There's been no significant reason to upgrade since Series 4, which is precisely why Apple has kept Series 3 around. People would just buy the 4 and it would have cannibalized sales of the 5, 6, and now 7.
I was debating going from 4 to 7 and this comment sealed the deal. Good point. Gonna wait for the 8.

Series 6 - Up to 100 percent charge in just 1.5 hours
Series 7 - Fast charging: Up to 80 percent charge in about 45 minutes (33 percent faster than Series 6)

It really annoys me this isn't a direct comparison so it seems like a much bigger change. The Series 7 is only 33% faster, which means that the Series 6 charges up to 80% in 60 minutes, only a 15 min difference.

They're doing this with the chipset as well. Saying the Series 7 is 20% faster than the Series 5. Not mentioning that the Series 6 is also 20% faster than the Series 5 because they're using the same chip again.

Apple is using a lot of misleading marketing this year to make it seem like the Series 7 has more new features than just a bigger display. Wish they had stronger competition in the smart watch marketplace.

Why on earth would you upgrade from 6? There is literally NOT A SINGLE substantial change.
That depends on your description of substantial. the larger screen area is surly substantial tin my eyes, but I will say that is all. I will wait and see for the 8 because I always get the cellular version and that makes them more money.

Similarly, don't be swayed by overly-excited marketing hype, people trying to justify a purchase, or overly excited group think. I'm rather fond of the good old fashioned pro / con list...
I agree.

Those here who feel a need to ask other members to convince them an upgrade is in order, or one struggles to come up with reasons to make a purchase, take note of the red flags and don't make a purchase until you can make a logical decision that doesn't involve getting acceptance from others here and isn't predicated on marketing or forum hype emotional responses.

I’ll most likely upgrade my 5. And get that dark blue Watch to go with my sierra blue pro 13. Not that I care about such things, but I’ve gotten bored with black or silver every year.

Certainly agree that if you have anything other than the S6, it's probably worth upgrading. Not enough for me to upgrade though as I have Ti S6 and would downgrade for the midnight aluminum case S7.

i apologize if this has already been addressed, but is anything other than desire to sell more series 7 watches that prevents series 5&6 from having a keyboard(at least on the 44mm version)?

Everyone who's replied seems to have a newer watch than me already. I've had a Series 2 since it launched. I for one am looking forward to ordering the S7. :D

I am most looking forward to the bigger screen and the fast charging. The processor from the S6 wasn't enough last year to get me to upgrade, but I'm looking forward to that too coming from the S2. I don't think I'd do it if I had an S3 or newer.

Apple isn't misleading anyone. Apple has published the information. The problem is Apple didn't write the article the way you think it should have been written.

I am guessing the bigger face between the 6 and 7 makes a big deal when it comes to having a full keyboard. Apple may have been able to offer such via software for the series 6 but, it probably would have been cramped and less conducive to being used.

This is the most "S" upgrade Apple has ever put out. Half or more of the new "features" shown in the reveal video are from Watch OS 8 (like the impoved bicycle tracking and new workout types) ... there's a reason for that. 👀

There is absolutely NO REASON to buy this unless you have money to burn (in that case, donate it or use it for something more useful..?) or you don't have a previous Apple Watch. Yes, even with an S3, it's worth it to just wait another year for the next upgrade.

Just because you see no reason doesn't mean there aren't reasons for others to engage. Telling others there is no reason for them to act is rather illogical and presumptive, in my opinion.

but won't this keyboard also be on the new 41mm version? no matter how you slice it — 41 is smaller then 44... unless i missed this and the keyboard will only be available on the 45mm version...

Good point. I forgot about the 41mm offering.
see, that bugs the s—t out of me. i can grab any of those apps perfectly even zoomed out, but a keyboard — nooo, you need s7 for that. complete b.s. imho

Apple does that kind of thing every year with a particular product. I am not saying its right or wrong mind you but, they have to create incentive for people to want to buy the new watch (first timers and veterans alike). Who knows, there may be a lot of people who will make use of the new keyboard ability.

Agreed

A bigger display for many would be a good reason to upgrade.

right, that's what actual innovation is for :)
i agree, they do do this, but this is an example of a bad case — where there is absolutely no hardware issues preventing this from working on older models.
personally i would love to use the keyboard feature, as dictation is awful, but i'm certainly not upgrading from my s6 for this.

USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable

But does it include an AC adapter or is that yet another add on accessory that Apple is now making you buy? I own literally zero USB-C chargers (or USB-C devices of any type) and half a dozen USB-A chargers.

Will it work with my previous non-fast Apple watch charge cables so I can pawn off the useless C-type cable with an old watch?

If you ask me: no, you shouldn’t update from the S6 to the S7.

Not only the SoC is the same, and they will probably lose support at the same time (giving the S7 one year less of “lifespan”) but the next year there will be a much more noticeable upgrade, with new and better SoC, and possibly the new design that Apple delayed at the last moment this year.
That’s my plan. I upgraded my phone this year and will do watch next year.

Will be interested to see how much of a problem glare is. Glare is all around the edges of the screen and might be an issue now that screen goes out to the edges more.
