These things are just sensationalist now.

They're getting ridiculous. It all comes down to them getting millions of YouTube views (i.e bendgate) and it just gives Apple haters 'reasons' to hate just because the damn thing couldn't hold up to a cheese grater.

Drop tests are perhaps more understandable real-world tests, but this is just stupid.

there's a sad face in the shattered glass. the watch was too happy about this.

Even that seems somewhat pointless. I feel like we need some extended water tests. What about once it's underwater for like 10 hours? Or dipped in water every day for a month straight. Obviously I'm aware we'll have to wait for a while on that one, but that's the real water resistance I care about. Can this be worn in the shower, in the pool, etc.

I'd say no if you care about Apple replacing it if it stops working, otherwise, do whatever you want...

If the watch has corrosion inside, which could happen with repeated bouts of quite stagnant alkaline (soap) or acidic (chlorine) water, Apple will likely know. There's a bit of a difference between something from a one or two time event, and the amount of damage done with constant exposure to high humidity or water.

Even if the watch survives 100 showers, it will undoubtedly reduce its useful life and I'd be really pissed off if I found out a watch that's been sold has water damage inside too!! Maybe people will have to take a photo of the inside of their own watch before they can sell them because of that!

Good advice! Thanks!

The question is how much will it reduce its life ? It's the same with PC component. Having a PC tower run very how undoubtedly reduces the components life. But who cares ? Most of my PC components met their end of life because of obsolescence, not because of failure. And that includes hard drives.
So, if due to constant exposure to humidity, the Apple Watch goes from living 5 years instead of 30, is this really a problem ? It's going to be replaced in 3 years or so anyway...

That video was a waste of time, and a waste of an Apple Watch.

I mean really, who takes off their watch and leaves it on the counter when they're cooking food anyway? And then leaves it in the water for 10 minutes.

I know they need to 'test' the new devices but it makes me sad when some of us can't even afford the base model :(

People are over reacting at this because they haven't received their watch yet.

As deplorable as some may think this video is, the fact remains that, while completely unscientific it's still useful to many to see how durable the watch actually is.

she shoulda scratched it with that wedding ring

Did she do the same test with her wedding ring?
of course not cause no one would pay her a dime!
she clearly seem to have absolutely no idea about product testing and just make up whatever she fancies "is it coming from watch or the grater...?". its just a stupid cringeworthy video from an equally stupid website screaming for attention and the click revenues :D

Will it survive the InSinkerator? I can't count the number of watches I've lost in the InSinkerator. If the Apple Watch can survive it, I'm in. Otherwise, it's a POS, and Apple is doomed.

I can tell you I'm not happy

That they just charged my debit card for a watch I won't receive for three weeks. What if I wanted to cancel???? I'm livid.

That typically means its going to be shipped soon, not 3 weeks. I would venture to say you'll have it in a weeks time or so. No reason to be livid, you did order it after all.

I actually enjoyed it and it makes me laugh even more at those people who ordered a screen protector i mean... Have u seen what it can actually endure?

Never been a fan of these "torture test" videos regardless of who makes them. I'm not even looking at it purely from a financial standpoint, but rather just thinking how wasteful & pointless it is to waste perfectly good technology for the sake of views. I mean, come on....does anybody need to know that they shouldn't abuse their devices?

The soundtrack... The voice... I have it currently open in another tab whilst I write this and if someone walked in I'm sure I'd get a few strange looks.

It's somewhat interesting to know how much a device can take. Hell, Apple could save the world some trouble and just release their own testing footage so we know already.
