No other company on this earth can match the attention and thoughts Apple has now put into watch - looks as well utility. impressed by "ovulation" and ultra for outdoors
BS. I am genuinely afraid of Tim Cook's direction lately. Reminds me of the John Sculley days. So many SKUs for the watch. Ultra is what the watch 8 should have been. Watch 8 is just a 7. And the SE a cheaper version of the 8, which is a 7!?

Let me introduce you to the Garmin Fenix, or the Coros, or the Suunto, or the Polar! With battery life at 36 hours, they haven't got a chance tapping into the market for ultra runners.

Don't get this gripping of males about AW providing help tracking menstrual cycles ... Oura also provides that too.

Too bad the titanium case has been dropped - I'll keep my "6" for now.

So far, a new AW that is designed for women, who drive cars.
Men don’t drive cars? Interesting.
So Apple are introducing a watch, that has all the features that are new, that exist on a Garmin Fenix. They began marketing it as an Ultra watch, and then suggest it's for running around Boston?
Battery life is still crap too.
The AW8 Ultra may not be for you, but I’m guessing they’ll sell a bunch. But you don’t think that common functions exist across consumer oriented electronic devices.

What I meant, is that the crash detection, is only for motorists, not motorcyclist, or cyclists!

Apple have done, what Microsoft used to do to it, copy technologies that are already in many consumer sports watches, and tries to market the AW Ultra as this amazing new watch. The AW8 didn't even get a battery update, and clearly this Ultra model is never going to be used by anyone seriously keen on anything other 4 to 5 hour efforts. Really looking forward to DC rainmaker showing the world, how long this AW battery will last out on the trails.

So many salty comments here just because there’s a new feature that they don’t need but can help so many people.
So what features are those? Temperature sensor - Can't wait to hear my female friends take on this. Ultra - Wouldn't last 25 miles on the UTMB. Vertical oscillation! Yeah, whatever, been in Garmin watches for 5 years.

More hype by Apple, no real innovation, and lot's of 'reality distortion field'.

Apple today announced the updated Apple Watch Series 8 during its "Far out" event, including the same design as the Series 7, which includes a larger display that curves around the edges but with a new body temperature sensor.

The Series 8 features the same design as the Series 7 and visually looks identical. The Series 8, however, includes an all-new body temperature sensor with a focus on women's health. The new sensor in the Series 8 reads wrist temperature every 5 seconds overnight, sensing shifts from baseline temperature and alerting the user through the Health app. The body temperature sensor enables retrospective ovulation estimates and estimates of cycle deviation.

The new sensor joins the standard heart rate sensor and the ECG to offer users a comprehensive suite of health features, according to Apple. The new Series 8 is car crash detection, which can enable automatically connect you with emergency services, provide location, and notify emergency contacts in the unfortunate event of a severe car crash. To enable this, the Series 8 features a new 3-axis gyroscope and high g-force accelerometer that measures up to 256G, sampling 4x faster (3000 times per second).

The Series 8 includes new major improvements to battery life, with Apple promising the same all-day 18-hour battery life as previous models. To help extend battery life, the Series 4 and later will include a new Low Power Mode that limits some functionality, such as an always-on display and workout detection. With Low Power Mode enabled, users can extend Apple Watch battery life by up to 36 hours.

The Apple Watch Series 8 is available for pre-order today and will be available on Friday, September 16. The Series 8 starts at $399 for GPS and $499 for cellular. It's available in aluminum Midnight, Starlight, Silver, and Product(Red). For the stainless steel, it will come in Silver, Gold, and Graphite.

I really want to finally replace my series 4 but each generation feels like the last iteration before a bigger refresh.

I just want an excuse to buy one.

I think because it includes this temperature sensor, but it's not clear if you can use it for anything else. Men will be paying the same price for hardware that appears will be completely locked out if your Apple Health gender is set to male.

I’m exactly the same, the thing I had was a new watch would have better battery life, but now there’s low power mode, I’m going to see if that makes much difference first.

Oura also provides temp tracking for men but if they claim it’s so accurate, why lock it down to ovulation only?

I think the feature list nearly peaked at the 4. I dont need temperature - thats apparently only useful for women trying to have children which is about 10% of the female population aged 18-40. Battery life for me is still great. Noting beyond ECG has wowed me. The O2 sensor is too finicky.

So when my 4 dies I will upgrade but so far its amazing.
