Agree with you. See Jeanne2021 a few posts above. Three replacements, three time the same issue. Seems widespread to me. I'm curious if my replacement is fine. Hope I can give you an update tomorrow.

I have the 41mm btw
My replacement seems fine, much better that the original watch. Had a similar problem when connected to the Mac though. It shut down and did not charge, I took it of the Mac USB-C port and placed it ion the brick charger on the wall and it took 5 minutes to turn on and start charging. So far recharging it has been fine but will not use the Macs charging ports until there is more clarity on the issue.

Im going to let the replacement go through. Seems funny that 3 hours ago the tech didn't know about this?
Not saying it’s ideal but few companies do a good job of communication engineering stuff to support staff. Main reason why I hate dealing with support at any company lol

No problems charging my Series 7 with the new stock fast charger.
Same. My launch day S7 charges completely reliably on any combination I put it on, including old pucks and the old 5W iPhone adapter., although old picks and old adapters don’t provide fast charging.

Software fix was too late for me, wound up doing a return right before it was announced and no one knew about it in store. Still were saying that is probably some form of hardware and why not just replace the watch. That and just not believing it’s an actual problem. Hopefully voting with the $ works - endless replacements and making it more my problem on a watch this expensive is ridiculous. Let’s see what Apple Watch 8 brings to the table.

I had issues charging overnight in "nightstand" mode over the past few weeks. First time did a hard reset and it charged. Second time I did an unpair and re-pair and it charged. Happened again Wednesday, called and made an appointment at the local Apple Store. Got it replaced in the store (manager felt sorry for me after getting a run around and authorized a return and replace). Then got home, was setting the replacement and then saw the update. Well it charged fine last night, we shall see.

Did you download the new Apple Watch OS 8.1.1 by chance and still had issues?

After 8.1.1 my wife and I have not had any issues of our watches not charging. We both have cellular models. That said, it only happened a few times to us before and moving it to another charger worked so it wasn’t a big inconvenience for us either way. I honestly thought it was the optimized charging going nuts. <shrug>.

Only been one overnight recharge since I got the new Watch. I know the new AW7 is at 8.1.1 but don’t remember if it came with it or it was updated when I paired it with my iPhone 12. Also the Apple Store exchanged the charging cable I originally had. So we shall see.

Just picked up a brand new SBTi today and I just went through setup. After set up, it prompted for the 8.1.1 update. Prior to this, the watch came with 8.0.1 and did not have any issues charging. Must be a selected batch or model that had this issue.

This is absolutely embarrassing from Apple.

I have a GPS only series 7 with this issues, can’t charge past 77%-81% and they release the fix for the cellular models only.

Disgusting.

Have been having issues charging my Apple Watch series 7. Getting the watch replaced on Monday but was wondering if anyone else has that problem. The watch randomly stops charging and does not charge, I have to remove the watch from the charger several times to get it to start charging again, not even then does it continue charging. The watch has been reset several times and charger bricks changed as well, same worth he charging cable.
Had mine replaced last week problem returned today.

Yeah I just had this happen again to me today. Really hope the next watch OS fixes this. What annoys me is that both the times I caught the watch doing this, it was warm so something's flowing? Really hope it isn't just cooking the battery.

The fact that my watch and my wife's watch is doing this - I highly doubt it's a hardware problem - it doesn't happen consistently.
It cannot do the update as it is not charged to 50% does the update fix the problem?

No need to replace watch download and install latest update, if watch won't charge to 50% force restart 9hold crown and side button until apple appears) charging should start as soon as you reach 50% it will download and install.

By the time I started this tread I already had a replacement incoming, it was necessary for my since my watch could not charge at all and went through a bunch of steps to correct and nothing worked, new one was fine except when I charged it via the Mac usb-c port and then the new update came. still have to see if the watch acts up on the Mac when charging via the Mac ports
