Hopefully it looks like those mockups! Those look fantastic. But because of Apple's supply chain issues, it'll probably look like the 7 with a new chip in it lol.
It’s won’t even be a new chip. The S chips have been practically the same chip for the past few generations.

Well, S4 and S5 are basically the same, and S6 and S7 are basically the same. However, S6/S7 are an incremental improvement over S4/S5.

Anyhow, after S6 came out, I picked up a couple of the S5 SS models for half price for the wife and me. Great deal, and both the unprotected SS case and sapphire crystal have held up well. Since S5 I haven't seen any need to upgrade, and probably won't see any need to upgrade to S8 either. We already have the AoD feature, and it looks good.

S8 on TSMC N5P with more screen space looks nice, but I suspect if our Watches don't break before then and the batteries remain OK, we'll be on these until S10 or so.

Are people in the US the only ones who can think in two units? I wouldn't think that fractions or decimals would be so difficult for the rest of the world.

Until I met an American who found it very difficult to convert centimeters to meters.

Most Americans cannot think in 2 units. When you talk kilometers, liters, Celsius or even "military" time they get completely confused.

When I and others asked Apple for a new device with an iPhone 4 or 5-sized screen, we didn’t mean for our wrists.

I’m using my iPad Pro on my wrist and I don’t see where is the issue with a bigger display, Apple stop making people buying a 5% bigger display each year, go with the right size directly!

Apple needs to find a way to easily (from a manufacturing standpoint) offer more than just the one shape/style…. Round and rectangle would be nice and open up a whole new word of clock faces For them to offer to their watch buyers. As it stands right now they’re limited. You don’t have to be a health/fintness nut to be interested in some of the things they are able to measure and capture with these things… but when it comes down to it, it’s more of a fashion type of garment… and thats where it will be justified from a price standpoint… until Apple offers more of a choice in this… its not going to grow its user base… and may even lose to the others who are capturing/measuring the same things, but have a more appealing design… its all about the fashion… not the heart rate tool. Thats why there is so much band/case offerings… to try and change the appearances.

I don’t own one for that very reason - i dont like square watches.

No. Anyone can learn this. It’s not difficult. But there’s just no point in doing it. Especially when you have a whole system of units that work together like with SI system.

I’d be ok with Apple bring their flat-edge design language to Watch. Also down with this rumored “rugged” concept.
Basically, I’m interested to see how they evolve this platform. Let’s go!

If you need to use 3 decimal places, then inches are probably not the right unit of length to be using.
Further more:
1. Decimal point used together with Imperial.
2. Base 10 numbering system to try to make some sense of Imperial "system".
3. "Imperial" and Mars orbiter fiasco.
4. Decimal is no better than Imperial... wait, it is!
5. :)

I am happy with the design, size and battery life of the current model. Would like to be able to see ambient temperature and it being thinner though.

Not sure if you realize that many people measure in mm to 3 decimal places.
Not when they're measuring everyday household items they don't unless they're just being silly - you can't reasonably hold your fingers 0.001 mm apart, and don't try to convince me otherwise (you can't do it for 0.001 inches, either). Engineers and machinists in the US traditionally did a lot of things to thousandths of an inch. But, for "how big is this watch face" (where you're contemplating wearing one, not spec'ing parts for manufacture), both are way overdoing it on accuracy. And for meaningful "roughly how big is this" measurements of small items, millimeters are way easier to work with than inches with lots of decimal places.

It's not the size it's what you do with it that counts. 😋

Wow 5%, i wonder if this rumored widescreen will fit on human hand.
Anyway larger display means more comfy reading of clickbait articles.

I’m skeptical that Apple would increase screen sizes 2 years in a row.
Yeah I don’t get it either. It’s like they have nothing else new to offer/innovate, but they need to release a new model every year.

Remember this is the same Apple who keeps selling Series 3 to consumers today, knowing that they won’t be updated ever again.

same here … but round !

I would love a round Apple Watch; along with the ability to create faces.

Such devices exist, not from Apple, but they do exist. And it is sad, that I cannot use the HR monitor of my watch just because Apple doesn‘t want me to.

Depending on the location, Apple may not have gotten it certified as a medical device and thus can't include those features. Not Apple's fault.

Then they need to use the same technology as Garmin.
How else can Garmin get 5 to 7 days with their AMOLED displays yet Apple can only get 2 days.

Or maybe the ’problem’ is watchOS.

Per Garmin:

Get up to 16 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and 42 hours in GPS mode.

I suspect if Apple allowed disabling of all functions except timekeeping teh watch would last a lot longer.

'OH, THE KNOB IS BIGGER, IT'S GOT TO BE BETTER!'

Let me guess - most of yur customers were guys...

You want to see real confusion - watch a non-American try to use an American cookbook.

Considering that Apple is first and foremost a platform company, it's difficult to imagine that they'd change the screen size right after they did so the year before, but stranger things have happened 🤷‍♂️

Series 5
40 mm (759 mm2) - 326 ppi 394x324 - 1.57"
44 mm (977 mm2) - 326 ppi 448x368 - 1.78"

Series 7
41 mm (904 mm2) - 326 ppi 430x352 - 1.69"
45 mm (1143 mm2) - 326 ppi 484x396 - 1.9"

Series 8
?? mm (??? mm2) - 326 ppi ???x??? - 1.??"
?? mm (12?? mm2) - 326 ppi ~506x414 - 1.99"

(506x414)/(484x396) = 1.09 or 9% bigger for largest Series 8 screen
Also, for the Series 5 44 mm vs 40 mm:

1.78 / 1.533 = 16% change in diagonal.

(448x368) / (394x324) = 1.29 or 29% increase in area.
Similarly, 977 / 759 = 1.29 or 29% increase in area.

For Series 7 45 mm vs 41 mm:

1.901 / 1.691 = 1.12 or 12% change in diagonal.

(484x396) / (430x352) = 1.266 or 26.6% increase in area.
Similarly, 1143 / 904 = 1.264 or 26.4% increase in area. (Rounding error)

This makes perfect sense for a near square rectangle, as area change varies closer to the square of the diagonal change.

So, for Series 8 ?? mm vs Series 7 45 mm:

1.99 / 1.901 = 1.047 = <5% change in diagonal.

(~506x414) / (484/396) = 1.093 = ~9-10% increase in screen area.

I am so bored with my Apple Watch these days that I wear it - at most - once per month. Seems like everyone is wearing the same watch — how incredibly boring that is. And for someone who sees no value in the exercise rings any longer they really annoy me when I do. Why can't we just switch the rings completely off — everywhere?

So, for me, a redesigned Watch would have to be a radical departure from the current design. That will probably not happen.
I hear you but couldn’t you just select a watch face without the rings or enable a different complication on the watch face you currently use? There is a bunch of different ones built in!
