, but sticked with S10 shows its basically a Series 9 in a new casing.

I hope the new sleep features means that Apple's sleep tracking has improved and is easier to use. For those of use using the watch to help us manage sleep disorders, the Apple Watch sleep console experience is hot garbage.

Yay for the improved battery life though. I might have gone with an S11 instead of the Ultra2 if this were out when I needed an upgrade.
100% agree on the apple watch sleep tracking experience being trash. Even the simplest things like the sleep alarm are poorly setup.

The sleep alarm isn’t locked behind the sleep screen so I routinely accidentally turn it off in my sleep because it inadvertently gets taps off through the bed sheets.

Sleep score coming to older devices
Oddly they got that correctly but list wrist flick as being only on the S11 even though I’m using it on my series 9.

As of September 9, 2025, hypertension notifications are currently under FDA review and expected to be cleared this month, with availability on Apple Watch Series 9 and later and Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later. The feature is not intended for use by people under 22 years old, those who have been previously diagnosed with hypertension, or pregnant persons.

I was in the same boat last year and got the AW10 Ti and it's so much thinner that the Ultra 2 I was looking at. Yes same price but so glad I went with AW10. The fast charging makes the battery life a null point as well. Get up have a shower and put the watch on charge.
Thanks for the feedback. I'd really like to give sleep tracking a go and an Ultra will likely be far too big, especially as I wasn't entirely comfortable doing it with a Series 4. A AW11 Ti will be a better bet on that front. But regardless of that, I'm not an extreme sportsperson - I go out for the occasional run (5K or 10K usually) so a bog standard AW will be fine for that.

My only other thought while weighing up the Ultra or not question is longevity. My Series 4 battery was OK for 3 or 4 years before I started noticing issues and eventually I had to stop using it for runs. Spending this amount of cash on a watch means I genuinely don't want to upgrade it very often (that's why I'm still on a S4), so an AWU3 could give me very many years of active use - potentially considerably more than a standard AW?

It really is not. It is quietly the biggest Apple Watch update since the S5 or S6. The good news is that we could finally see a new processor next year.

Hmm, I can see hypertension being Watch 11 only, but sleep score? Seriously, older apple watches can't do that?

It will depend on the internal chip, but those with older devices (such as the Ultra 2) WILL get Sleep Score per Apple’s comparison page.

No mention of the hypertension notifications, but it should be available to older devices too.

We can hope, or this 10 is being gifted to my son, lol.

They were vague, which makes me think it is coming to older models but they don’t want to admit it.
Per Apple — “Sleep score is available with watchOS 26 for Apple Watch Series 6 or later, Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) or later, and all Apple Watch Ultra models, paired with iPhone 11 or later, running iOS 26.”

Apple today announced the Apple Watch Series 11, featuring hypertension detection, Sleep Score, 5G connectivity, and more.

The Apple Watch Series 11 features improved Ion-X front crystal with 2x better scratch resistance thanks to a new Apple-designed ceramic coating that hardens the surface. Titanium models continue to feature sapphire front crystal.

The Apple Watch Series 11 features the same S10 chip as the Series 10, but 5G connectivity is available on cellular models for the first time, delivering faster connectivity with greater throughput. A redesigned cellular antenna covers mode bands and simultaneously engages the two system antennas when needed, significantly increasing the signal strength, especially in areas with weak coverage.

The Apple Watch Series 11 offers 24 hours of battery life, a significant increase over the 18 hours of previous generations. It also supports fast charging, with just 15 minutes providing up to eight hours of battery life.

Hypertension detection will notify you if the Apple Watch detects signals of high blood pressure over time. Apple says it won't detect all instances of hypertension, but it expect to notify more than 1 million people of unknown hypertension in the first year. Apple is expecting approval from the FDA and other regulators.

The system uses data from the optical heart sensor to analyze how a user's blood vessels respond to the beats of the heart. The algorithm works passively in the background reviewing data over 30-day periods.

A new "Sleep Score" feature provides insights into sleep quality at a glance, helping users to aim for a more restorative sleep. It is determined by sleep duration, bedtime consistency, how often you wake up, and how long you spend in each sleep stage. Sleep Score provides a clear breakdown of the most critical components of a sleep, so users know what to prioritize to improve.

The Apple Watch Series 11 continues to be available in 42mm and 46mm casing sizes, and with both Wi-Fi only and cellular-enabled models. Aluminum models are available in Jet Black, Silver, Rose Gold, and Space Gray, while polished titanium cases come in Natural, Gold, and Slate. Prices continue to start at $399 and pre-orders begin today, with launch on Friday, September 19.

Clearance for hypertension notifications from the FDA and other regulators is expected soon, and the feature will be available in more than 150 countries and regions — including the U.S. and the EU — this month.

Hypertension notifications will be available on Apple Watch Series 9 and later, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later, with watchOS 26.
