Managed to pickup a S3 LTE from Nike for £209 knowing that there was a new one round the corner. At that price, I can't imagine the S4 will bring anything new that would make me disappointed. The only thing I hope for is Vodafone supporting the e-SIM rather than EE only in the UK.

When did you manage to nab one of those.. I'd like to grab one for myself at that price

If they drop the non-gps models then the electronic wizardry inside will be the same across all the models which means a more a cost effective production for Apple doesn't it

EDITED post:

I originally thought that this meant that we weren't getting an Edition watch this year.

However, maybe this just means that the LTE watch isn't launching in Eurasia.

It's important to remember that the LTE watches are only in a few countries right now - either Apple hasn't got the Carrier deals or there is (usually authoritarian/repressive) government concern about their citizens walking around with watches with LTE capability.

In that case, the x6 models make sense:

  • x2 aluminium (38 & 42) non LTE
  • x2 steel (38 & 42) non LTE
  • x2 ceramic (38 & 42) non LTE

Wednesday last week. There was a short period of time that the Nike website was allowing you to use discount codes on Apple watches. They had them on sale at £299 (which is a decent price), but there was a code for an additional 30% off sale items that shouldn't have worked on the Apple watch but did.

As long as I can buy one without being forced to activate it, I agree 100%. I refuse to pay my carrier more money for data I've already purchased once. I could probably swallow a one-time activation fee if I had to though.
Right. I think that is the way it works. You can buy the cellular but do not have to activate it. I heard people were doing that with S3 watches because the cellular you got more storage. Anyway I am with AT&T and no way would I pay $10 more a month since I always have both phone and watch with me 99% of the time anyway.

Still got my Series 0 - and desperate to replace it. The Series 4 can't come soon enough.

I had my series 0 until May this year when it did decide to die. And I know why..... because I have used while swimming and many times forgot to take it off when showering at the gym. Just surprised it toke this long time to be damaged by a water. I have the series 3 since May and the difference on speed is huge. And series 4 will just be better.

Nice try but the display clearly has less bezels than the older models. That is a very nice change.
Was going to say the same thing. It's not significant but welcome. Every small bit helps on the Watch. I'm glad I waited until now to upgrade my Series 0. It is going to be quite a significant jump!
[doublepost=1534779926][/doublepost]What if they actually get rid of stainless steel and replace it with ceramic in white and black? Maybe bump the price of that range $50-100 to make up for it and have it be more of a mainstream, yet premium device? Perhaps they ran the numbers and figured they could make more money in volume by bringing the ceramic mainstream? I could see them doing that and only make this model feature the larger display with the smaller bezel, while the Sport remains the same display size with the larger bezel and the cheaper material. It would be an Apple Watch X: smaller bezel, premium materials. A black ceramic model would look really sharp. Or even like a dark gray. I'd buy the crap out of that!

I see some people saying they might finally get an Apple Watch because the bezels are supposed to be thinner. Really? That’s the reason you haven’t previously owned an Apple Watch? I’m honestly never looking at my Watch long enough to notice the bezels. Same thing with always on display. Fine if Apple can do it but I’m not staring at my wrist most of the time. If I need to see the display I just flick my wrist. Of course I didn’t previously wear a watch. Maybe it’s just mechanical watch wearers who miss this?

This is an area where I really wish Apple would offer OS licenses to third-party builders. They SUCK at making attractive watches. I bought my son a Huawei Watch 2 last Christmas to go with his Android phone and it made me jealous.

What exactly is attractive about those watches? Or is it just the fact they’re trying to look like typical mechanical watches? Round vs rounded rec is completely subjective.

Except all those who don't need/want the additional cost of adding an LTE device to their cellphone bill.
Some people don't want an extra device attached to their cell bill. I have read around the macrumors foums and find there is more people that pay for the cell model that have wound up deactiviating it from their plan becuase they never use the feature.
Do you have to activate it?

You can't just glance at your Apple Watch because the screen is usually blank. Gets a bit frustrating after wearing a traditional watch for almost 50 years.
Exactly my point. For people who didn’t previously wear a watch I think it’s a non-issue. I’d also argue Apple isn’t really targeting watch wearers with Apple Watch. And probably why they didn’t design a watch that looked like a mechanical watch. I’m sure Apple knows they’re not going to get many traditional watch enthusiasts to ditch their mechanical watch for an Apple Watch.

It's looking like Series 4 will be the Stainless and Ceramic option at the higher price point, and Apple keeping Series 3 for the lower cost aluminum option.

Agreed. Supporting EE only in the UK is annoying. I'm also on O2 and would love to see support for the other major networks here.

Same here. I have a Series 2 and skipped the latest cellular model because I'm on Three - as soon as it works with them I would definitely upgrade to the 4. I have a great deal with Three and a home signal box (wifi calling is flaky for me) so have no interest in moving carrier unfortunately.

See the extra screen isn't much of a selling feature for me as the current 42 works just fine for what I use it for, I don't really do much with the AW besides asking siri to lock or unlock my door, turn on or off the lights and to see who just texted me, calling me, or who just emailed my work email... but all the texting or emailing viewing is done on the computer or phone. But an option to turn the screen on would be awesome for when I workout.

Sticking with my solid gold series 0. It doesn't actually work any more, but then, that's not why I got it.

With Wi-Fi network selection coming to the UI in watchOS 5, cellular is going to be an even tougher sell on Apple Watch. In three years, I can count on one hand the number of times I could’ve used/noticed that my Apple Watch was without Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. Even among those times, it was often at work for a couple minutes when I left my phone at my desk and came back within minutes.

It’s just not worth $10/mo unless you regularly plan to leave your phone behind for a significant amount of time every week. I know carriers want their cut of the action, but I already pay for multiple devices to be on a shared data pool and I honestly can’t see a watch consuming enough data to warrant any fee more than $2/mo.

Just to make the point that style and choice are a individual thing- I would not have any of those watches, In my mind everyone of them is ugly.

Announced either September 5th (Wednesday after US Labor Day) or Tuesday the 11th. I don't get the article's guess at Wednesday the 12th.
Chance of Tuesday the 11th = ZERO. That day belongs to something else now.

I have the series 3, not sure if I will upgrade to the series 4 yet. Have a new iPhone X Plus and iPad Pro purchase also, might hold off here until some deals come.
I have sold my Series 3, cuz I think Series 4 will worth it, mostly because of the updated design.

I saw some opinions that Apple my drop the non-cellular model with Series 4, but I don't think that's going to happen, because if they do it, they'll have to sell the cellular model at the same price as the non-cellular, which probably won't happen. And this is because not all carriers support the Apple Watch, nor all people will want to pay extra for the Apple Watch plan add-on. So there's no point in dropping the non-cellular model, as this will lead to a price increase for something, which many people won't be taking an advantage of. I don't think Apple would do that, especially with a relatively new product.

I’ll hold off selling my Apple Watch 3, if the big selling feature of the 4 is the .25” larger screen, EKG that requires you to pinch the watch frame and a faster chip, I’ll hold off. For me to upgrade it’s really going to come down to this new health sensor, .25” of screen size isn’t really a big deal to me.

I can' t see them dropping the edition, the profit margins on those must be high, I could see them dropping the GPS only watches though.

That's my hope anyway as I was planning on upgrading my SS Series 2 to a white ceramic edition series 4.
