I think we are seeing the reality of the era of COVID and working at home. These items were designed out of people's bedrooms this past year. I think it's finally caught up with Apple. Next year, I expect we will see more improvements and probably a more redesigned watch. From design to manufacturing, we're are seeing the lag. Time to get back to the campus. It's like we are a year off as the movie releases. Still happy to see the iPad mini launch.

Few years down the road is likely 3 new releases, my AW4 is still going strong with some battery degradation. When it and new WatchOS is released I’ll decide between a great deal on a 6 or spring for a 7.
Same here on AW4 running with no issues. I suppose the performance isn't as big of a factor in longevity given watchOS aren't given as much demanding software changes as iOS, but still.

I disagree. i think we’re seeing a deliberate two-step design improvement. Major features every even number. Improvements in screen and battery life the others.

A little schadenfreude for the Series 4-6 owners who told us Series 0-3 owners not to complain about exclusive watch faces!

So, this is Apple's new strategy to sell the S7: slightly bigger display and exclusive watch faces...LOL! This is about the most underwhelming update to the Apple Watch to date!
Don’t forget the iPad Pro 2020. That was the worst update ever.

Something seems fishy about the Watch 7 announcement.

Even more evidence of a last minute pivot. The S7 has the same chip as the S6.

Is it just my imagination or do the cities/ timelines on the new World Timer watch face go around in the wrong direction?
I don't think so. Imagine you look on the earth from outer space, straight to the North Pole. Then you turn the terrestrial globe in a way that your primary timezone is on the lower side (at the 6 o'clock position). It will be named with the according city name. All other city names are aligned with the respectively line of longitude at the map, over them with the current hour of their local times. I'm sure there exist real world examples of watches with this very outfit.
But now I see your point. On e.g. a Patek Philippe World Time watch, which has no Earth map on its watch face, the local times are ascending in clockwise order, and thus the according city names go the other way round. I think both implementations are equally reasonable.

Am I missing something here. Aren't all of these things on a Apple Watch Series 6 with watchOS 8 already? Besides the colour options, and lager display and it's watch faces. ECG, Blood Oxygen, Pilates and Tai Chi, Fall detection, Resoratory rate during sleep, car keys and home keys, all-day battery life, cycling updates, mindefulnes and cellular are all on Series 6 running watchOS 8.
Yup, seems like a good upgrade from S3+S4, not so much from S5 or S6

I would have liked to see a face that had more complications. The one with bigger complications is cool but the one I actually use is Infograph and since that complication hasn't changed at all on the new watch I'd see relatively little benefit to upgrading aside from everything being a few pixels larger.

I’m liking the bigger screen but I was hoping for a bump in processor power. Is it the same S6 chip? Not that the S6 is slow.

I’m hoping that news apps will really take a leap forward and let you read entire articles on your watch now.
My Series 4 still feels incredible speed wise. The S6 chip seems to be well suited for years coming

It looks like they might have finally fixed the glass on the sport models so they don’t crack and scratch so easily.

I doubt it’s anymore scratch resistant. Crack/shatter resistant, yes. Density is very different from hardness (if I’m saying that correctly). Until they change the material to sapphire or something like that, it’ll always scratch easier than the more expensive versions.

Recently I found out by accident that tapping at the world map toggles the way the map is centred: either at the North Pole (on northern hemisphere), or at the real geolocation. Funny!
