Lol @ people who skipped the 7 for the flat sides redesign this year that never happened
Totally got me. I skipped waiting on a redesign. Now I don’t see any reason to upgrade this year either. It’s not that I don’t think any of the new features are good, I just don’t see how they fit me, a 44 year old male.

The happiest moment for me in this announcement is that silver has once again returned (although space gray did not). Starlight be damned.

How can I find out if the REM sleep capabilities on the 8 are better than the 7 or is it all Watch OS related?

I thought about getting the Apple Watch Series 8 to replace my Series 4. My Series 4 still works quite well though. My original Apple Watch was so so slow and could not take the newest WatchOS when I got the Series 4. The Series 4 seems to have aged much better.

However, the biggest reason not to is that the Series 8 Stainless Steel is Graphite instead of Space Black. I suppose the display is always on. But You can't see where the edge of my display and case meet because of the Space Black. The Graphite does not look like that. A bit disappointing to see the color change. Looks like the Series 7 Stainless was Space Black.

What is the difference between the Aluminum and Stainless Steel Series 8. The earlier series, just like the iPhone v Pro, there was a reason to get the Stainless Steel. Is there anymore?

Price rises in the UK are getting out of hand. £449 for 45mm, series 7 launched at £399 for 45mm. Obviously collapse of GBP to USD exchange in the last year is the reason, but 12.5% increase is big. Glad I managed to get a series 7 45mm for under £300 on prime day in July and didn’t wait for the series 8.

No space black SS means no deal. Been wearing my space black link bracelet for years, still like new, but can hardly it wear it with graphite, tsk. Series 5 for another year, heyho. Done me a favour really, my S5 is still fine for my usage, none of the features since are deal breakers for me.

Perhaps a new battery, hmm, although it’s at 91% health so barely seems worth it.
I have a Series 4 Space Black SS and considered the Series 8 but there is no Space Black. The only reason to consider was a newer faster watch since mine is a few years old, and the always on bigger display. I think I'll pass. In fact Series 7 has an always on display, so maybe I'll hunt one of those down.

I hope additional temperature capabilities are added in the future or (perhaps to optimistically) just not talked about. I would love to tap into the external temperature sensor to get a read out on how hot it is at my location. Also I do not see any reason why it couldn’t alert me to a fever (perhaps they need additional clearance from the FDA to include)

So if you're male there is absolutely nothing new in the 8?!
Maybe a new round of mocking from the boys: “hey gurly man, you’re wearing a gurly watch, gurly Apple baby man! Go back to your mommy with your gurly wrists, gurly watch baby Apple man!”

👶🍼

(Shouldn’t have to, but you know… the internet. That was an obvious role-playing joke, lol. It’s stupid for anyone to be made fun of, even if the watch seems clearly marketed to women this time, haha)

No space black on s7. Maybe consider s6? Even though it doesn’t have the larger screen :/

A larger screen with space black is what I’m waiting for. Maybe s9.

So far, a new AW that is designed for women, who drive cars.
Women make up more than half the population of the US, and most of the US drives, so are you being snarky about them targeting the majority of their primary market?

To cempensate, the next AW version will include features specifically for men ... erection detection. This will involve Apple's first werable offering ... smart underwear (iRection Undies) with a sensor which will allow the watch to track erections over time and intensity.

A future version may also detect and track leaks.

Temperature sensor that people said wouldn’t work confirmed. Likely many uses for health notifications.
like you don't know how cold you are?
- what sport or use is there a known threshold of temperature that MUST be sensed for an app or user to absolutely know or find useful?
- is there medication that you must be confirmed to a certain body temperature range?

I'd like to know cause I don't believe there is a match for either above.

Not a Watch owner yet, been on the fence for years. It's getting better each time even if it's just a minor improvement for existing users. The Ultra is way too big for my wrists though. £419 in the UK.

FYI if you are thinking of upgrading to the new Apple Watch Series 8, here’s a comprehensive list of when its features were added. I made this myself by reviewing the technical specs for each generation and compared it to the list of features enumerated for the Series 8. It may not be perfect; please correct me if I’m wrong.
