Apple Watch Series 4 Reviews: Larger Screen is 'Incredibly Good', Upgrading From Series 0 or 1 a 'No Brainer'

I was about to order AW4, but found out, that ECG (EKG) works only in USA. No other country have this option in description...

I mean - they did't say a single word about this, so it looks very unprofessional from Apple, to talk about new feature for 12 minutes that is limited to USA and not mention will it come to other countries... So I will not buy it. Even if they said this feature come to Europe in 2018, after AirPower fail I wouldn't believe them...
So to recap... You're upset it was "hidden" that it was only a US feature... then you mention that "even if Apple said it was coming later to other countries" you wouldn't believe them anyway... So you weren't interested in it anyway... Got it. Just needed to complain for the sake of complaining.

I don't understand why the "no brainer" options is for series 0 and 1 only. Series 2 has the same speed as series 1 and I can tell you my series 1 feels slow with watchOS 5. It only has GPS and better water resistance, but the main upgrades in series 3 was speed and cellular, and now you have even better performances and a new design with series 4. I mean you have GPS, but if you bought series 1 you didn't care about it in the first place.
Besides, series 1 was sold alongside series 3 last year so for some people could be still "new" while series 2 was retired from the market an year ago.

I'm just glad I'm getting AW4 Nike+ rather then getting Stainless Steel which is over priced in my humble opinion.

I had the Series 0 in stainless, and while expensive I wouldn't say its over priced. That thing was amazing, the Sapphire glass meant no scratches at all, not a single micro abrasions in the 3 years I owned it. I got the series 3 aluminum and it lasted a week before micro abrasions started to appear. To bad Apple never did that Sapphire glass on the iPhone

And to proof that, you linked me an article at Macrumors? A mean - I like this website, but it's not like I am visiting it every day and read every article. Don't you think it would be nice if Apple mention at conference that ECG is limited to USA only and they work with other countries to provide this feature? After a presentation I was so much like "I go for it". If I didn't check Apple website before purchase, I wouldn't even notice before take it in my hands :/
But like you said, even if Apple mentioned it you wouldn't have believed them.

I really do not understand why people complain about the prices. A sapphire crystal watch, with ceramic back costs you around $700 (thats cheap in the watch world). Apple Watch can do soooo much.. And please don't get me started on re-sell.. Unless you own a Rolex or high end watch, watches depreciated so much they are pretty much worthless at the end.

Battery life continues to be the only thing stopping me from purchasing. If some form of integrated solar and/or kinetic charging solution get's included to increase the time between charges then I'll be in. Though I suspect the engineering and practicality challenges to bring this about are extreme. I live in hope.

But why? I have a Series 0 and it gets me through day; always has. I unplug at 6:30 am, 30-45 minute work out, all day call and text notifications, and music controls all day. Only a few times a week will I get pinged that the battery is below 10% and that's usually not till after 9pm.

Would you be wearing the watch when you sleep? Is that a normal thing to do? I never wore a watch before this so taking off and plugging in every night just became a normal thing to do since I already did that with my phone.

These things still look so clunky.
Nice to see I’m not the only one.

Call me when these things are 7mm thick.
Until then they just look stupid (in my mind of course, and now that there are millions of people wearing wrist devices thicker than their iPhone Xs it’s obvious that most other people don’t care.)

For comparison, iPads have been thinner than 9mm since the iPad 2... back in early 2011. I clearly just don’t get it.

well, yes you are right obviously. i will just apply the screen protector on top of my AW4 and my problems will go away :D

Definitely not worth upgrade from series 3. Maybe in a few years. Needs more features. So far the coming soon ekg that I’ll never use seems to be the thing.

I am upgrading from a series 3. I am 64 years old with an implanted defibrillator and I live alone. The slips, trips and falls detection as well as ECG and atrial fibrillation features are very important to me.

Here we go again. Biased reviews by publications scared to be blacklisted by Apple if they say a negative comment. Let the real world reviews in a few days from actual customers speak instead of these paid venues...

Update: I’m totally biased lol. Verge I guess did write an initial horrible article about the AW3.

Here we go again. A macroumour user not happy with positive reviews (for a product that generally have people more excited then the new iPhones) You see, when reviews are not soo great like with the iPhone Xs they are spot on. But when they are positive, they are biased. Typical bull **** from forum community “experts”

Well the Watch sounds like a good fit for you.
I think many people will buy an Apple Watch for their elderly parents. The walkie talkie app seems like something you can teach an old person to use and provides a simple way to communicate with a device always on his wrist. And if something bad happens you have an immediate feedback, that's great.

Meh I'm old fashioned if I want to wear a watch I want the battery to last at least a month. Until such time a phone shall suffice

The million dollar question. Can you own an Apple Watch without owning an iPhone?

I don't think it will be ever possible, at least not in the near future.
It wouldn't make sense considering how much the Watch depends on the iPhone.
Let's say it could be nice to have the possibility to pair it with an other Apple device like the iPad, so you're still connected to Apple's ecosystem but don't need an iPhone if you prefer a different smartphone.

It should at least last for 3 full days in order to give the user the possibility to use it during a weekend far from home and avoid bringing the charging cable.

Am I not reading this right or is he completely contradicting himself?!

I am still sporting a series 0 so I'm hoping this will feel like a pretty substantial upgrade.
Pretty simple really. He is saying the new case dimensions are not really noticeable between 38mm & 40mm or 42mm & 44mm. But the new screen size is noticeable right away. You get more screen in roughly the same size case as before. Think iPhone X screen vs iPhone 7 screen. Size of the phone is roughly the same but the screen is bigger.

If Apple would manage that, they would become a real watch making company.
I’m still not tempted. The first glance of the watch doesn’t make my heart beat any faster.
But at least Apple gave the “standard” watch industry something to really think about and maybe even worry about. Apple managed to create a wrist device that many-many people want and buy. Now if only they would make a round version and dial configurator that would allow me to design my own dials.
Then I would be interested too.

The Apple watch always makes me think of these Dutch Verkade cookies:
