And to proof that, you linked me an article at Macrumors? A mean - I like this website, but it's not like I am visiting it every day and read every article. Don't you think it would be nice if Apple mention at conference that ECG is limited to USA only and they work with other countries to provide this feature? After a presentation I was so much like "I go for it". If I didn't check Apple website before purchase, I wouldn't even notice before take it in my hands :/

$400/730 days = $0.54/day
The device will not be obsolete in two years. Apple Watch was introduced in 2015, 3 years ago and it still retains the very same functionalities for which people bought it, which would bring it to $0.36/day.
I also expect the AW to last longer and longer as the iPhone.
It’s up to you to decide based on its functionalities which will be available for years if it’s worth $0.54/day or less.

My series 0 used to be able to run third party apps. Now it can’t. It just hangs forever until I get tired of waiting and cancel. So it doesn’t have the same functionalities as when I bought it (I actually own three, one was provided by Apple as a development device).

You can’t really fault apple for third party apps. While it sucks - and it does sucks - I am pretty sure that you can’t install many new things on older hardware. This has been true since day 1 of microcomputing. It still doesn’t make the hw obsolete. There’s a world of difference between not supported and obsolete.

I literally cannot get a single third party app to launch. Not one. On any of the three watches. I don’t fault Apple, but I don’t blame the developers, either. The S0 is just to weak to get the job done, given changes in how Apple Watch apples are written now vs then. Back then they always ran on the phone and were essentially projected onto the watch. That way the dopey little processor could keep up.

Well, it’s a first gen device which usually means that it’s going to suck quite quickly compared to the following generations. I wasn’t sold on the S0 to be honest. Actually not even the S2. I was sold on the AW when I got the S3 for my wife (LTE functionality was key). Even then, you would admit that 50 cents a day for a device that is on your wrist 15-20 hours a day and monitors your body while giving you messages, phone calls, etc. is not that bad. Just 5-10 years ago it was sci-fi!

Really?, a no-brainer? I cant find anything this does that's worth £430
Can't you say that about almost all expensive watches? At least the Apple Watch does things other than give you the time.

And it's a no brainer if you were looking to upgrade from a Series 0 or 1, not necessarily a no brainer if you were looking to get the Apple Watch, but it's probably the best time.

I'm just glad I'm getting AW4 Nike+ rather then getting Stainless Steel which is over priced in my humble opinion.

Mine shipped today. I have the Series 0 and have been happy with it. Nothing until now compelled me to upgrade, although the Series 3 came close with the LTE capability. The Series 4 made it a “no brainer” for me. I picked one up for my wife as well. It will be her first Apple Watch. We’ll see how she likes it.

I too am on series 0 watch and foolishly ordered my series 4 from B&H to limit paying on taxes. I am trading in the series 0 to Bestbuy for $55 which isn't too bad for a watch that is no longer getting updates. I also still have the receipt for the series 0 and it rang up to the tune of $399. So for anyone saying the new watches are expensive I think they are on par if not cheaper in relative terms than the original watch.

They mentioned this in the presentation around 0:26:50

Nice. I can’t wait until Friday.
As for automatic workout detection, I was nicely surprised when my series 3 nudged me today noticing that I was on a treadmill and asking if I wanted to track it. So that’s a nice new feature in Watch OS 5

To be fair, my Series 0 runs fine. Never had any bother with slowness. The battery is getting on a bit but the new watches still don't have very good battery life so it's hardly worth paying £400 for a new watch with only slightly better battery life.

Do you use it for exercise? When I click Workout on my series 0 it often takes a good 10 seconds before the watch is responsive and I can scroll to select/begin workout. When ending a workout, clicking the stop action is slow, 5 second or so pause before I can scroll to the final screen and click done.

Since I workout on average 5 times per week that's the most annoying constant thing for me.

Some other annoyances:

When I get a text and scroll to click to Dismiss. The ui is sometimes initially laggy and unresponsive. When this first started happening probably a year ago I'd end up sending a wrong canned message by mistake instead of hitting dismiss. I anticipate the slowness now so it's just something I learned to deal with, although this doesn't happen every time. Maybe a couple times per day at most.

Sometimes when you press the digital crown to get to the list of apps it's unresponsive so you press the crown for a second time. Eventually it'll go into the list of apps then back to the main screen. Technically you pressed the button twice so it's as it should be, but the reason for the 2nd press was after waiting it seemed as if the first didn't register.

The workout app issue. Those that I know with a series 0 have the same problem. My wife has a series 3 and doesn't experience any of my problems.

I've restored the watch, closed all apps, etc.. Although as I know several people that experience many of the same issues I didn't expect any of the things I tried to resolve anything.

Battery life has never been a problem for me. I typically charge it after I workout and I'm getting ready. Beyond that I seldom need to recharge other than at night.

A no brainer for me is to upgrade when the product doesnt work anymore or there is a significant update, none of these apply.Series 1 is working great ,the problem is the corrosion on the back of the watch.
Have to thank apple for that.
What a great way for your product to alter in time....like a piece of jewel...less than two years time and 380€ spend.
A no brainer would be to either fix the corrosion issue or replace the watch.

Battery life continues to be the only thing stopping me from purchasing. If some form of integrated solar and/or kinetic charging solution get's included to increase the time between charges then I'll be in. Though I suspect the engineering and practicality challenges to bring this about are extreme. I live in hope.

I’d like to see battery life lasting as long as Fitbits do. Series 3 here

I am still sporting a series 0 so I'm hoping this will feel like a pretty substantial upgrade.
Probably night and day. Even the jump from S2 to S3 (where Apple claimed a 70% performance increase) was quite noticeable - and S2 was already running circles around S0.

Definitely not worth upgrade from series 3. Maybe in a few years.
Twice as fast, bigger display w/ higher resolution, redesigned back, louder speaker, better battery time (+1 hr during workout/GPS/music streaming according to Apple's own specs), better silicon ... - makes it a solid upgrade in my book. YMMV ofc.

Series 1 = Series 0 or vice versa?
Series 1 == Series 0, but with a DualCore CPU. Series 2 == Series 1, but with brighter display and a couple of other improvements. Series 1 & 2 were released in parallel.

I’ve never owned a smartwatch, and I initially found the concept ridiculous, but they’re looking more appealing by the year. Apple is probably doing the most convincing job of anyone on the market.

I’m just hoping the Series 4 is a preview of sorts of what to expect from next year’s iPhone—a great new redesign, solid new features, and new technology.

Looking forward to the upgrade from my Series 0. Use it daily for workouts and notifications mostly. Been a huge fan of it for those things.

Generally I workout first thing in the morning for an hour then charge it back to 100% while I shower. Then it's good for the rest of the day and a 2nd workout in the afternoon (another 1-3 hour workout usually). It would seem most of those that complain about battery life have never used an Apple Watch. Much the way before it was first released people complained about the battery, only to get it and realize that it did in fact last all day.

For those quoting $400, are you planning to throw your old Watch in the trash? Even a Series 0 SS is worth over $100 used...

That's if you're upgrading. You have to realize that the vast majority of people don't have an Apple Watch.

I have never owned an Apple Watch and have always been fairly happy with the $30 digital Timex, yet I ordered mine yesterday. I am 65 years old and love the EKG portion and heart monitor. I used to use a Fitbit to keep track of my 12k steps a day, but lost it. Now I use my iPhone, but keep forgetting to take it with me, but I always have my watch. I am starting to keep my health records on my phone. My wife has a Fitbit Watch that is about half this price, but does less than half as much.
If I owned an AW2 or higher, I would not pay this price. But for a first timer, it seems like it is expensive, but worth it.
So yesterday, I bit the bullet and ordered one. Am surprised to see that they do not expect to ship it to me until mid-October while the watches are supposed to be in the stores on Friday.
