provided i can keep my band collection i will upgrade from my current Series 0 :) i love my current Apple Watch but the battery life drains pretty fast now a days. I wonder if they will add new materials for the Series 4?

It's about time. I have a series 0 and even if I appreciate the improvements to series 3 (speed in particular, water resistance was already good enough and I don't care about GPS or LTE) I feel that the Apple watch needs some drastic improvement. A larger screen would be nice (but please don't increase physical size and please please please NO round screen).
I think what the apple watch needs is better API to have more elaborate and useful apps, a slightly larger screen to improve the app experience, more sensors (temperature, glucose… ).

I've got a 18 year old tag that I wear every day. I've yet to want to buy a Apple watch with a limited firmware life span, I'm still of the mindset that a watch tells the time, and my phone does the rest and neither need to meet on my wrist to make Apple more money. I just don't find one to be that useful as yet for my personal needs, others mileage may vary of course.
I've always rotated my Apple Watch with my other traditional watches but I found myself using it less and less until I eventually stopped wearing it altogether.

Apple Watch Series 4 models set to be released this fall will feature a new design and a display that's 15 percent larger, according to predictions shared by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a new note that was sent out to investors this morning (via 9to5Mac).

In addition to a new design with larger displays, the new fourth-generation Apple Watch models will feature a longer battery life enabled through more battery capacity and improved health monitoring capabilities. The display size of the watch could increase due to smaller bezels, and it's not quite clear what impact a larger display would have on physical device size.

The Apple Watch's design has remained unchanged since the first-generation Apple Watch was introduced in 2015, so a redesign three years later in 2018 would make sense.

Kuo also does not go into detail about what new health monitoring capabilities the fourth-generation Apple Watch might offer. Rumors have suggested Apple is exploring a sensor that would allow for continuous electrocardiograph monitoring to better detect serious heart conditions.

Apple is also pursuing a method for non-invasively monitoring blood glucose levels, but that technology seems to be a bit away and may not make it into a 2018 Apple Watch update.

Ming-Chi Kuo often shares accurate predictions about Apple's plans, so it's likely we can expect to see some kind of Apple Watch redesign this year. We'll be hearing more about Apple's plans as the watch's likely September release date gets closer.

Soooooo excited about the redesign. Fortunate for me and those who do not buy Hermès or limited edition of the series 3 last year or spending too much $$$ for 3 year old design. Yay!!

The Apple Watch band port is executed perfectly and Apple knows they have a small monopoly with Watch bands.
Only with the die hard Apple fans. The average/smart consumer buys third party bands that are 80% the quality at 1/4 of the price.
$50 for a nylon strap with some Velcro? Give me a break.

Albeit with third-party bands, they do resemble the Apple Watch OEM bands, but they are not nearly the quality that Apple bands are. It’s just a matter of what the consumer wants to spend. You get what you pay for.

Agree. The place where the Apple Watch shines is when you get a text or a call and all you have to do is glance at the watch without having to pull the phone out of your pocket.(unless you want to answer the call on your phone) That is the number one convenience.

Only if you truly believe that nylon strap with Velcro is worth $50. I don’t.

I never inferred anything about a nylon strap, you did. I said you get what you pay for, which is true with any third-party band that does not have the quality that Apples does. What one finds in value for something they want to pay for more, you do receive a better product with Apple, and that’s fact. And this is coming from somewhere that has third-party and OEM. And that applies to leather, stainless steel link bands and/or other OEM bands.

Let's all anxiously await the mega-launch of a watch that lasts 2h more than the previous model... This and the HomePod I find the 2 most disappointing devices Apple has made in the last decade.

At the minimum it should double the battery life, if not triple it, at least in regards to GPS tracking abilities.
Unless the watch can stand on it's own without an iPhone to function properly, it's really not an option.

Sorry but I'm going to have to use your post so I can make a point.

Apple is not going to make a watch to replace your phone. They are not. Ever. Not because they can't. Because I am sure that they can, but because they are not. Why? Almost all of the money that they make comes from selling you a phone. They are never going to give up the opportunity to sell you both a phone and a watch. Never. So don't buy the watch if you want. You'll still make Apple happy, because you will buy that phone.

Second for those who keep saying that Apple needs to make the watch round. Again not happening. Why? Because everyone else's watches are round. Apple spent years studding watches before they made the first Apple watch. Being not round was not a accident. That did not just happen. They picked this shape for a reason. Because it is distinctive. Today, you can go walk around any building space where you have lots of people, and as you walk around you can pick out from a distance everyone who is wearing a Apple Watch. Because it's a shape and a look that no one else has. I do it when I'm watching TV or a video. I do it at the mall. I do it at the hospital. I even do it at Wal-Mart. Apple has no desire to give that up. Sorry.

That leads me to my last point, because they are about the other two. Apple is not going to do what YOU want. They are not. They are going to do what they think is best. And one important consideration of that is, how do we make more money. They do have other thoughts and being Apple, function and form are both parts of that. But this company got it's start by being different. How? By doing what THEY think is right, not what customers think. That was Steve's magic. He could see what you really wanted before you could even see it. Not what you thought you wanted, but what you really did. He did not ask you for input. Because you did not know. That is part of Apple, even now that Steve is not with us. So they are not going to do what you want. They are going to do what they believe is best.

I think Apple has painted themselves into a corner with the Apple Watch. Don't get me wrong, I love mine, but it took water resistance, speed and significant battery improvement to move me off my series 0 to a series 3.

Maybe some series 1 owners will move off for a slightly faster, and better battery-life model, but I have a hard time thinking of what would make me upgrade.

If their strategy is incremental updates, they are going to run out of people on older versions.

The vast majority of customers do not upgrade iPhones, Macs, or other products every product refresh. Most people upgrade when their existing product just runs out of gas.

ugh, please don't make it much bigger. Women don't want a big-azz watch on their wrist like some douchebag with a huge Rolex trying to impress the ladies *eyeroll*

Sexist much? What about women who want a tiny watch to show off their dainty wrists? *eyeroll*

I agree they are not going to provide a round watch, but I think it is for a different reason. The round shape is the most efficient shape for a traditional mechanical watch, because the works move in a circle, and any other shape would result in under-utilized space. For a digital watch, that's not a factor. Thus, the digital watch is optimized for another important thing-- efficient display of information. 1n 2018, a rectangular display is best for that.

The only reason I didn't get a series 3 was because of that hideous red dot. Let's hope Apple change that...

Well I only updated my series 0 to the series 3 in December so I won’t be updating this year.

I wonder how the redesign will be and if you can still use your existing bands with it. I have 15 official Apple bands so I’d want it still to work with existing bands.

If you get the non cellular version it doesn’t have a red dot on the Digital Crown.

Yes. I deleted my post because Apple has a watch charger pad that does both types of bands. It would be nice if they incorporated the options from that charger into the wireless pad that does the iPhone, watch and AirPods case at the same time so I wouldn't have to have a separate watch charger. Currently, I have a Belkin duo stand charger that works but it's sometimes hard to get the iPhone seated on the lightning head because it is designed to tilt for different iPhone sizes so things don't always line up first or fifth try. Just lying down all my stuff and it connecting would be GREAT!
My thinking is because the airpower is only compatible with the series 3 and not older models, it may have a special chip built in designed to be used with the airpower, which could mean it has a slightly longer range which would accomodate the watch being used slightly raised off the pad or on it's side. They must have thought of this considering so many people use the watch as an alarm clock, and this feature is this built in to the software.

Here's hoping anyway, especially with it possibly being £150 it should be able to be used with the watch and any bands.

I really like my series 0, but it is getting a little slow. So I'm looking forward to the update.
Phil Schiller's world revolves around customers just like you. Almost as though he pulls a lever somewhere to make people want an upgrade... Nah, this is Apple and they would never do anything like that.
