Feels like a really botched rollout to me. Like either they intentionally don’t want to share any details or this watch is really an odd backup product and they didn’t even finalize the marketing plan and all the marketing material. But at the same time someone from sales is pushing to start collecting orders…
And anytime they say we have to deal with it it’s annoy imho—there are certainly things they can’t help like bottle neck with the supply chain and cargo ships/getting the stuff out but if even Tesla was able to deliver with the chip shortage you have to think where there’s a will.

but this is just basic info/pics. You can’t tell me they’re not sitting on a nice big pile of cash on top of another big pile of cash, that they can’t throw a tiny fraction of a grain towards a new marketing team who would be happy to work OT since that tiny fraction of a grain actually represents $$$$$$ for them.

to give us a website where they plainly list the specs. The colors. And let us decide which one we wanna preorder in 3-4 days?

But what's the fun in that? I've never understood turning off the features that are meant to be on in order to squeeze out more battery life. Why would I want to use my device that way all the time? I wouldn't. Why am I squeezing out extra time from a device that is already not worth using because I turned all the features off?

It is designed to last all day using all of the features. And it does. Turning things off does not make any sense at all.
I mainly/ only use my apple watch for tracking my activity, reading notifications, replying to messages when I'm in a hurry and answering phone calls. I don't need the screen to always be on to do any of those things. I prefer how the apple watch looks when the screen is off and it saves battery. For me it makes perfect sense to have always on display turned off.

Which means a hit on performance having a 20% larger screen. You can’t get brighter aod and larger screen without a hit to the same sized battery as well.

Basic rule is to never buy an Apple Watch in a year apple doesn’t even bother with the chip. Rebranding an s6 chip as s7 doesn’t count.
Sure you can in a more power efficient chip. This is classic Apple chip design.

I hate that the Nike Sport Loop now has Nike branding on it. It is the only way to get a black sport loop so I go for the Nike edition each year. It was fine the way it was!

Seems that Space Gray is no longer an option for the Aluminum cases? Apple doesn't make it clear if the "Five all-new aluminum colors" are the only color options now, or they are in addition to the existing colors.

Apple today announced that pre-orders for the new Apple Watch Series 7 will start on Friday, October 8, with availability on Friday, October 15.

While Apple announced the Series 7 alongside the iPhone 13 last month, the company didn't provide any information on availability besides saying it will be available "later this fall." The new Apple Watch will officially be available for pre-orders at 5 a.m. PDT on Friday, October 8, and will start shipping a week later on Friday, October 15.

The Series 7, compared to the Series 6, features a larger display with slightly more rounded corners, which allows the display to appear to curve on the sides. The new Series 7 also sports improved IP6X certification for dust resistance in addition to WR50 water resistance. The new watch, however, keeps the same CPU as the Series 6.

The Series 7 comes in five aluminum case finishes, including a refined blue case, (PRODUCT)RED, midnight, starlight, and green. Stainless steel options in silver, graphite, and gold stainless steel alongside "Apple Watch Edition" in titanium and black titanium will also be available. The Series 7 starts at $399 and joins the Apple Watch SE and the Apple Watch Series 3 in the lineup.

Anyone know why:
1. Website doesn't offer/have any info on color/material combos
2. App isn't updated to show Watch 7
In the past you could prep/save your preferences to be ready to order.

The colors you see are what will be available.
You will be able to. There is plenty of time for Apple did get the website in order.
No offense but you keep chirping this and preorder starts around now or earlier actually, on Friday, two days from now.

We’re not going around with pitchforks.

Is asking for specs too much a couple of days before they’re set to be ordered too much to ask?

Apparently they’ll get to it when they get to it 😂

Only Apple knows but there's still plenty of time before pre-orders go live so isn't an issue yet and likely never will be an issue.

Preorders are still about 70 hours away which is nearly 3 full days. Plenty of time left.

As long as we get at least 24 hours to look things over, it is fine really and I'd be shocked if that doesn't happen.
You’re assuming a lot of things. Mainly:

1) 24 hrs is enough time.
2) people don’t have anything better to do (right now it’s early in my work day, only reason I’m replying).

Next.

Lol so I’ll have to figure out my watch combo on like Thursday evening it seems like.

I wonder if apple got rushed into releasing the watch due to the Hermes leak….

edit - so an apple rep said no customization tool will be available until Friday. What a joke.

No need to stress out over a watch. If something happens on Apple’s end and it doesn’t get done before Thursday, you can order the watch when all the info is available, even if it means not getting it launch day. Compared to a lot of things in life, this is trivial and shouldn’t even bother people.

The old talking to customer rep thing. It’s safe to say they usually have no clue and will tell you anything (and sound confident about it) to make you go away.

Apple isn’t stupid. It’ll be ready when it is.

I think tomorrow we will get the Studio up and running so we can choose our combos

You’re assuming I’m stressing, I’m just asking for something that is not unreasonable at all.

perhaps if I was yammering it from day one, that’s different. And I’m not even yammering now, just facts.

perhaps you should have more expectation? Not unreasonable but also not just to sit there.

Yep I’m fairly certain they were clueless as well. Hopefully we will see a customization tool by tomorrow.

Educated guess: the stock ready to ship on Oct 15 will be super limited or non-existent. Delivery times will be many weeks or even multiple months for most models from the beginning.
So Apple sees no benefit in offering more details like specs, models, configurator etc. before preorders start. No need to build a hype. There will either way be more people wanting to preorder on the 8th than they can serve over coming weeks no matter what.

The pessimist in me suspects that the lack of pricing info (beyond the base model) is an indication that all of the other models are going to increase in price. Could be that manufacturing costs went up, but they don’t want to raise the base model price, for fear of scaring buyers away altogether, so they’re waiting as long as possible to reveal the price of the other models in order to minimize/postpone the inevitable bad press. Hope I’m wrong.
