I have a feeling that is the delay. It seems the stainless steel models are shipping faster.
I don't know if that's even a hard rule. I've ordered what I assume is the most popular 42mm SS model with white sport band on 17th sept. A friend ordered his 42mm silver aluminum w/white sport band on 21st. He already received his a few days ago, mine's still processing.

I ordered silver aluminum with woven on the 19th...not a single bit of movement. Still states 4 wks and an end of October delivery. That doesn't even match up anymore, but nothing has changed unfortunately.
Ordered 42mm space gray aluminum on 19 Sept. No movement. Still shows 18 - 31 Oct delivery window. I've checked Apple stores, other retail, and online ever since I ordered and haven't found one. If I had, I definitely would have cancelled already.
I ordered my SS 42 mm (black) with the Milanese Loop on 2 Oct 2016. The email I received from Apple shows that it will be delivered between 31 Oct 2016 - 7 Nov 2016. Let's see when it shows up.
Wow, I'm really surprised seeing the "3-4 weeks" or "pickup Nov. 16" on the Apple site. I ordered from T-Mobile yesterday and it shipped today. Might have it later today or tomorrow. They have the silver or the space gray series 2 in stock. Not the gold or rose gold though.
I ordered my black stainless steel watch on the same day, but with a sport band. So in theory they should ship around the same timeframe if they really do them im order. Got a delivery date of 1 - 7 Nov.

the waiting sucks! I got a bit excited when my expected delivery of early November Shipped on 10th. But it has been held up in Shanghai, Pudong since then.
Just rang courier after apple message said 'Unable to complete deliver - contact Carrier for new delivery appointment.
They admitted it is still in Asia 3 days later with unknown delivery date.

Found it in stock at Best Buy online last night. Should be here in two days! I didn't check other case/band combos, but it may be worth a look for those still waiting.
I was about to order the 42mm gold Series 2. 3-4 weeks wait is so off puttingim in the UK, not sure where else I'd get one.

Waited for reviews before ordering a S2 stainless with white sport band (S0 owner so already have plenty of bands), finally ordered online on Sept. 28th for delivery to my local Apple Store with indicated availability of Nov. 2nd.
Credit card charged on Oct. 10th and order status indicates it'll be "available" tomorrow. Early! Psyched.

Well this supports my theory that the aluminum watches seem to be in shorter supply since people who ordered before September 28th have not seen any movement.
