No one is going to FaceTime their friends and family with their wrists hanging in the air or have their arm relaxed down by their waist with the camera pointed up their nose to capture 4K video of boogers and hair.

No FaceTime camera.

You can take that statement almost word for word, and you'd find similar criticisms of the iPhone before it added the front facing camera.

A watch that can't tell the time for 24 hours....that's a funny joke.

How is it that the huawei watch 2 4g lasts 48 hours with an always on display (i have one...and it really does)? I don't understand why the battery life in this is so bad? I really want to love it, but i just cant accept this.

Still waiting for the day where Apple releases an always on black and white mode. I hate the idea that we have to flick our wrist to see time. Though I wonder if the HR sensor has been improved since you can now use it while surfing?

Battery life is a huge issue. I want LTE more for independent data use than cellphone calls, but 1 hour is miniscule. Makes me slam the brakes on an otherwise easy decision to get one.

This is nothing new though. Battery life has always been the only real limitation on portable computers.

[Red Dot]Want to know that too.
Is it just because you can show-off the fact you own the cellular one...? That would be cheap...

The red dot looks like another attempt at aping the look of classic Leica cameras that Jony is enamoured with.

I'd like a watch, but mine will get a dot of silver testors paint over the red.

I guess if you want to talk longer than that it could be a problem. It's a limit.

I guess to solve it, you could buy 2 Apple watches, one for each wrist.

I'm getting one for my business line, and the other one for personal calls. :)

You could carry a 7000 mAh USB "power bank" together with the Apple Watch magnetic induction USB charge cord. Run the cord down your arm and tape it in place. Now you can charge the Apple Watch while it's on your wrist and talk for hours and hours that way. :)
No. You can't. It takes longer to charge than you have talktime from a full charge. So no solution.

Apologies if already been mentioned, but just noticed on apple website, there is also 2 key differences (for me anyway) between the GPS, & GPS with Cellular.
GPS only has composite back & 8gb storage, whilst GPS with Cellular has ceramic back with 16gb storage.
I've noticed that too. They are forcing customers to buy higher end models to earn more money. In my country they also removed stainless steel and ceramic version presumably because they didn't reach the deal with our mobile carriers. It's insane you are limited to aluminium model if you choose to go without cellular.

I'm really keen to finally get one, but the more generations stick to the original design, the greater the chance it will be outdated soon.

As for LTE, I think it's great, but assume Series 4 will be more mature for sure.

The Series 3 is finally starting to look useful for me, but current battery state is nowhere near good enough. What is the point of cramming all these wireless features, especially LTE, if it won't last? Make it truly last a full day, and I'll buy one.

I'm not planning to get this watch - I'll stick with my Series 1.

I've got to say, though, that demo was a little impressive. Not the fact that she was calling from the middle of the lake, but - the lady's watch picked up her voice really well, considering it's relative position as she paddled. Maybe all the watches can do that... but I still tend to hold mine up to my face (on the rare occasions) when I talk into it. I'll have to stop doing that, and see how well the microphone works.

I'm sticking with series 1 as well, since watchOS 4 runs fine on it.

When I take phone calls on the watch I usually keep it close to my face because I want to listen clearly, but people never complain about my voice so I guess the mic works fine.
The ability to listen to Siri is good, now you have to look at the display but a voice feedback is always good.
For what concern LTE it is something I'm interested in, but I'll wait. In my country we don't have it available at launch, and I want to find out what deals Apple will strike with carriers. Maybe next year I'll buy it, and the price difference is not huge with the wi-fi only model so I'd take the LTE one even if I didn't plan to use it immediately. Better have the option to add a data plan in the future than not having it

You're going to need an Apple Watch that lasts a lot longer than 1 hour talk time for it to replace your phone.

Are you? I have never needed to take an hour call on my iPhone when out and about in 10 years of owning one.

Anyone making a long phone call is not going to want to be talking into their wrist either.

I think LTE is meant to be used only during a workout, so you can receive a quick call or make an emergency one, or you can receive notifications while running but you're not supposed to stay a full day without your iPhone.
I guess we'll get close to that in the future, but they'd need to improve battery life a lot.
LTE is a nice addition, as GPS was last year, give them time and the Watch will be even more independent by the phone

I’m still not sold on these devices needing LTE, especially when it’s a separate data plan. I wish Apple would have replaced series 1 with series 2 in the lineup but Apple’s not in to good deals these days.

I think even the most optimistic of us knew the talk time would be very small. I think its still a great watch, and as an emergency device to call when your phone is around, would work really nice.

I still have my original apple watch and its still going strong, battery still lasting really well. But as they say, the battery life is highly dependant on usage. I find it as a watch with addiitonal benefit of maps, timer, sms function and such, it has been the best watch ive ever owned in terms of utility. Ill be using this watch hopefully another two years, after which i think it will have been really really good value. I just hope watch OS 4 doesnt slow it down or eat into battery in any significant way.

You were never going to be full Dick Tracy with this watch. LTE is there for keeping in touch with notifications if your phone is in your gym locker or left at home while out on a run, and for occasional voice calls if needed - for a couple of mins.

Go in with reasonable expectations and the LTE model is a nice addition. But considering those limitations, it is really not acceptable for operators to charge more on your plan for it.

so it‘s got about between a quarter and half the battery-life it‘d need to be a standalone device - that‘s quite some way to go. i wonder how long it‘ll take until i can finally ditch the phone and just wear a watch (and use an ipad or ar-glasses for anything dependent in visual information)
[doublepost=1505296411][/doublepost]
This is so off it's not even funny. Well in my opinion anyway. Have you SEEN the way people in our culture walk around staring at their cell phones like zombies? Nobody wants to give that up to "hear" their twitter feed or just wait until they're near an iPad. It just won't work like that. And the market decides the tech we get.

What's more likely is that augmented reality will be the paradigm shift we've been waiting our entire lives for. Through glasses or contact lenses or whatever, you will see your content whenever you want in a fantastic new way. We are starting small with ar on iPhone as a "building from the ground up" kinda thing to set up a good foundation for content and get everybody used to it. But apple will undoubtedly release something you wear that let's you literally see the world through augumented reality. See your driving directions. See information about people. Browse the web through a graphic on your eyes that can be the equivalent to a movie screen. Any size you want

while that‘d be sweet, i‘m not sure this will happen anytime soon. AR needs light to display things, so any glasses you wear will obscure your eyes - it‘s like wearing headphones while interacting with other people only 100 times more irritating (you don‘t convey meaning with your ears). until it‘s a projection or an implant (expensive contacts are nothing for the mass market), it won‘t find a broad adaption, even with todays phone zombies partly going in that direction. i for one am near an ipad 99% of the time (it fits snugly in my man-purse or even a coat-pocket) and despise interacting with a tiny phone-screen. so i‘d welcome a watch that‘s more capable. twitter works fine on the small screen btw., i use it on the watch way more often than on the phone.

this is not a phone. its for the very urgent call you need to take. i repeat: this is not a phone.

It doesn't need to be a phone. It also acts independently away from the iPhone for messages and streaming music with the Airpods. Those are other advantages.

Me thinks.

1. The user scenario with the LTE Watch is for example going to the club, bar, going out jogging or other places and situations where you don't feel like carrying a big phone with you. But still wants to be reachable or that you can interact with 'the outside world' with sms, talk etc. You will typically be away around 5-6 hours and you are not far away from home. Thus you do not need more battery.

2. I have waited for this and will by it. Will make my watch more complete and I will use it more. A perfect combo also with iPhone Plus since you only use it when you are at home, in the office or on a trip.

Apple did a great job on this Watch

They succeeded where Samsung and others failed.

But this battery life is a showstopper for me. cellular is a nice to have.

The app,e Watch is about fitness. The more focused Apple gets around that, the better the product will be.
where samsung fail?

where did the iWatch 2 disappeared from Apple website? I am not super impressed with iWatch 3 (because i will not use it as cell phone for sure) so wanted to see if there is any price drop for iWatch 2 but ... no version 2 anymore...
