Keep your eyes on Series 2 clearance at BestBuy once the Series 3 is unveiled.

Then again, me thinks Apple might keep the Series 2 around. Still, they might drop it to $299 and slide in the Series 3 starting at $399

Here's what I don't understand about the whole LTE thing: Will only built-in apps be able to use it? I thought all the third party apps are loaded from the iPhone—at least partially? Or are they 100% running on the Watch now? Otherwise we'll still need an iPhone.

I put a hairline crack down the right side of my Apple Watch SS 42mm Series 0 the evening of the election. It was not a good night by any means. I was thinking about upgrading, but not if they don't speed along the hardware some more. It would be great to get Bluetooth 5 for faster data transfer from the iPhone. Otherwise I can probably get by as the crack is small and luckily doesn't cross the display itself. But I worry about it getting worse, especially if I hit it against something again (it was just my refrigerator door handle while walking through the kitchen), and I have to be more careful around water now. It sucks, because I was going to keep this watch forever since it was the original.

I'd only consider an LTE plan for the Apple Watch if I can add it to my family unlimited plan for free or only $5/mo. Anything more than that is not worth it. I can add an iPad for $10/mo and that thing uses tons of data. How much data could it really use before dying? I had a mostly charged iPhone 6s get stuck in a loop with iCloud once and it downloaded just over 12GB over LTE before it died completely, and that took it less than 45 minutes. Hope this Watch has a good battery or a really efficient LTE chip!

Probably just as confusing as those really confusing iPad or iPhone lines..

To be fair here the Apple product line up until now was getting out of hand. The ipad lineup especially but they are streamlining it. Knocking off the Airs and bringing in the new ipad that is a rehash...basically an updated Air in a pro shell. Much better lineup now with only three choices for the devices. within that are the storage models.

Cellular connection is interesting. Great when you are working out and don't have your iPhone nearby but seriously there is no way I am paying an additional cell plan to use this. Enough is enough.

I'm curious to know what a series 3 watch will have for features. I almost pulled the trigger on a series 2 watch a little while ago, but it didn't have enough features to upgrade from my series 0 watch

Watch OS2/3 and the Series 1 apple watch work smoothly enough together that I do not see myself upgrading for a couple of years. I also primarily use my watch for notifications and as activity tracker, so there is that too ... for others may have a reason to upgrade.

Just wait until the iPhone 7s/7s Plus comes out along side the iPhone X/Edition/Pro/8. Do I buy last years iPhone 7s or this years iPhone 8 ? Wait, no. Do I buy this years iPhone 7s or next years iPhone 8. Wait, no. Never mind. I'll get a Pixel.

You're making it sound more complicated than it is. If you wrote the process for ordering a Mcdonalds in that style you could fill a 2000 word essay.

Your choices are:

- Model
- Screen Size
- Capacity
- Colour

It's not complicated at all.

Again?? Loving the Nike Series 2. Secretly hoping this is a minor spec update so us Series 2 owners can hold off. No LTE for me, I'm good as is.

If you are good as-is then why would you care if Apple releases a more advanced AW? Why would you secretly be hoping Apple holds back technology -- actually not hold back... more like try to make up ground.

Exactly...people don't want more plans to pay. When I first got my series 2 I loved it and then I got my first bill after having the watch and saw double data usage because the apps were running in the background. I had to disable that feature. The bill is lower now but also my apps now have to LOAD and it bogs down the watch and lessens the user experience. Kinda sucks. I love my watch though don't get me wrong

I'm very much looking forward to this release with interest. I would welcome cellular capability for those times when I want to leave the house without my phone. Implementation is critical though for me. It would need to use some form of virtual SIM tied to the SIM in my phone. I'm not taking out an additional cell contract. I don't believe Apple would be so silly anyway, but we shall see.

Question to the community:

Is it possible to have the cellular LTE capabilities supplied only via a wrist band solution? Through the diagnostic port?

I'm not concerned about the chip location, size of housing etc, just can the diagnostic port communicate with the necessary on-watch hardware to achieve this.

In my mind, this would be the most intelligent way of implementing this feature as you could add it at will depending on whether you need that connectivity or would prefer better battery life.

Of course, the LTE watch band could include additional battery as well.

Gotta say, the Series 1 & 2 feel significantly faster than the original. Considering how in tune their division is that is working on all these SoCs, I'd imagine a decent speed improvement again for this year.

Regarding apps on the watch, I feel like they made some significant changes last year to how they work. When the watch is out of range of the phone but connected to wifi, it still works quite well (though most of my use is with built in apps). Testing out a few 3rd party apps while the phone is in airplane mode, they don't seem to be able to load. That's a good thought and could possibly be something that changes in OS4 (if it hasn't already?)

Selfishly, because I don't want to sink money in to a 3rd AW! If they come out with amazing new features then I'm the type of person who will want to buy it. If the update is minimal then it's easier to feel better about keeping the one I have. That's kinda how I approach all Apple products, and the same reason why I haven't bought an iPad Pro since the Air 2 works for me.

Not a chance I'd buy a separate plan for the watch, that's crazy! Not planning on buying anymore Apple Watches until I see some customization changes. Most personal device per Apple and you can't even customize the face properly.. no app store to purchase faces.. there's so much you could do with this device but they only focus on hardware these days.. software is 2nd rate across the board.

It's usually a $10 add on to your cellular plan that feeds off the data plan you have. AT&T setup the Samsung LTE watches where the SIM card was assigned to the same phone number as your cellphone so both would be triggered by text messages and phone calls.

What obsession? It being spoken about as a possible OPTIONAL feature in a future watch is an obsession? If a future watch has cellular no one will be forcing you to use it.

I say that because so many new smart watches these days are coming out with LTE shoehorned in. I realize you aren't forced to use it, but just being there results in higher cost for the product, less battery life, and a chunkier watch. Even the original watch is already hugely chunky and ugly. Absolutely nothing needs to be done to exacerbate that situation.

I'd bet that it'll be similar to Series 1 and 2. Likely be able to choose a model without it if you really don't want it.

And since it'll likely be used the way GPS currently is (only when necessary), it'll have a negligible effect on battery life.

Considering you think the watch is "hugely chunky and ugly" (quite a subjective opinion if I've ever seen one) I assume you don't currently own one?

How is it any different than the evolution of the iPhone? Each generation has improvements and Apple will drop the oldest, leaving generally two or three models to choose from.

lol go look at the iPad lineup or even the iPhone lineup. You just oversimplified it..... I wouldn't be surprised if there are 30 different configurations available for the iPad. iPhone isn't as bad but its getting there.

If it's not thinner I'm not buying it. If this is going to be the same model we've had for 3 years now.... I don't know what they're doing anymore...

Genuinely curious, what kind of update would you like to see happen with the Watch?

I have a Series 0 stainless steel. It's just flat ugly. If your point of comparison is a Casio digital or something, I guess it could be considered nice? The other timepieces I have to compare this to are Movados, and aside from some functionality, there's not much contest there.

I don't know if they can go much thinner without having to adjust the wristbands. And if they do that, people will go nuts.

Ooh the excitement builds ... imagine all the watchbands that will be introduced as well.
