Apart from the Boiling water, and drop on the floor, which I thought were worthwhile in that they actually told you something.

The rest was silly.

What I feel the should of done regards the staining would have been to leave it in some strong curry cause for say 10 mins, and ten some beetroot juice for 10 mins.

If both of those washed off without any staining. BOTH known for staining really badly, then would of been an excellent test.

As non-scientific this test was the watch did seem to hold up to some pretty serious abuse.

I definitely won't give a second thought to running in the rain or worrying about damage from sweat.

I would be interested to see some long-term results from immersion.

I am a bit bummed out that I haven't even received my watch yet and people like this are getting them and destroying them on purpose. I mean really... A frying pan...

You got a high temperature warning after placing it in boiling water? I never would of expected that!

I agree, but that aspect was a good test.

In that is has educated us and told us that the Watch can withstand boiling water and still work, after cooling down, and not simply break.

So that aspect of what she did, albeit, unrealistic (you won't shower or bath in boiling water) was a worthwhile experiment for us to view.

And people, please remember, Apple were smashing, bashing and abusing watches to destruction months ago, so really what she is doing does not matter.

At least we can view it (unlike Apples secret testing) so whilst some may see it as a waste, there are some small aspects of these tests, which hopefully tell us a little bit about the products durability.

I mean if the while strap HAD stained in the food test, or the watch HAD stopped working forever after boiling water, then it would not be as good as we think it is now.

So, whatever you think, her test, albeit silly in places, has shown us a few worthwhile things, mostly positive about the product I would say.

What is the point in this watch as you still need an iPhone in your pocket and who wants an iPhone in a pocket when running.

I will admit, I will be VASTLY more interested in the product later down the line when it's a fully independent advice, and even someone who does not own a iPhone, or perhaps ANY phone can use it fully.

Perhaps just WiFi linking it to the Mac/PC at the end of the day to download data to the long term health database about you.....

Or up to cloud storage data.

That's when I feel these devices will have grown up into REAL Products.
I hope that's Apple's long term plan.

I've had a phone in my pocket while running for the past 15 years. I run an average of 6 to 10 kilometers 3 times per week. The last thing I want to do is have some sort of emergency miles away from home and not have a way to contact someone.

Also once the watch calibrates to your pace you don't really need the phone on a run.

And in regards to health and fitness. The sensors on the back of the watch are capable of way more than just checking your pulse.

And as infuriating as it may be for some people. I have no problems getting the next versions as they become available.

Its going to be very interesting how the wearable fitness/communication device technology changes due to apple's entry. Look what they did for the smart phone.

My wife has been performing the same "tests" on her iPhone 5 for two years. I just hid the skillet.

Makes me want to puke

I just bought a Casio Solar for $40 that will not need charging for 30 years. What waste of money!

A beautiful, amazing piece of technology destroyed for the sake of a YouTube gag. Kind of sad.

Yep, especially when there are still people waiting to get their device. I understand putting the device through durability tests but this torture stuff just to get YouTube clicks is disgusting.

but yet someone with mild use (took some xanax and fell sleep on the couch most of the day after getting it) I have a hairline scratch on the screen. My wife confirmed I wasn't smashing it with cheese graders or hammering it with a frying pan, I was as I assumed peacefully sleeping. So somewhere someone i brushed something just right between getting it and my nap that was enough to scratch it.

Im not some anal dude that will call apple and demand a new watch cause that is just silly, but kinda worrisome that I didn't even notice what I brushed it on.

As with the iPhone 6 bendgate youtube videos, this proves once again that people in the United States are not focused on the right priorities. We have people in this world who would love to own an Apple Watch but will never be able to afford one while in America, we destroy them for pure entertainment or to get just a few more subs on our youtube channels. We don't even give any consideration for the people who spent many hours working their asses off to have these things manufactured and delivered on time so we can destroy them for fun.

I find supermarkets throwing food away in the bins, when there are starving people they could give it to instead, vastly more disgusting.

Out of interest.

Do you think that "I" should be able to tell "you" what you can and cannot do with the watch you have just bought with your own money?

Do you think I should voice my opinion on what you decide to do with anything you own?

Why pay $50 on a bottle of wine?
Why not buy a nice bottle, perfectly good for $10 and give the other $40 to a homeless person, or buy them, or a few of them some take-out food for the evening?

Probably feed 6 homeless people for an evening with that $40.

Rather than selfishly wasting it on some more expensive wine you don't need.

10 minutes underwater? Ahahah! I went swimming in the ocean with designer watches(obviously not leather watches) and they worked just fine.

And guess what? Battery lasts a year or more! Hear that apple? A YEAR. It's a watch!

Did anyone else feel like the part where she was adding ketchup, mustard, etc. was kind of like some weird erotic fetish? haha

Yeah, I'm not a creep, but the video is oddly arousing. Maybe it's the "XXX" sounding music coupled with her voice, and the direction. Seems like it's something they did on purpose.

That video was a waste of time, and a waste of an Apple Watch.

I mean really, who takes off their watch and leaves it on the counter when they're cooking food anyway? And then leaves it in the water for 10 minutes.

As dumb as the tests are are, you have to remember these products are sold to people. There is no limit to how dumb people can be and the situations that can arise. I remember reading things about iPhones/iPads that have been left in pockets and gone through the washing machine, fallen into toilets, you name it, and people posting to ask if they will be covered by Apple warranty!

In principle I agree. However, there are legal reasons supermarkets must destroy the food, rather than give it away. It just takes 1 person to get sick from out of date food, and the supermarket will be financially ruined by the law suit.

People are using their watches for torture tests when others are having trouble getting one at all. How inconsiderate.

boiling actually makes me optimistic. I have a hot tub, and I wasn't even considering daring to wear it in there, but if it can be boiled, I can't imagine a hot tub would do much damage... hmmm...

All these "waterproof" implications are a disservice to the community. All they show is that the watch will tend to be fully functional after a period of time under water. However, even if electronics survive the initial plunge, it doesn't mean the water intrusion won't continue to work against the guts of the watch if any got inside. Apple has stated explicitly that this thing is NOT waterproof and recommended against even some scenarios where water resistance (not proofing) should be avoided or minimized.

Every one of these "it's waterproof"-type suggestions should have an asterisk with the fine print saying "check back in a few days, a week or two and a month because implied results may not be representative of actual results with a little passage of time".

A flooded house can have the internal visible parts cleaned up to look as good as new. But the water intrusion is probably also working behind the walls, growing mold over a period of time.

Irradiated humans can seem fine right after exposure. It's only some time later that their hair starts falling out and the other effects of radiation poisoning show.

Water intrusion in electronics is not always immediately & obviously damaging. But mix that intrusion with a little passage of time and see what you get.

Apple has said "NOT waterproof". 50 posts of "I sent mine down to the Titanic and it's still working" doesn't make it reliably waterproof. All that each of these scenarios implies is short-term luck... like the guy who claims his flooded house is "back to new" after the flood or the radiated people "are fine" immediately after the event. Check back again some time later and see if that luck persists or if the reality of chemistry and physics have set in.
