Yeah I just had this happen again to me today. Really hope the next watch OS fixes this. What annoys me is that both the times I caught the watch doing this, it was warm so something's flowing? Really hope it isn't just cooking the battery.

The fact that my watch and my wife's watch is doing this - I highly doubt it's a hardware problem - it doesn't happen consistently.
My guess is that if it’s warm it means you caught it right after it stopped. Mine have been cool most times (but not always.)

The force is strong with this being annoying ha. The new watch seems to be functioning ok. Hopefully there is a fix soon as this seems to run the same pattern as previous issues. Apple don't talk about it unless people really complain about it and the it will be something like a a small number of apple users have experienced this problem and we have replaced the devices in question but we have also released a software update in the mean time to fix this small issue.....

That and I'm not sure if you're like me but I have Apple Watch cables plugged in all over the place in my house - in places that probably don't support the correct voltage / wattage that the watch wants so that probably doesn't help things either. My wife relegated her MagSafe charger (20w) to the watch and she's happy with it. I notice my Insignia wall plug (with USB A ports) is the place where my watch has had problems charging - it also charges REALLY SLOW there vs the S6.

<shrug>

I might have to get a dedicated 20w USB C charger for it.

Edit: (Found an Anker 20w USB C charger that I was using for something else) - will use that from now on and see if it happens again.

Edit2: Wow that does charge a lot faster than the Insignia USB A wall plug (lol).

No issues with my S7, charging on an old (S4) puck. It doesn't seem likely to be a software issue or it would almost certainly be rather more widespread, but it could be hardware-related, with something like a faulty power management module, or battery.

My S7 just failed to charge for the first time in 9 days of ownership. It was on the fast charger with the Apple 20W brick, as always. This time it just didn't charge. I took it off the charger and put it back on and now it seems to be charging again.

You might have to return it

The S7 cellular of my wife has also this charging issue.
It occurred 2 times. I have tried with different chargers, but the only way to make it charge is to restart it with the 2 buttons.
It looks like a software issue (I think it’s since 8.1) but not sure…

Really! Both times it happened to me I just put it on another charger and it worked for me. Weird. Lol

I am seeing a similar behavior with my Cellular S7. on two separate occasions this has happened, and in both cases rebooting the watch fixed the issue. I’m also assuming this is a software issue, perhaps due to transferring the settings from my S4 vs. setting the watch up as a new watch?

I'm having the problem on my cellular S7 and I set up as a new watch - but it's pretty rare. I've had it since early last week and this has only happened twice. Putting it on a different charger fixed it for me <shrug>.

That's probably the only thing I did not do, was setting it as a new watch. Reset it several times and then restored it to a backup, the problem just escalated to a point where it did not want to charge at all. When I got the new watch, I set that up as a new watch hoping that I don't transfer any new issues to the replacement watch. Have not had the same problem yet. keeping my fingers crossed ha

I’ve had my first and only AW about 10 days now. So I’m using the charging puck that came with the 45mm S7. and a RAVPower 65W wall wart. So far this setup meets all my expectations for battery usage and fast charging. I usually charge the AW7 once per day. Here’s a typical example of using the watch for 24hrs, then charging it this AM — it charged from just under 50% to 100% in roughly 2 hours. Note nothing else was plugged into the RAVPower.

Is it possible that the AW7 just charges better with more than a 20W power brick?

I think so. Im noticing that the S7 charges really slow with anything less. I always thought that the optimized charging option also meant it would not charge at full speed. Maybe that’s just the macs.

Also experiencing charging issues with S7 41mm cellular. Tried many chargers and cables and outlets along with new “fast charging” puck. Took to Genius dude at Apple Store, and he could not diagnose. He recommended I contact support for replacement. Received replacement four days ago, and last night replacement did the same no charging routine. I notice when this happens watch will not awaken after a jiggle into nightstand mode. Also when this happens, sometimes the password screen activates while puck is attached. I gotta think we have a software or firmware issue. Very frustrating, I’ve had 4 Apple watches, Series 4-7, this is the first to not behave well. Boo

It's exactly the same for my wife's watch.
I think it's a software issue. We are going to wait for the next update before calling the support

I have this exact issue with mine. The password screen activating whilst puck is attached.

This definitely seems software related as it always works after reset. Given you’ve now got a new device and the same issue, that says software even more than ever.

Apple support only suggested an unpair and repair - which of course has not solved it. Very annoying as the magsafe was supposed to make it easy to charge but now I don’t know whether I’ll come back to a charged watch or not.

The unpair and repair thing... I have done this so many times, as a new watch and from a backup, that if one more Apple support person asks me to do that I will have to just laugh. I get it support has to follow the procedures, but at some point the CRM software should tell support tech, "customer has done that 10 times already, don't go there."

I'm also experiencing this issue, but only every few days, and it resolves with a restart. As annoying as it is, I'm reasonably confident that this is a software issue from reading others' experiences. I'm planning on waiting out the next 1-2 watchOS updates.

Have had my iWatch 7 now for about 3 weeks and no charging issues using my iWatch3 cable (don’t have a mini USB socket for the latest cable) —- until this morning when the watch would charge for about a minute and stop.

Took the advice here to unpair and re-pair with the phone - presto, charging became active again!

Thanks to all here.

Regards,

BD

Another weird thing just happened with the charging of the new watch, using the usb-c port on my new MacBook Pro ,the watch just shut down. Had to place it on the wall charger and wait about 5 minutes before it turned on again to continue charging. really hope its just software

Have been having issues charging my Apple Watch series 7. Getting the watch replaced on Monday but was wondering if anyone else has that problem. The watch randomly stops charging and does not charge, I have to remove the watch from the charger several times to get it to start charging again, not even then does it continue charging. The watch has been reset several times and charger bricks changed as well, same worth he charging cable.
Happened to me on my Apple Watch Series 7 45mm Stainless Steel with Apple’s 20w recommended charging brick. I have Apple sending me a replacement, at first they wanted me to send my watch in that way they can do diagnostics and test components which is ridiculous. I really hope this is a software issues and it’s not a faulty battery design issue. This has not been a problem for the 2 weeks of using it until today. People need to spread awareness that way Apple does something about it and they don’t just act like this is a one time deal. They acted like it was super uncommon until I started ranting about how their are thousands of people complaining about the same issue online. Spread awareness!! Hopefully a new software will fix all are problems. It would be really annoying if the new watch has the same issue.

This has happened to me about 5 times on the S7 45mm for me. Using various chargers/cables, will stop charging after a few min. Restarting it has been the only fix that I have found. On a few occasions I have removed and put the watch on the charger and it locked the watch up completely with a blank screen requiring a hard restart of the watch. Seems like a software bug.
