I wish they added more sensors for fitness (i'm not a fitness person)
The only real thing that excites me is the waterproofing. I forgot to take off my watch and went frolicking in the spitting fountains in millennium park in Chicago this summer and i was soaked to say the least and my watch kept on clicking, for me that's enough waterproofing.

For reference I was that kid :p

As someone in the top comments pointed out, us 1st generationers now have an Apple Watch 0.
0 meaning O. And O = obsolete. :(

Not necessarily. As a first Gen Stainless owner, it's looks exactly the same as the Series 2. Although the Series 2 has added features, the Gen 1 Watch will be suitable for quite some time.

Still not as game changing a product as the original iPod was.

Hindsight is always so easy, isn't it?

It took a few generations for the iPod to become a major success. It was trashed by many spectators and journalists when it came out, and didn't start selling big for years.

The Apple Watch is actually doing really well right now. The first gen sold twice as many in the first year as the original iPhone. It's already the second highest revenue watch brand in the world behind Rolex.

My Apple Watch 1, very useable and productive on a daily basis. The new software will make it even more so. I would not go that far and say the Apple Watch 1 is useless. However, upgrades can be very aluring.

Apple Watch for fitness? It will never be great for fitness because the heart rate sensor is on the back of the watch instead of built into the watch band. Fashion, not functionality, dominates its design.

"Apple: Decisions by Ive. Because engineers and physiologists aren't the boss of you!"

Nice imagery, but don't communicate the actual benefit of the product... the communication is dumb; for example: Second 43 of the ad: She has a watch (gives the time) that gives access to the calendar and still, she needs a SMS to know she is late...?

And where's the iPhone that provides the mobile signal to have access to the network?

Obsolete? Hardly. And mine certainly isn't. Works just as well, even better now with the new OS, as when i bought it.

Who still use a pocketwatch in the 21st century?

Regardless of your thoughts towards smart watches, most fashion conscious people wear watches. Almost everyone I know has watches they wear for different occasions. I have different kinds myself. It's fashion more than practicality. I personally think smart watches will never look as good as a top analogue watch

Do you own one and have first hand experience to offer?

Because mine is certainly "great for fitness." Heart rate sensor works in a variety of situations and is accurate compared to other heart monitoring systems I've tested it against. The other health/exercise features I rely on everyday.

And it's certainly functional providing useful information; fitness related data, emails, messages, reminders, calendar events, time and date, navigation, answering phone calls, etc

Tell me about your personal experiences...

From a fitness point of view, it does have the waterproof feature that the fitbit surge does not have. So that's good. Apple's watch also looks better too.

Not sure it's worth twice the price though.

Mmmm. Good timekeeping. A fantastic feature for a ... watch. And when it comes to keeping time, Apple Watch does that. Apple Watch 2 does that as well. Back of the net! :apple:

It's actually a fantastic feature for a watch.

Normal watches don't do time keeping right, most watches don't adjust for the 29th of Februrary, most watches don't adjust for fluctuations in their internal crystal, most watches don't have GPS to adjust themselves to the timezone they are in, and are incapable of displaying other timezones, most watches don't show the alignment of the planets, most watches can't do stopwatch and time and alarm.

The first gen is already waterproof (except Apple didn't market it); people have been swimming with it for 18 months.

As usual marketing is everything.
The fact that every time Apple releases something new (iPhone, iPad, Mac Pro, Apple Watch, ...whatever...) they tend to make sure supply is <50% of probable revenue the first 2 - 4 weeks, they create the buzz they hope for on the web.
The usual nonsense of someone who has no clue how a business or marketing actually works; good work...

Apple is finally back on track with their ads. If the image is great, words are unnecessary.
Agreed. The 2013 ads "[Photos/Music/FaceTime] Every Day" were near damn perfect, except for the end narration.

Who still needs wrist watch in the 21st century?

Probably the same people that think the early-2000's idea of having a proprietary audio connector on a phone is a good idea.

I can see the pull of a fitness band though.

I think the ad convinced me not to get an Apple Watch. That lady floating in the water was so relaxed and stress-free, before she was abruptly interrupted by her watch telling her "You're late!!!!".

Screw that. Sometimes I think we have too much electronics in our lives. It's good to disconnect once in a while.
