Fast charging in the S7 is probably the only feature that I wish my S5 had. 80% charge in 45 minutes means you could probably just charge this when getting ready for the day and never charge otherwise.

It’s strange that we have the weights in grams for series 7 down to one decimal point yet as far as I can find there are no complete details of dimensions. Has anyone found that info online yet? I’m particularly interested in the thicknes. I worry that this 50% thicker front glass will mean that the s7 is thicker than the s6 when for my preferences I really want Apple to be moving in the opposite direction i.e. thinner.
I could be wrong, but from my understanding, the body of the watch is thinner and Apple made the glass thicker to increase durability, so it's about the same thickness overall. Series 3 was 11.4 mm, but 4-6 have all been 10.7 mm, and I really can't see them making the watch as a whole thicker.

This. If I was going to upgrade the watch every year then Aluminium with Apple Care is the way I’d go.
Yes, if your going to change every year then the Aluminum is the way to go. I dont know if Apple Care on a one year purchase would be the best course of action. Im a sucker for the stainless version which is unfortunate for my wallet lol.

At this point an every other generation or even every third generation makes the most sense. I've got a watch SE so it makes no sense to update -- not enough to compel me.

It’s pre-order time this Friday and we still don’t have any ordering information in the Apple Store app. The whole launch of the Series 7 is so weird.
Extra weird in Canada as it also says preorders start on Friday, but no pricing info at all. Meanwhile the series 6 is still on sale for full price? My series 5 is GPS only and I want to upgrade to a watch with cellular. Would consider a Series 6 if it came at a decent discount, but certainly not full price. I guess I will wait for the 7.

As the S6 and S7 have the exact same chip (except the name) and mostly the same internals, it’s safe to say that the drop of software support for these two models will happen at the same time

Same processor does not mean same chip. The S7's main processor may not be faster but it for sure will have additional chips on the SOC that improves pressing of neural, comms, identification etc /

I've had a series 3 for I think getting close to three and a half years now, and basically think this is a product in need of a better battery to bring a better iteration to the software. I won't go a few hours without wearing my watch, and I wear it overnight, as there's metrics on the watch face I check all the time and incredibly handy. But its a device with serious battery/refresh compromises.

Why can't things like viewed notifications, or read messages sync between it and your phone? Some nights, I get a dozen different random phone numbers giving me a text on server down/up times, on my phone I can read, or select all dozen messages and delete. However, repeat the ordeal on my watch, showing a dozen messages unread. Clearing those are a mindless swipe, then delete, then confirm delete taking close to a minute.

Why are non-apple complications limited to the number of times they can refresh? Can that be upped to 288 times a day, or every five minutes instead of limited to four times an hour?

If the battery can last for a day, plus add those two features, that may be worth updating to the next watch. Until then, holding out.

Getting a new watch every year isn't really a thing for me. I was considering upgrading from my S3 this year, and decided that, if so, I'd order the S7. The upgrading issue was settled when an incident smashed the screen. Till then, my $10 Seiko works just fine. :)

Hmm I'm considering upgrading from an S4 but not entirely sure. Besides the bigger screen, the S4 currently does everything I need it to.

Coming from a series 4, I am eager to upgrade. More so than the iPhone (still on a XS and don't see a point to update this year).

My Apple Watch has been a very good useful tool on my way to lose 60 pounds in the last 8 months. I can see the blood oxygen sensor being a useful thing.

So compared to the S6 all it really has is a bigger display and it weighs more. Looks like I'll skip this one. I've always upgraded every year, but the other updates offered new features and faster performance.

Apple ends support based on when the product was last sold new by them. Support for the S6 will likely end 1 year before the S7 regardless that the hardware is the same. We've seen Apple do this with other products like the 2009, 2010, and 2012 Mac Pro, which have the same hardware.

Thanks. I strongly suspect that you are right but I’d still be reassured to see it confirmed in cold hard official Apple specs. When I looked an hour or so ago the official Apple S7 page had a huge long features page but the usual “Technical Specifications” link at the top of the features page wasn’t there.

If I’m honest I’m also hoping against hope that Apple might have managed to reduce case thickness enough to more than compensate for the thicker glass so S7 might even be a tiny bit thinner. I know that’s a real long-shot and seeing the official specs would also serve to disabuse me of that silly notion.

I wish they would update the WiFi. 802.11n in 2021 is ridiculous. A better WiFi chip would conceivably improve range and be faster allowing for the modem to power down faster thus improving battery life.

Also I want all my devices to use the 802.11ax standard to make the most of it, not have an old .n device slowing things down for the rest of the devices on my network.

If Apple and third party developers issue updates in a fairly quick manner that make use of the new screen real estate, that in and of itself could make a big difference to a lot of people. If that doesn't happen, people will end up with a larger screen with apps that can't take advantage of showing more relevant information.

Edited to add: Don't forget that what one person here sees as minor or completely not worth a new purchase, the next person coming from the same watch may see things differently. Think for yourselves and don't be swayed by negative group think.
