If it's the same material as the iPhone 6, it will scratch up under normal use pretty quickly. Screen protector would be a must.

I wish people realized that Watergate was the name of the hotel that the robbery took place in under Nixon's watch, and an event that had nothing to do with water at all.

Maybe then we'd gate less -gate this and -gate that stuff.

Edit: Yeah Yeah I get it, Watergate is synonymous with scandal.
I wish people realized that "drinking the Kool-aid" references a tragic event during which no actual Kool-Aid was drunk.

This is by design.

Apple Watch Sport: Impact resistant
Apple Watch: Scratch resistant

Each has tradeoffs, choose whether you're more likely to scratch it or bang it.

Cap kid calls this "steel wool" in his video - any idiot can see IT IS NOT, that is a plastic based abrasive pad. What a pleb. Look at how the strands are formed - THAT IS NOT STEEL WOOL.

Doh >_<

you are a pleb with your sport iwacht lol

Why are there negative comments about this video and people saying "sandpapergate?" Do you guys realize this is exactly the same way as every phone and gorilla glass screen responds to scratch tests? Sandpaper has SAND on it, which is ROCK, which is HARDER THAN GLASS. Sand scratches glass, on Apple Watches, iPhones, Android Phones, and everything. Surprise?

Um, I've bashed my watch against concrete walls/pillars by mistake when I've brushed against them in garages etc. So yeah, actually it can be a common scenario.

I'm glad I ordered the SS model.

I actually ran my stainless steel watch with a sapphire glass across a brick wall once. Not on purpose. I tripped and twisted my hand wrong in my fall and basically slid it across the entire surface on the way down. I've also dropped mine from many feet and its never shown any wear. I love it.

This is the exact reason why I immediately said no to the sport watch.

I'm not putting no screen protector on a watch that's ridiculous. Will hold them to a high standard and if it fails they will replace it. I'm sure as time passes they will make improvements as they come across issues. Which would explain why they aren't manufacturing in bulk just to leave laying around.

Gate-gate! The scandal that exposed that none of us knows what we are talking about when we affix the suffix -gate. ;)

Not true.
The Watergate hotel is located on the shore of the Potomac River.
There was plenty of water there at the time (it is NOT as if they have the drought like they do now in California!!)

The same douchebag that tried to make bank riding the "bendgate" wave?

Well this is comforting.

I wonder if he tried to bend it and only was able to bend the straps (which is okay since the straps were designed to bend).

Also looks like we won't have a hair-gate the way people were claiming the iPhone pulled on their facial hair. This is surprising since watches in general may impact arm hair.

On this website it's more like: how dare him, expose a design weakness of a APPLE device!!!

What exactly is the weakness of the design?

Do other $400 watches not scratch after being rubbed with sandpaper? What is this being compared to?

No idea why Apple doesn't use sapphire on all watches. Kinda lame to me. Another reason this watch is a fail for me. Maybe they shouldn't buy sapphire plants going forward?

I have no idea, why are you asking me? I was quoting someone totally different, go and ask them instead eh?

Or you can always get a bunch of other $400 watches yourself and scratch them with sandpaper to compare?

Yeah, I face-palmed #

What an idiot. If you are his age, and don't know the difference, you belong on the Internet.

This is just gorilla glass. Treat it as you would your iPhone screen. Which means insurance or screen protectors.

Because it's lighter (ideal for the Sport) and less expensive (ideal for the Sport.)

Also "fail" is a verb. The word you're looking for is "failure" and even that is pushing it. The Sport is a failure because you can't scratch it with sandpaper? And why shouldn't they buy sapphire plants, exactly? That would have made it cheaper and, who knows, made it more readily available, so maybe it could have gone into the sport (making it somewhat heavier in the process, though.) GT Advance's screening of the pooch was their own fault.

But grasp at whatever allows you to diss on an Apple product for being an Apple product. There are probably about as many anti-fanboys as there are fanboys on this site. (Yeah yeah yeah, "I've bought Apple since the Apple II was out! Steve Jobs NEVER something something!")
