I'm really impressed with my Series 5. I love it dearly and can't imagine life without it.
But, I chose the Aluminum version this year (after feeling too guilty to upgrade my lovely stainless steel Series 0 until its battery started to fade) specifically to make it psychologically easier to upgrade...
if new features come that gave me a bad case of the iWants.
From this one sketchy rumor report OP provides, it's too soon to tell. I don't see a lot in this article that triggers yearning and gotta-have-its. Yet.
For one thing, sleep tracking has been handily provided by any of several excellent third-party apps for years now. Apple's built-in sleep tracking would have to be powerful indeed to provide motivation to upgrade. At least for me.
What could move me to upgrade:
- Faster processor that doesn't get indigestion when digesting large file-lists of podcasts etc
- Faster transfers from iPhone apps
- Better support for totally native podcast applications that don't require a phone app
- More storage
- More sensors (pulse oximetry tops my list)
- A cost-effective sapphire screen option for the aluminum-bodied Watches
- Significantly improved battery life... as I'm getting good life already and can wear the Watch all day and all night, charging it in the mornings in an hour or 90 minutes as I shower, dress and get ready for the day.
Oh, and there's another thing Apple could do to move me into the "Yes, thank you, I'll head to the Apple Store right now" column: institute an upgrade program like the iPhone's.

...if you are going to switch off AOD might as well just get the series 4.
If that were the only difference I'd agree.
But, more storage and worldwide emergency notifications for cellular models, even without activation... those swayed me to the S5. And once I had AOD, I was surprised how much I like it. Totally different everyday interaction model: you glance at it and, dang, that thing's a watch, not just an obsidian rectangle on my wrist that needs to be woken-up with a wrist-wiggle or tap.
