ugh, battery life is still the main plague affecting the Apple Watch. they really need to match Garmin or Coros or really any other fitness watch maker's battery capacity. having to recharge after a workout just to keep the watch working all day is insane.
Tradeoffs not worth making. The watch has so many different capabilities. The solution to the problem is to get the garmin...the Apple watch will never have that type of battery life until a new battery technology is available and then the garmin will have a life of months.

Most of the time we don’t need a device to tell us if we are feeling feverish or not. A qualitative approach doesn’t make sense, in my opinion.
Thats why they advertised ovulation. There is no utility to regular temperature measures.

Will wait for Series 9 before upgrading my Series 6. This year's iteration is not really interesting to be honest. Better than Series 7, but still.

I will already have crash detection with my iPhone 14 Pro.

And it's not clear what the advantages of the temperature sensor are for men. I already have an Oura Ring that tells me if I'm becoming sick.

Too bad because the rumours were impressive! Alcohol detection, blood glucose detection, dehydration, heart attack, temperature (for illnesses), blood pressure...

Chips take more money and time to make recently.
Apple is trying to discourage upgrade to mainstream models and pushing everyone they can towards the pricier options.
Here's why the Watch 8 and the iPhone 14 (non-pro) are so mediocre.

Blood glucose monitoring is going to happen. There are legit devices going through the certs now. Check out the k’watch, which has me intrigued. I think it’s ‘23 or ‘24 expected.

For me, the s8 is a big meh. The ultra is interesting; i need to see it in person. It looks bulky and those side buttons scream ‘too big’ to me. However, if they release a 49mm s9, I’ll probably jump on that. I love more screen real estate.

Lol I still have the Series 3

Still works great and they fixed the storage issue that was problematic for Watch OS updates

Does everything I need it for tbh

Plus I have tiny wrists and the 38 mm size (the smallest now is 41 I think but it shouldn't be a huge difference) is perfect for me
Ha, I came on to this thread just to say the same thing, I'm also still on the series 3 and it does everything I need.

I'm still waiting on Apple convincing me that a later model is something I need, or simply want.

Hasn't happened yet.

I’m still rocking my 5 but if I was going to buy a new watch right now the only reason I’d choose the 8 over the 7 is that they offer a neutral aluminum color , silver … I still miss space gray or ss black

I’m still rocking the S4 - still have a good 83% battery, runs the latest OS and everything.

I’m looking to upgrade this year, but even for me, the newer sensors make no difference since I won’t personally use them. The thermometer/temp sensor would be the one to look for since it could come in handy.

But I have no issue sticking to the 4 until I see a good redesign or the battery doesn’t hold anymore.
Oh nah my S4 getting punted this month.
But they can miss me with all that with the S7 S8
IMA NEED THAT WATCH ULTRA YA FEEL ME?!?

I will say that the always on Display has been massive for me personally due to my line of work. The bigger, brighter screen and more complications have also been great compared to my old 3. The 7 is also the best looking of all the watches and comes in a dark green!

I personally could use the temp sensor on the 8 as I have to register my temp every day for work. It's nothing more than a convenience though. But it would be nice to just have it logged.

The AW is the perfect every other year device. The 8 may take it to an every 3 year device. I have a 6 and want fast charging and the slightly bigger screen.

What I'm really excited about are the new bands that were designed for the Ultra, and that they fit on the large regular AW.

specially if you have the current titanium model - you will even have to downgrade to SS.
(Yes - there is the Ultra but not sure this can work as a "dress" watch given the ruggedness)

Coming from a Series 5, I had a Series 8 stainless steel on order. After I really looked at the new features I decided to go with a refurb Series 7 and I saved myself $250. There just wasn't enough reasons to spend more money than that when I could get virtually the same watch for much less.

Apple watch 7 users are upgrading to the Ultra.
Given my 11 month old s7 with a battery health of 87% is considered “normal” by Apple support, I’m tempted by an ultra and trade this duffer in. It’s been my worst AW yet…
I’d like to see what a 45mm strap looks like in the ultra - so I could swim with an old silicone band but have a loop one for normal wear/walking (the ocean bands look weird to me).
*EDIT* found a link in another MR thread, 45mm bands fit fine from an S7.

Little interesting that folks still believe a glucose monitor is coming soon, yet the new watch can't even detect temperature accurately. It can only measure deviation from a baseline.

Still rocking a series 3 cellular that I preordered years ago. While the features on newer watches are interesting to me, overall the look / feel really hasn’t changed much (fundamentally) over the years.

Since I live in both ecosystems, waiting to see full specs and prices for the pixel watch before I take the plunge on anything new. The next watch for me will either be the pixel, or an ultra whenever there is a sale or refurbished models become available.
