In the latest publication of his "Power On" newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has put his weight behind recent rumors suggesting that thanks to smaller bezels and a flat-edged design, the upcoming Apple Watch will feature larger case sizes.

Why would two things that lead to smaller case sizes lead to larger case sizes?

Surely this sentence should be about larger display sizes...

Wouldn’t be the first time — the 42mm Series 3 didn’t get the Infograph faces, despite having a larger screen than the 40mm Series 4
The 42mm Series 3 screen isn't bigger. Besides that, the Series 4 pushed the screen to the corners of the case, which is the main reason for exclusiv watch faces.

I've had a series 0, 1, 4 and currently have a series 5.
I just want the Apple Watch to work better at the stuff it is already supposed to.

The percentage of times I just say some simple like:
Hey Siri... Start outdoor walk
and and still get
no response
or
"Sorry, I didn't get that"
or
"sorry, I’m having trouble connecting to the network"
or
"sorry, try again in a little bit"
or
"playing Walking on sunshine by Katrina and the Waves"
or
"hmmmm..."
or
"Yes?"

is unbelievably frustrating after all these years.

So far, rumors point towards having no additionnal health capabilities for the new model.

For a health oriented product, this is rather disappointing. It is clearly meant for people that have no Apple Watch at all, or an old model.
This is going to be my first Apple Watch but I’m still going to be a little disappointed if there are no new health features. Hopefully Apple has something up their sleeve 🤞

New watch faces for 1mm extra space? Really? And probably exclusive to the 7 I’d imagine. I hope they won’t pursue that path. Of course, I wish they would open up watch faces entirely. I dislike about 90% of the options available.
I highly doubt any watch face will ONLY be available for a 1mm larger screen size. Given the current 40mm watch can use the same faces as a 44mm……so now a new 45mm face wont work on a 44? That makes ZERO sense. As usual something is always lost in translation with these “rumors”

1mm case plus a bigger screen with less bezels. The new design probably uses a smaller curve in the glass sides as well, so the net gain will probably be more than it looks on paper.

this article is click bait - I bet you the watch faces will be made available unless there is some specific watch 7 feature. Like the cellular watch face.
Like you said , 1mm difference? Possible 1mm physical size increase but usable display size may be increased by a greater amount.
We just have to wait and see.
Imagine if watch faces became free for all, I imagine we’d have some freaking awesome designs made available.

"Larger displays". It's 1mm or 45/44=2.3% larger. As if anyone'd notice...
Physical and USABLE display dimensions may be different. Sorry usable is in caps. Typing on my phone and it just did that for some reason

I’m hoping we see some awesome screen tech and new Covid sensing sensors.

Oh shoot! You are correct! I missed that part haha. I’m Sorry!

Besides cosmetic changes, the Apple Watch Series 7 is expected to include improved performance, battery life, and health tracking capabilities.

Well then I hope it’s a big boost of the battery life 😜 2 day non stop battery life would be excellent.
It’s been 18hrs since S0, maybe Apple will increase to 20-24 range but 2 days advertised is NOT going to happen…
I’ve gotten 2 days out of my S4 for the first 2 years or so…

What’s been rumored this far would be very LAME updates and certainly not inspiring me to upgrade from my S4, really need to see some new health features, and having new sensors with features coming later in the year (just like ECG) would be ok

Am I the only one that isn’t a fan of Apple’s watch faces? I think this is an area where skeuomorphic design would help. I kinda want my watch to look like a watch.

Can’t wait to see one in the flesh…..gonna make my Nike series 5 soooo dated no doubt.

Thanks Apple for making me drool in the near future 😊

I'd really give something for more modular, digital displays, that opt out of being a «watch» and allow using the AW as a small computer on my wrist. I mostly wear analogue watches for time-telling stepping away from pseudo-chronometers and embracing more information, control and complications/widgets would be nice – something like Infograph Modular 2.0.

PS: I think skeuomorphic does not work for this kind of watch. For one thing, real watches are (mostly) round (and strangely enough Apple never imitated a tank watch). For another thing, they are a three dimensional experience, the plexi-dome, the physical bezel and the depth of the watch face itself. Cannot be faked and maybe shouldn't. All the round faces look weird on that rectangular display. (Also, weirdly enough, the AW design tends to overdo it, with flames, water, zooming photos and whatnot. Better typography and a muted design would be welcome at least for the folks who do not want a barbecue on their wrist ;-))

New watch faces for 1mm extra space?
The watch body is 1mm larger, but given the new flat sides thay may be able to reduce the bezel, making the screen significantly bigger.
