How is this and “upgrade”?.
Innovation is dead at Apple.
They should lower the price!

If the resale value for Apple Watch were higher, I might be inclined to upgrade my Series 7 SS.

I’m still rocking the S4 - still have a good 83% battery, runs the latest OS and everything.

I’m looking to upgrade this year, but even for me, the newer sensors make no difference since I won’t personally use them. The thermometer/temp sensor would be the one to look for since it could come in handy.

But I have no issue sticking to the 4 until I see a good redesign or the battery doesn’t hold anymore.
Same here. Mine is at 82% battery. i am upgrading wife’s S3 though. That thing is a PITA to deal with especially around upgrades. I will wait to see (and hope) that next years design has changed enough to upgrade from a 4.

Yes, very minor update and for most people if you can still get a AW7 for $100+ off they should go for that if they are upgrading from a 5 or older (and even the 5 is iffy). Personally I'm going from a AW5 to a AW8 because I didn't like the color choices of the AW7 and my AW5 is scratched and chipped and the battery life is pretty bad now. Glad they brought back Classic Silver to the AW8 Aluminum model.

So it takes body temp and a longer battery life....no blood sugar levels as was rumored earlier.

Nope, series 7 is fine still with me...maybe series 9.
No longer battery life. Exactly the same. If you’re referring to low power mode, that is part of watchOS 9 and works on every AW model 4 and later.

The AW is the perfect every other year device. The 8 may take it to an every 3 year device. I have a 6 and want fast charging and the slightly bigger screen.
For me, so far, every 3 years has worked out fine - had the original AW, upgraded to the series 3 and then the 6 - depending on what the 9 has I may upgrade again, or wait as the 6 does pretty much everything I need

Ha, I came on to this thread just to say the same thing, I'm also still on the series 3 and it does everything I need.

I'm still waiting on Apple convincing me that a later model is something I need, or simply want.

Hasn't happened yet.
Hell yeah

My Series 7 is functionally fine. The only reason I’d consider upgrading is to go back to a stainless steel model. I have a very noticeable scratch on the screen. When I had SS models before, I’ve never had a single scruff, scratch or dent on any of them.
My series 4 SS's face is perfect. I had my SG aluminum replaced just after the 2 year apple care expired (close enough that they let me reinstate AC) so it's only about and its screen has one large fairly deep scratch and several small ones....

I'm still very happy with my series 5. Doesn't feel like it's slowing down at all, unlike the series 2 I had before which was incredibly laggy. The battery is holding up very well, currently at 54% after 15 hours on my wrist today.

None of the models since have added functionality that I feel I'm missing out on, which only goes to show how much of a great product it is when you think about it. They really knocked it out of the park.

I'll only be upgrading if this one breaks or they bring out a particularly stunning redesign (something slightly slimmer might be nice).

Have you turned AOD off on your S5 to get that battery life. Mine won’t make it to bedtime with it activated and have had to disable it for some months now.

Nope my display is always on! I'm showing 49% now after 16 hours use. If I run 10k+ I might need to charge it for 10/15 minutes to see me through the day, that aside I've never had an issue.

Settings wise I don't have any third party apps on there which I think helps the battery quite a lot. I have background app refresh off too. Also I've never set up the ECG and I have all the cardio and heart notifications switched off (I'm prone to health anxiety so over-diagnosis isn't a good thing for me).

Wow. Mine is 2.5 years old but my battery wasn’t performing like yours after a year old. I think I’m on 82% battery health now too. I end the day now with 45% battery left if I disable the AOD, but if it’s on, my watch is shutting down by about 7.30pm. That’s 12 hours use. All my apps are standard on there so have no idea why mines so bad. I’ll look into this deeper I think.

Little interesting that folks still believe a glucose monitor is coming soon, yet the new watch can't even detect temperature accurately. It can only measure deviation from a baseline.
Ahhh. Didn’t know that. So you gotta take your temp normally and input it then it takes that as your baseline and assigns it to the temp it took? Or it just starts with your baseline and you should know your temp at that moment and then it tells you deviations from there?

Yeah that definitely doesn’t seem right. Perhaps mine is doing better than average for some reason, whilst yours is worse than average. My battery health is at 86%.

I’m still rocking my 5 but if I was going to buy a new watch right now the only reason I’d choose the 8 over the 7 is that they offer a neutral aluminum color , silver … I still miss space gray or ss black
I think you would like Midnight. That is what I got and it is black 90% of the time and barely perceptible extremely dark navy in some light. It mostly looks black. I actually would prefer a bit more blue but it is very nice looking compared to space gray.

Blood glucose monitoring is going to happen. There are legit devices going through the certs now. Check out the k’watch, which has me intrigued. I think it’s ‘23 or ‘24 expected.

For me, the s8 is a big meh. The ultra is interesting; i need to see it in person. It looks bulky and those side buttons scream ‘too big’ to me. However, if they release a 49mm s9, I’ll probably jump on that. I love more screen real estate.

Perhaps but apple doesn’t do certs. It does gimmicks and hides behind “for entertainment purposes only”.

But as mentioned if apple ever did this mythical feature in a reliable manner it changes the game. It’s not well maybe I’ll upgrade. But then we may as well say what if apple did 30 day battery life? It’s just as mythical.
