I’ll certainly be getting one when I can order it. Been wanting an :apple:watch for a while and this will help. Won’t need my phone when going on a run straight off the bat. $10 a month is not a big deal. Already pay heaps for the phones et al so this is cents...

Pity this site has gone through and made it so that I was not surprised by anything. Just nodding and saying “Yep, I knew that.” but, at least I watched it and got to abuse Philastine Schnillerhead.

Serious question, do you take your phone with you right now when you run? I couldn't imagine taking calls and trying to respond to text messages when I'm out running. This is why the series 3 doesn't do anything for me that my series 2 doesn't. My workouts are the only times when I'm wearing my watch but don't have access to my phone. People have been screaming for this feature for a while though so I'm sure there's a market for it.

I think this is a big enough upgrade for me to replace my 1st gen watch. Mines been getting awfully slow in the past couple of months, the battery no longer gets me through a full day, and its scuffed all over from over 2 years of hard service. I dont think ill get the LTE model though as its rare that im without my phone. I wonder since the LTE model gets the same battery life as the previous models that the non-LTE model will get better life due to the lack of radios.

Is anyone else contemplating using the watch as a replacement for the iPhone? I've removed safari, youtube, and other video apps off of my phone (I've found I pursue entertainment more intentionally now and I waste less time). Phone, Messages, GPS, Amazon Music, and a run app meets 95% of my needs. Will that be an option, if not now, in the future?

you need to scribble in the email AND password. it took me two minutes to type a full sentence in the messages app using scribble. wonder how you're going to scribble in a lowercase o and capital O in the password.
Well 1 it’s a one off, I’m sure that there could be other methods. Plus, I use scribble all the time and am quite fast on it. Try and loosen up with your scribble and youll type a lot faster.

This might be picky, but I really do not like the red dot on the Digital Crown. Looks cheap and distracting in pictures (as in it draws my eye to the red dot and not the overall watch). I wish they had not done that.

It doubles as detonator :)

so could you use the Series 3 to play a podcast or music from your wrist without headphones since siri can talk to you now??

Just my opinion--this is the first wearables device that has reached the purchase-and-keep tipping point for me. I will buy it, and use it day-to-day. I am not hugely into wearing watches (I have a couple of very nice pieces that are more jewelry than anything else, and only wear them when in rare situations), so this is a big step for me. I tried out the original and Series 2, but just did not feel like I would use them enough.

I am already in the Apple ecosystem. I am one that *really* wants cellular connection. I do not like wearing my phone in the gym or on a run, and I like Apple Music enough to keep up the subscription. Some of the possibilities with Stanford and heart and glucose monitoring are really interesting. Near enough $500 for a wearables device that I'll probably want to upgrade in two years seems like a lot . . . and it may be in absolute value terms. But roughly $20/month does not seem so bad, and that assumes the value goes to zero of that period of time.

Of course I have accepted that Apple is going to **** me in the wallet but good late Dec/early Jan with the iMac Pro. So I come to the Watch from that perspective, too.

Like others I would buy this in a heartbeat if the LTE charge wasn't straight up robbery.

After 3 years of data and the cost of the watch I'm looking at $360 data plus taxes plus a $500 watch pluS taxes = close to $1000.

$1000 to use a watch for 3 years!

It looks like they've discontinued the Stainless Steel version for the 3?

Nope, it's still there. Whew. But only the LTE version has SS, bummer.

The biggest question is: can it get any bigger or uglier on the wrist?

Yes. If you eat a lot less.

WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THE RED DOT? I can't imagine anyone shelling out for the Apple Watch in White Ceramic with that thing tarnishing it's "simplicity". What the heck other Apple product has ever had a useless design element like this other than the hideous U2 iPod?

Literally the most useful thing announced today. Odd skepticism

I’m also happy with the Apple TV and having my HD media upgraded to 4K.

I think the carriers are taking advantage, but over 3 years at $5, it would still be $820 by your calculations. Maybe its possible to offset the cost by trying to picking a cheaper data plan for the phone?

A huge thanks to anyone who answers this question!

Can the Apple Watch 3 roam overseas with the iPhone? I'm using T-Mobile and they offer unlimited text and data (at capped speeds) overseas.

The only thing that is really needed to setup is signing into iCloud account. Scribble and voice could work just fine and once it’s signed into your account all your WiFi passwords could sync.

also you wouldn't be able to setup Apple Pay unless you scribble them in manually
